  • A DIY project for an apparatus that will permit one person to safely load and unload a canoe from a car-top. This is helpful for those who are without lifting assistance or who have shoulder injuries. Plans that are at the end of the video are courtesy the journal Wooden Canoe, issue 149 (October 2008).

I have been looking for a boat loader solution for a long time. After studying many alternatives, I believe that your solution is the best. There are sophisticated systems, but yours is the most ingenious. I will try to make a similar one. Congratulations

Amazing. I thought it was over-engineered. But it is perfect.

This fails because you still needed two people, even tho one was an old lady. The whole point of these car topper systems is that they are operated by one man.

How much did this cost to make? Looks like it would be super useful for loading and unloading a boat safely.

i like to see people DIY, but how is this an improvement over the Reese Towpower Canoe Loader system or others like it?

the jig is built wrong ...the one and a half side of the 2x4 should carry the weight not the wide 3and one half side ever do any framing

All that technology and no nose rope to hold the canoe on the car. Big safety fail!

If you can lift the canoe onto the rig and then carry it, you can certainly take it off the car
without the rig. Waste of time and effort!

You are obviously young, and have no experience with joints that don't work anymore and rotator cuff injuries that make it virtually impossible to raise your arms above your head . Old folks sometimes don't want to give up the things they love, like paddling their 80 pound canoe. So this fellow built something that permits him to use his canoe, and shared it with others who might also benefit.

Damn!!! Take ya long enough?!?! I also don’t understand the advantage here. There’s two people and they did bend.

Good looking canoe , bad looking jig.
    Too much time to unload.

Would have been quicker to ask the people watching to help lift it off !
Let’s hope that there is always room next to car to set it up or he’s up shit street
