I simply love how the most gruesome games have some of the most cute and wholesome fanworks created by their communities
It's such a weird phenomenon too. Something cute & silly usually has a screwed up fandom. Something screwed up usually has a cute & silly fandom. There's big study potential in this.

Is because most fandoms want what their story is missing. If it is very wholesome and cute, the fandom would want more seriousness and cruelty. If it is very dark and horrible, the fandom would want more happiness and comedy.

they need the balance to truly thrive! same reason why the mostheartwarming works have fandoms do the absolute horros to its characters
they simply do something new! and happines is defenetly something new to funger lol
@@louzo5175 Yeah, I mean it's often the case that a fandom would want to create works exploring the elements absent from the story - hence the many "what if"/timeline shift AUs or headcannons exploring the backstories of the cast. It follows suit that for very depressing stories these works might often take on an optimistic and joyful approach - one that is likewise mirrored for happy stories.
Also yeah while funger (especially Termina imo) does have some hopeful and happy moments I think the sheer pervasiveness of the dour and hopeless atmosphere makes for a game that is largely depressing. It's also just a work of media one might not first expect to have such a happy go lucky community haha

Fear And Hunger: contains depictions of child abuse, sexual abuse, gore, body horror, just so much horror in general, the idea of suffering as a cycle that never ends

My favorite part of this is when Cahara is pretty clearly starting to crack under the strain of trying to support the party, D'Arce steps in and lights a pipe for him to smoke and chill out.
1:15 D‘arce and the kid sharing the bed gets me a lot more emotional than it should be
If the griffith looking mf was with her, the child wouldve been her step daughter

@@ironwraith852 it’s probably a culmination of a lot of videos like that. A few bigger names have mentioned the game as well, such as Ludwig who streamed it, and Pyrocynical who has mentioned an in-the-works video essay for it. Pyro’s video essays are a huge deal nowadays. There’s also Termina, which was more recently released. I think there’s a huge list of factors.
But personally I just got into the series from a guy on discord lol

Not in the wacky, boisterous way he's been doing so far, but just a nice, wordless offer of company so Rag doesn't have to be alone, since sometimes that's all a guy really needs.

Watching rag save the girl and bring her to the party made me tear up a little. The first character i played the game with was rag and my first party member was the girl, i vowed to myself to take her out of the damn dungeon at any means necessary. She made it out with one arm, healing and fire magic, and a hell of a story. I don't care what anyone says that ending is canon in my heart.

i will forever love the "comical group" trope no matter what story. i always like to imagine the characters are friends and having fun. even if the ending and the story tears them apart.
I love how wonderful animatics like this convince me that despairing horror games like fear and hunger would be great dark satirical sitcoms
Like we got the dark humor but also as we saw with the ending, the drama that could actually make it work more

I think Seussical and Fear & Hunger is literally the biggest contrast of media that i have ever seen, and I love it.
can I just say I LOVE how you give each character such unique body shapes, especially Ragnavaldr, he looks like he gives amazing hugs
and the little bit at the end with him is incredibly sad, it makes me think he's hallucinating as the dungeons take his sanity

I think it's was the miasma event or whatever it's called where he killed all the party members but is actively hallucinating their presence in the most wholesome way possible?
miasma is just the sword yelling at him in a bunch of different voices and telling him it'll stop yelling if he kills everyone (in the party), i don't think it'd have to do with his backstory and the people of that village

well, the armored guard is an encounter that you rarely defeat without some losses, even when you are well prepared.
unless blood golem and spores. it took me 2 months but i did it, i win a kill everything that moves run without controllable characters except ghouls and skelies, in terror and starvation mode.

The Funger fandom is small, yet consistently makes some of the best and cheeriest fan content haha. I think it's hard to enjoy something so dark and disturbing without adding a bit of humour, and Cahara is already a pretty loveable rogue

I love this! This has the perfect field between dark and comedy. The designs for each of the characters is perfect and I like how you hint at all the different mechanics. Great work!

I don't even know how many times I've seen this video. And I laugh every time like it's the first time. Simply perfect.
Something is just so charming and emotional to me about silly antics in a game thats so deeply depressing and brutal. Like joy finds a way.... i gotta go cry hold on
I like to think that the little moments of laughter and happiness really make a difference in the dungeons. Like- physically, the power to be happy despite the horrors actively pushes back the malevolent powers inside.
In a similar way to how if you give in you are granted a place inside the dungeon; if you don’t let it consume you mentally, the powers at be can’t cause the little things that add up to a defeat.
Like, sure, if you encounter the traces of an elder god, you probably aren’t surviving unless you can somehow bore it into letting you go. But stuff like- mind degradation, or the drain on your hunger, just- just a bit less, giving you a better chance in the physical fights.
Nothing better than a beautiful cartoony artstyle for the hellspawn that is the funger

Not only are they extremely well done and animated, but your music tastes too. I adore "good life" from your DE video, and (my main thing I want to thank you for) "let's get this over with" by they will be giants. Its become one of my both most favorite and most personal songs of all time for me, meaning so many different things to me depending on when in life I was listening to it.
I doubt I ever would have listened to it if it wasn't In your Lisa video. I know it's wierd to get so thankful over a song you used for one of your videos, but I just felt I needed to say this, for all its done for me. So again, thank you. Both for the amazing animatics (that DE one I mentioned before is absolutely stunning even as an animatic) and for having a great taste in music :)

Yellow, I want to tell you that I have been watching your Lisa animatics ever since I was like 12-13 and Lisa was my highest hyperfixation. Right now I'm obsessed with this game, and seeing your style brings me a lot of nostalgia and happiness. Your animatics mean a lot to me, and I admire your dedication so much. I'd like to do animatics too, you're one of my biggest inspirations.

I'll confess, I'm not overly familiar with Fear and Hunger, but I'm just so charmed by the way you draw and characterize these fellows that I keep coming back to this animatic all the same :~) I especially love Cahara giving Enki's arm a little kiss after he finishes bandaging it, Ragnvaldr and Moonless(and D'arce and Enki's differing reactions), and Cahara's little shadow puppets and how the party responds. Keep up the great work!!

As someone who was in the Seussical in Highschool and enjoys the psychological trauma from this game, this is fantastic.
