you absolutely can charge both the starting battery and house battery at the same time in parallel. the issue you described is only relevant if batteries are in series
Big up and respects to you for learning everything about your van. I myself did a lot of work on my Pontiac Sunfire by going to different junk yards and fixing things in Canada. Its always fun to learn about cars when you are a car guy. Now I drive a 2015 Cadillac ATS in Toronto and don't have to worry about breakdowns! lol.
Thanks! I really only use 4wd to get out of nasty situations. Otherwise I don’t use it. The 4wd if these vans is not really made to use for long distances.. but it has helped me many times getting out of places where I otherwise would’ve been stuck..
@@HuubVlogs right because its part time 4wd. with 4wd on steering is heavy and if on tarmac with 4wd on you will break something. for permanent 4wd this is not the case because there is a differential between the 2 axles. then with the difflock on it becomes like part time 4wd and you can still break something
Love and great respect from USA. Good job on the mechanical retrofit. If I could find one and make it reasonably dependable, I would love one. To pull up to a Home Depot in the USA in one of these?? That would be fun . . . and hilarious! 🤣
thanks. there's a newer video where everything is being refitted to toyota hahaha. literally everything. mine will be sol in the USA, but I need another 3 years to get there from argentina where it is now, after travel opens up again :)

Hi, I'm planning to buy a uaz, and convert it to a camper, i live in Armenia where parts are cheap and easy to find. I just want to ask what kind of mechanical problems did you have?
I have wanted an UAZ 452 for quite some time but was disappointed that it seems it doesn't have an emission certificate so it can't be imported to countries where that is needed.
Excellent video - lots of car information. I like the carbon monoxide alarm - since you sometimes cook inside the cabin - and you have the rear compartment heater. In a previous video you mentioned you had a car alarm - is it an external siren or does it notify your cell phone?
How does it drive, compared to say a Land Rover Defender, or Ford Transit? I currently have a Suzuki Jimny, which is a fairly hardcore 4x4 (body on frame, solid axles etc). Previously have had a Defender 90 and a Shogun, however have all been coil sprung & handled quite well all things considered. I am looking at one of these, or a Mitsubishi Delica, next as I would love an offroader to do some overlanding, but with some indoor space as where I tour at home (NW Scotland) is wet & miserable 90% of the time. I have friends in Bulgaria who could help me source one, they seem to go there for €2-5k which is a bargain, they often seem to swap them with Volvo engines there.
@@HuubVlogs I actually have a lead on someone who supplies parts for 469s to the UK, haven't enquired but I imagine he may be able to supply 452 parts. I've never seen a 452 personally here, have seen a 469 or two, and a couple of old ZILs.
Great videos. With all the issues and mechanical failures you've had with the UAZ, would you buy one again or another type of van/vehicle for another trip? If another, any preference?
Haha, I think the van to buy in this century will be the Mercedes sprinter 4x4. But, for off road driving a smaller version is often better, like a VW T4 or an uaz. I don’t know where the future goes. I love my van but I have spent half of my travel time and half of my travel money on fixing it so it wasn’t really an economical choice. If I knew all before, I’m not sure if I would’ve bought one. Right now I know all parts from the inside out which makes driving this van a little easier.
@@HuubVlogsIndeed. Its always a choice between purchase cost and then expected running/maintenance costs. But what price can be placed on the valuable experience and knowledge gained, this is invaluable and something you now take for free everywhere with you. Safe travels.
1 liter 10 kilometer. Yes that's great. I like to have a mercedes gearbox, but I'll keep this as long as it still works... I also have a spare one in the back as it's a small light gearbox

Hello. I'm from Mozambique, Africa. i wish to restore UAZ. What other common Mercedes engine that i can swap & beside Mercedes, what other engines can i use without extra engine adapter?
Do you have any problems at country borders? how will a van go to europe with such changes in a car? you're like from the Netherlands, and you will cross the border by car with registration numbers of another country? how is that possible? p.s I apologize for the mistakes, I am Ukrainian, I hope at least the meaning of what is written is clear, I understand English better than I speak or write in it
As long as car is registered on your name it’s no problem to cross border. Or if you have legal document it’s no problem. I don’t know about import and driving in Europe as I haven’t done it yet. Import rules vary per country
Bad decision with the motor. despite what you think any mechanic in the world repair a uaz engine cause its fucking simple. you dont need original parts just any parts and it will work
my right ear is now very, very, informed about this van.
After all the problems you went through with this van, you did an amazing build. I love your journey with this old piece of metal ;)
