- Professional footballer Matt Godden sharpens his short game with Dan Grieve. Matt started his football career at Scunthorpe United before working his way up the division's where he currently plays for Championship team, Coventry City. Matt is a scratch handicap golfer and may well be the best current footballer who plays golf?
Great to see a coach doing well on TH-cam due to their quality of knowledge rather than the usual algorithm chasers.
Dan’s is always direct and intentional while still being patient with positive energy. So easy to follow and able to connect the action with the results. The best!
He is so very patient with his students.
so many golfers around the world dreaming of Dan Grieve putting his arms around and helping your release 1
swoon lol
Hold me dan
So funny, but you are not wrong.
Me too !!! Hopefully I will, as I am attending one of his golf school soon 🤸♀️
Yet another fantastic video, the little interview about matts career part way through was also great
Knowledge overload !!! So many great hints and tips. MG is on another level when it comes to Golf, and he seems genuinely delighted with what he picked up.
Looking forward to speaking with Dan when I next play Woburn 😍
hello handsome thanks for your love and support love and care on my golf career, i pray God continue to bless you
Yet another top video Dan. My chipping & pitching have improved immensely since discovering your teaching. Have the ebook, excited to see what your new online teaching will bring. A massive thank you Dan for your eye opening teaching.
I love this format. Was looking forward to the contest at the end 😊
They've all been with better golfers though. I struggle with contact on r1, and shanks on r2. I'd love to see this type of lesson with a student whose short game is as bad as mine.
GREAT series of shots. Thank you!
Really enjoying these. The last couple of years I've gone from poor to mediocre by focusing on my 54 wedge and right arm/hand. Get a much softer flight and finally know what the bounce is for. If you were in Switzerland like me I'd book an appointment to upgrade from mediocre 🤣
Great vid - thank you Dan
Great video but be lovely to see more shots from face on to get a better idea of setup and what’s happening through the shot
Hey Dan. Amazing video. For release 1 Rachel seemed to have a more in-line (outside?) backswing and less right hip rotation compared to Matt who has a more inside backswing and right hip rotation. Which is preferable (while keeping the clubhead outside the hands) ? thanks for this great content !
Another amazing video 👍
Dan I've been practicing with this very gentle release, light grip pressure, not driving with the legs. At the simulator I am getting that 1.0 smash factor. But I've noticed when I have a lie in the rough I'm still struggling matching the distances I had off the mat. What should I be thinking about out of the rough that will help me get through the ball?
Studied the book, watched the videos, now just got to come over from NZ for a weekend course...mate, youre dreaming. Yes I am but dreams sometimes do come true.
How do you get that earlier release feeling without skulling the ball?
Dan. love the vids and learning loads. Can i use release two off mats at driving range? As I've no where to practice pitching at my golf club.
Thanks
Yes fine to work on it where suits
@@DanGrieveGolf thanks Dan.
Isn't Matt taking a lot more divots than Dan usually teaches? Seems he's not using the bounce.
Ground was absolutely sodden so divots inevitable.
Is it just me, or did he still never really move back his right hip?
Just you 👍
@@DanGrieveGolf Definitely a massive improvement in his right hip by the end of the lesson than at the start @2.13 where there it is very static. Great video Dan!
@@DanGrieveGolf you know best sir
when is the bullard content dropping?
Matt Godden aka YeahMan lol.
Maaan if you don't turn your hips! 😅
"I am really enjoying the longer videos, Dan! Your content is great and it provides simple swing thoughts to take to the chipping green. I would love to see more videos focused on shots from 50-100 yards. As some of us may not be getting the distance and flight that we would expect."
Yes yes and more yes
Amazing video as always, Dan. Thank you so much for these long form videos!
cant believe how much watching dan gives these lessons makes me want to go to the chipping green instead of the range
Brilliant, your instructions (thru you tube) has helped me get down from 12 to 6.4
We are always saying release 1,2or3 on course ❤ it 😂
Love these long form lessons Dan. Helping me improve my short game do much. ❤
Can you do one of these but with a high handicapper so we can see the evolution in one lesson?
And i will be the mid/high handicap player Dan 😊 please
i cant wait to meet Dan someday! his videos are incredible. excellent teacher.
Matt seems to think about golf in a similar way to me, so the instruction here was super helpful for me. Thanks Dan! Have yourself a coffee or a beer as a thank you
congrats on 100k Dan! Just got the book and loving it
Thanks hope it helps 👍
I am going to watch this twice and mine it for gold that is relevant for me.
Matt had the equivalent of winning a ticket to Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. A lesson from Dan would change your life. Great stuff.
I’ve learnt loads from this, was doing the exact same thing in my bunker shots, excited to try this out to get some height and spin finally!
Really great stuff Dan! I like these longer videos. I’ve got the short-game yips, and believe these techniques are going to be my ticket out of them. The techniques, and a lot of work. I’ve got something to work on though. So, thank you for that!👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Dan
Your bunker tips have transformed my bunker play..I actually look forward to being in a Greenside bunker if I am going to miss the Green..
i Was always shown understanding how the grip end works in relation to the head, was such an easy way to learn! its all about the opposites in Golf.
Great instruction to a good student. Nice Guys! Thanks
Great videos. How does distance get controlled? Is it using different clubs or a longer follow through?
I’ve gotten a few lessons from Dan and he does a great job
Very interesting array of short-game situations and shots. Somewhat surprising to me that any golfer could achieve a scratch handicap with just a functional short-game. Maybe if a player possesses an exceptionally good long-game then the short-game becomes much less important. It will be interesting to come back in a year, having practiced diligently at these situations to see how much of an improvement has been made in terms of handicap. I would expect to see him off plus 2 or 3 all other things being equal.
Hey Dan, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made.
I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel
Thank you for a fabulous lesson Danny G and Matt G! Love the content as it addresses faults and concepts useful to a lot of different levels.
hello handsome thanks for your love and support love and care on my golf career, i pray God continue to bless you
congrats for 100 k subs Dan.
Seven minutes into the video plastic practice balls are sailing around in my living room.
Great video! Very informative and great feel drills! Mahalo
Best videos about short game genius
So good!
are you sure thats not Stan Warwinka ?
Pro session….

Hi Dan, I’ve recently started playing golf and I purchased a full set/bag of clubs (Cobra Fly XL) but I’m struggling with shots close to the green. I need to purchase some wedges I feel, which degree/s would you recommend a new golfer to purchase and will more than likely be used more than others? Thanks, Kyle.
Love the practice movement where You don’t hold the club and you just turn your hips and shoulders while holding hands down and pivoting back and forward. Just getting this rhythm and the feel of the flow has helped loads.
Now before I hit I do this a couple times then maintain the feel in my practice swings. It helps clear my mind, stop thinking and worrying, and just feel the rhythm of the swing.

Dan, you’re amazing! keep up the brilliant teaching videos. When I pair it with the book lessons, it’s a Masterclass. I feel completely confident 100 yards and in. Thank you 🙏🏾
Fantastic video - really fascinating - that's my issue, dropping it under the plane on the downswing - wish I could have a lesson with you Dan !!!!
I really like the simplicity of the approach & your teaching style as well - not blinding with science, just a clear diagnosis & drills to fix.
Your teaching golfing IQ is very insightful, fantastic help to better your game. Thank you!
Old guy in the background had a perfect release 4, loose grip, and 3 shakes. Perfect execution 😂
Dan you are a genius 🤣 these videos are so good my shirt game has changed so much since watching them top class 👏🏼👏🏼
That's a proper round of golf. 40mph wind and pissing rain. Makes you feel alive! 😁
Cracking video Matt took everything onboard quickly can tell has a good golfing IQ
When's the "If you stand in my footprints" bunker polo being released 😂
A superb lesson in every part of the short game, thanks Dan and thanks Matt.
Any chance you wanna come to Pennsylvania? My short game could use you
Another great video Nice to see that even a great athlete struggles with the game
It's amazing when he hits a bad one Dan knows exactly why.
Always a great experience watching your videos.
Would love to see the miss at 30:20 dissected a bit more. Dan suggested that the back swing might have been a bit short, but when I played it back, I didn't get that sense. Maybe some "knee flinch"? Said it was a "reaction". Understanding such "reactions" would be of value it would seem, especially when such a fellow is otherwise striking so many quality shots. Late on the "release"? "Pulled on it". The "soft ground" stayed in place for most strikes. Maybe it's asking too much of current technology to get a complete look at what's going on with the club/ground interaction down there (super slomo?) - especially on such "misses".
Spoke too soon. He *did* dissect it more - longer, slower back swing and down swing making the knee move unnecessary.
The skull at 34:11. Frame by frame (using the period key) just doesn't look that bad! Just a high risk situation that one must accept? Maddening!
"Strap the arms on" - meaning elbows tight together? (43:30 Nope - "fold em"!) New concept to me. Guess I'll be watching Ernie more closely now.
Oh to have just a 1/4 of Dan's short game talent 😍
This is gold, thank you Dan
Perfect session. 😊😊😊😊
Amazing content, always take something away from these video's even though I am not the lucky recipient of the lesson, I know he's not current but Jimmy Bullard is the best footballer golfer I have seen, time to have a match?
Think they already have…
Thanks!
Hey Dan I live in Arizona and the ground is super hard and dry on mosy courses, if I need a lofted shot how do I achieve it?
I've just started using the toe down, high hands, stand close to the ball, out to in nipper Dan describes in his book and several videos, it's awesome! You just about need your eyes over the ball and aim to hit the ball and ground at the same time. Stiff wrists, no hinge. It's tough to judge but will send the ball up in the air, it will roll out a bit too
Thanks!
Do you recommend no glove for short game? Does that help feel and grip pressure?
I prefer no glove, helps you feel the shot better
During the early part of the lesson you referred to the chipping as R1 but as I watched the student most of the chips and release looked more like R2. Am i totally confused as I thought I was getting an understanding. Love these long lesson videos.
Not sure, I don’t tend to watch the videos back, but I don’t normally leave any confusion, maybe watch it back
@@DanGrieveGolf thanks. I think this is a great learning video and to me it seems like the club was stopping like a R2 , but I could be wrong. I only wish I lived on your side of the Atlantic.
Nothing on how to ensure you hit behind the ball, I suppose he is a scratch golfer and has the feel but for us that are scare in the bunker we need more instruction
Try my book, my app, my online course, my videos on instagram or the tuition on here, it’s all there. I can’t spoonfeed you!
