I understand the fly spray comments, but I live in Australia and there are certain times of the year you could coat them in flyspray and it makes no difference. Maybe that’s what is happening there? Anyway, the actual training part is great, been working on my boy going into canter without having a meltdown. This technique has helped so much. He gets the cue now and doesn’t panic with the transition. We’re just working on maintaining the gait in a relaxed way and that is better as well.
Good video and information and explanations. Hard to believe that there were so many comments about fly spray. It is summer and there are flies, gnats, etc. I use fly spray, fly boots and a fly mask and the flies are still annoying to the horses. Sometimes I think the spray attracts them.
When she went over obstacles the first one especially the fly reaction habit stopped I think. Mostly habit forming tail swishing as its a regular sequence left left then right or round and round its just her perhaps😊
Arm chair observations from someone who, once upon a time, used to train. 1. Compared with where I lived (San Diego, CA) other parts of the country have a lot more horse/deer flies than I grew up with. It seems to me that a good dosage of horse spray before training would be in order. If they have had it, then I truly feel sorry for the level of annoyance they must endure. (Also, since I'm not close up, I cannot tell if that tail swishing is also a bit of temper/attitude.) 2. My "heart-horse" was a thoroughbred also. It seems to me that especially when circling to her left, which appears to be her non-dominate lead, the smaller circle made it harder to comply with the request. I've found that for longer-legged breeds, that really matters. I believe if she were given a couple more feet of rope, she would have done better. 3. The Bucking with the Saddle at a Lope: We often saw that happen early in the saddle training. What we found was that the stirrups bouncing on their sides from the beginning was just too much. We would initially tie them up on the seat until the horse was more comfortable. Then we would attach a rope to the stirrups under the horse so they wouldn't fly up and bounce so much. Then we would untie them. We also started all the horses with a bareback pad, often when they were yearlings (or older depending on the breed) just so they got used to the idea of a girth.
Is it likely that she may improve but will always be more whoa than go? I thought the session helped her understand better what was expected. I always appreciate the improvement without a lot of dust!
Six minutes into this. The horse is crowding her so she pets her? She takes a step to into her space and she steps back? That to me is fundamental and huge. You cannot get her to stop turning so how do you expect to get in the saddle? Let me see what Mr. Rose here thinks. Well Mr. Rose was not accepting crowding. I would have backed her up for any forward motion. He was addressing what the lady asked about very well. I would guess the lady hand feeds her treats. I will hush and watch other videos. I sub and see.
I live in the humid south and it's unbelievably buggy. I use ultra boss or pro zap pour on for cows. Safe for horses. It's oily but it works. Apply from poll to dock in a line, along belly and chest. You can put a little on legs but I use shoo fly boots. Lasts 3-4 days in pasture. Don't dilute it. I also braid a cow ear tag into mane it has insecticide in it. Hope this helps y'all.
Having a hell of a time up here in the great lakes region this year too! We haven't had good enough winters to kill any of them off. I can't imagine the bugs everyone else has 😬
What is the sequence then for maintaining gait? For the ask, I have done the "point, canter word, spank" and now have a good depart on the lunge, but not sure how to keep it without chasing like a fool 😂
He actually covered this in the previous video I think. Add pressure when they slow down by tapping them with stick and string. When he maintains gait, thén you make the canter word/sound.
Makes me sad when I see them bronc with the saddle on. Definitely holes missing in the training. I never have them bronc because they’ve had rugs ropes and lots of other things that has desensitised them first. They don’t even care they have a saddle on. I wonder if this mare has ulcers??? Thoroughbreds are notorious for being sensitive and most have ulcers. Maybe worth checking. All the best ❤
@@lizheadrick6284 I am sure he would of been told by the owner how old the young horse is . But starting a young horse before it is mentally ready is just crazy . One way to cook a horses brain before it is ready and having it shut down . This is the result of being in too much of a hurry to break in a horse to be ridden .Horses dont mentally mature till they are over 6 yrs of age .

Ulcers? You didn't mention that possibility.?

This is a TRAINING video. People need to get over the flies and focus on the content. Thanks for the video!
Nope, hotse has to be reasonably comfortable and not focused on discomfprt due to flies

I really like this horse. She seems very smart.

I came on here to comment about the flies and glad to see I am not the only one. It was driving me nuts and that is a pretty short drive.

Nicely done!
Put some fly spray on ❤
Is that why she's stomping her feet so much?
@@n.y.f2490 yup
doesn't always do anything
Some may not use it because they think it harms the horse health?
Some TB's are so sensitive you either can't use it on them and some its like its like you have not even sprayed them...
She's athletic, light on her feet. If you can convince her that you have something to offer, she could be a nice one.
Fly spray would help a lot!
Sometimes it doesn’t really help^^
Find her problem, fix it and move forward. Nice troubleshooting. She looks young but understands. Clearly annoyed by flies.

That poor little mare, she's getting bitten to glory.
I know, it’s really upsetting but sometimes fly spray doesn’t help.

Great video!! I would like to more about the camera please!
She looks so young.
Wouldn’t he know that?!

The flys are bothering her, the horse in the background seems fine.
I am truly amazed at all the comments here , pretty scary . 😢

Ya fly spray!!!
Fly spray can’t help sometimes.
This horse makes me antsy just watching with all the stomping and tail swishing. Were the flies that bad or is there some other reason she does this?
It looks like flys, but I can’t really tell.
Y'all saying "fly spray" clearly don't live in the midwest during the summer lmao . . . half the time fly spray doesn't do anything
Literally!!!
Yup. I use it liberally but you'd think I didn't use it at all if you saw us.

Yep I have a 15hh paint and everytime I put it on him and it don’t work

Stick and string

If they break gait, pressure. Don't pressure them when they're in gait. It's their responsibility to keep going, not yours.
Little miss attitude, have fun with her . Good that you learn from the best :)
Fly spray... They can't learn constantly swatting flies... could you?
Sometimes fly spray does not help them as much as you think.
How 8s it a " good home" if she comes back " under weight"?
How old is this mare? She looks either extremely young and anxious or is annoyed by flies swarming her.
@dianer9203. She does look very young and a bit Robby. Yes the flies are driving her mad!
The word google keeps replacing is that you can see her ribs!
Why wouldn't she have administered fly spray before the session....
Sometimes fly spray does not help at all.
How old is this horse?
She will never learn with all those flies distracting her. Poor girl
It’s really only annoying to her. But sadly fly spray won’t help at certain times.
what makes a horse constantly stamp their feet?
flies
For what it’s worth fly spray literally does nothing sometimes
She did ground work????
I have a horse that is spooky. He does not like too be countroling of me hi ow do I fix the problem
Is she hurting physically?
I think it’s horses getting bit by a horsefly something is bothering it to where it’s really not even being able to focus
Yeah, but sadly fly spray doesn’t help them at all sometimes so I’m assuming this is one of those situations.
Horse kept stomping its feet on the ground. Is she anxious? Does this variable matter?
She annoyed by the flies on her so she stomping, tail swishing
how old is this wee horse? she looks very immature
Here I thought chess chat was bad, 😂😂😂
Use fly spray

That's either a really small thoroughbred or a really big woman.
Thoroughbreds can be pony size
Sonjador...
How old is that horse? She doesn't look old enough to be started under saddle.
She's really stiff on that right side. She doesn't look comfortable.
👍🏽
Fly spray
Doesn’t help in certain times.
Is it me or did she seem to have weird eyes? Like small eyes and heavy/pronounced upper eye lids?
It's interesting how she speaks with her feet and tail. She stomps when she's frustrated and thinking. It's really interesting to watch.
I think the flies are bothering her.
Yup, she thinks she doesn’t really like it . Has nothing to do with flies imo
She doesn't look any more than 3yrs of age . Way too young . By the looks of her she is still only a baby .!!!
Wouldn’t he know that?!

Who needs a trainer when fly spray solves all your problems?
I hate to tell you but fly spray doesn’t work or help in some circumstances.
She has some issues with those fly's.
Yeah, sadly fly spray probably won’t help.
That is no horse I would want o deal with.
My God. Get some dang fly spray. She can’t even concentrate .
Fly spray does not help in certain times. So there’s not really anything you can do for them besides hope for the best.
She stamps like a child with her feet’s funny to see 😂
