Spent 8 years active duty military, 25 years as a cop in a big city due to retire in 6 weeks, made good financial decisions and saved well. I'm 53, my wife of 22 years is 43, we are retiring and going to do WHAT WE want to do, not what the government wants us to do. Let the fun begin.
“Adventure tippin & wine sippin”😂😂😂
I spent most of my life chasing the almighty dollar and missed most of my kids growing up. Now my kids are grown and I realize how worthless all my work was. My wife and I are now making memories that I should have been making when my kids were young. I am now 71 so I don’t know how much longer I will be able to get out and travel. Going to do it as long as possible. Love y’all’s channel. Keep up the good work and enjoy life.
My backyard! Love this area. Nice representation of it. Gypsum crystal.
"Die with memories, not Dreams!" great motto.
Dying with memories, not dreams is how we should all live our lives, find any amount of freedom you can and relish it....
Man those drone shots with the jeeps are just perfect. So beautiful what a great land we live in. Its great we all can share our lives together in one small way.
"Die with memories. Not dreams." That has to be one of the most profound expressions I've ever heard. I absolutely agree. None of us knows what lies in wait tomorrow. So might as well live for today. Banana Ron said in his cross country series "Live like you're going to die tomorrow, but plan like you're going to live forever."
I have work to do.
Matt. My wife and I love your conversations with the camera. It makes us feel like we are riding along with you. We have lived our lives making memories with our son as he was growing up. If you wait until you retire, the old body just isn’t the same. Great movie.
The crystals you we’re finding are selenite. They are actually made from gypsum. They are an evaporate mineral.
You, sir, are a philosopher as much as an explorer. And we are kindred spirits. Enjoy your vids. I’m 65 and when I grow up, I want to be like you. 😊
Thanks!!
Die with Memories not with dreams that’s so true AMEN
Love that phrase. "Die with memories, not dreams" That really resonates with me. At the same time, our dreams are only echoes of our memories. Goes hand in hand in my opinion. I absolutely love what y'all do and plan to do the same thing one day. Until then safe travels and can't wait for the next one! Adventure on!
This is the clearest video on all of youtube. You and Matts off road recovery now. Don't know what you two started using but it is CLEAR.
Thank you!
"Die with memories, not dreams" I like it! For me a different phrase I first encountered in a novel by Brandon Sanderson has come to the front "Journey before Destination."
The world is an amazing place. Thank you for showing me a place I’ve never been.
Matt and Karen, one of your best videos yet. My son and I met Kara where you guys set up camp. But it was about 5 degrees. My son and I thank you for inspiring us to get into overlanding. It's been an amazing experience for us to do this together especially since we live across the country from each other. Hopefully we can connect in the Ozarks one day. Keep making great content and inspiring others. Thx
The mineral you found might be selenite. I know gypsum is mined in Utah near Moab, etc. Selenite is a form of gypsum.
You were supposed to pile on and tell him it's uranium...lol.
Been ‘making memories’ on a smaller more local scale. Now my granddaughter is three, we took her tent camping for a week in WV. This was basically a trial run for our next trips. Have learned much from your channel and thank you for that. We had a couple blips…but what a great adventure is was for us! N’joy!
Another outstanding production. Thank you for taking us along.
That's was me! That's such a trip to me to hear you talk about me on your channel! I'm definitely subscribed again! I don't know what happened. I heard Rory from Trail Mater mention that was happening to his audience too. And i had to resubscribe to his channel. Kinda weird but I'm glad you mentioned it. Btw skydiving is amazing! That and Moab are my best times! Although i can say that eating at least an eighth of mushrooms was better than both! Might wanna try that sometime if you haven't! Cheers!
Try listening to Matisyahu if you do, it'll blow your mind! I'm a little guy though, you might wanna eat a quarter. Die with memories not dreams!
"just like camping by the river,..."( except the river is 8000+ feet below you...) drone hug shot , awsome...!
I’m fairly certain that the crystal formation is selenite! It is a beautiful crystal! ❤
Commenting as I need… beautiful campsite above the canyon! That green river valley is gorgeous! ❤
The clear mineral you saw was Mica it used to be used in oven doors for the window area
Oh man! I want to take my husband (and Jeep) out there next year🙂
That was an epic campsite!!! Awesome!! I love "Die with memories, not dreams." I think it would make a great tattoo. Safe travels!
Loved this video. Showed to my wife and she was so struck with your new mindset or mantra or whatever you want to call it. "Die with memories, not dreams" that she had some vinyl made for her passenger side dash!! Can't wait for the rest of the series! She's from Oregon, so super excited for that!! Thanks for all the great content!!
That’s awesome
I like the saying for your Tshirt. I think the younger generation is more apt to spend money and time on experiences. My generation (almost 60) was so focused on rules IMHO. I was always looked at as weird because I didn’t always conform to the expectations of the rules. Not too many regrets. Your wife looks great (in a respectful way). I always appreciate you guys and your gentle, kind manners. Thank you! Peace!
I’ll get that (die with memories, not dreams) tattooed with OOAT decal.
I think this is one of your best videos!!! Love it
Wow, thank you!
What a view to wake up to !!!
It's a book title "Die With Memories, Not Dreams: A Practical Guide to Turn Dreams into Memories - Author Tom Parker
Talk about resonating. Absolutely. Your “die with memories, not dreams” hit me like a ton of bricks. I really appreciate the conversation and reflections while your driving there.
Great quote! Looking forward to the tee shirt! A sticker would be cool as well.
I love the ‘ Die with Memories, not dreams’. My parents were Overlanding before it was Overlanding! Those memories and your videos have given me the drive to start Overlanding for myself!!
The San Rafael Swell is my favorite place followed closely by the Owyhee Canyonlands. Beautiful videography and you certainly did it justice!
Love the aerial shots
We've been exploring The Swell on the north side of I70 over the last year. It's been a favorite area for us. Its also very convenient that it's only 2 hours from Grand Junction! Great video, we really enjoyed it.
The ok corral was in Tombstone Arizona btw.
Great flying video showing the vastness of that area.
Crazy how beautiful a waste land can be. And that canyon! ❤️
Love how you think Matt. “How did that rock get here?” I want to know the answers to these questions too!
Matt, we are leaving for the DBBB on Sunday. Then to West Virginia and an entire week on the DBBB and the KAT. Live like it's the last day of your life every day if you can. Jump out of the airplane buddy and live!
Might be the best episode you ever made. Just awesome!
Thank you!
you 2 are livin the dream
We've seen both those petroglyphs and I loved Matt's reaction to the Wedge! Epic. Best camp spot ever!
The Mars Desert Research Station is just north west of Hanksville and east of the Factory Bench area.
And I thought that I got around!
way to go cara. u need your own channel 😊
The southwest US was by fsr the best trip I've ever been on. My wife and I went a couple years ago for a 2 week trip and fell in love. We went in Spring and had snow on parts of the trip while other areas were in the upper 90's. Unfortunately it wasn't an overlanding trip. The next one will be though. After that trip my wife and I both kind of adopted that same idea of living rather than dreaming. Somethings may not be attainable, but we would both rather leave our kids with memories of what we did with them rather than thoughts of things we could have done.
Hello. Your speech resonated deeply with me. (Die with memories, not dreams ) great words to live by. I can count my regrets with both hands. Don't have very many those words will help me keep it that way. Thanks
Can feel your excitement Matt.❤❤
I'm heading out that way from CT in August. My only schedule so far is starting at Expo Mountain West . Then I'm off to wherever. Have all the time I need.
I share your sentiment here for sure. At 67, overlanding is just the next adventure in my life. I will say, at 67, doing it solo gets mentally tough sometimes. So so wonderful you have Kara.
❤❤
My dad always called leave it right where you found it we used to do a lot of rock hounding as he made custom jewelry
Cara you’re a rockstar! 👊🏻 Make memories everyday!🧡❤️💜

I live in Utah and have been through the San Rafael Swell many times. Loved your drone shots driving through the area. I also really appreciate how clean you keep your videos - no swearing, etc. Great job. I was also subscribed and looked but somehow became unsubscribed. Love how you show how to do overlanding inexpensively.
Thanks!!
We had a similar saying “Die Living.” While on this earth, did you REALLY LIVE? There’s just being alive and existing and then there’s living your life.
Enjoy it all friends! We’re placed here to gather experiences and share stories.
We know every inch of the swell, absolutely love it!! Hopefully run into you again at Expo Mtn. West👍
Time to come out to California and do the Rubicon. 😃
I was in your back yard last weekend (not literally ) but in the Ozarks ,Mark Twain Forrest (Glade Top Trails { trail 510] ).. had a blast even though it was hot as Hades......
Mineral is Selenite - "Gypsum Crystals"; found all over the Swell, have fun and enjoy your adventure.
Awesome. Thank you.
Thanks for the heads up about the Commercial Filming Permit needed for National Parks. I had no idea. You are right about it being expensive. I just looked it up. There is an application fee, and then a permit fee, and other possible fees on top of that. From what I understand, its $250 minimum and can go up from there. My channel is small and far from being monetized. There is no way I can justify spending that kind of money for a filming permit. I have (had) some plans to film a few videos for my channel on National Park land but now that I am aware of this, I will make other plans.
This might be a bit long but bear with us. Our original plan for retirement was to sell the house and buy an RV and spend our days travelling the country at various campgrounds. We recently discovered overlanding videos on TH-cam which lead us to your channel. Our new plan is to get a rig and off road camper and enjoy. Thank you for instilling in us a dream that will become a memory
Sounds like an awesome plan!!!!
Great video! I agree with your statement about die with memories not dreams. I’ve been very fortunate in my life that my parents instilled that in me at a young age and I’ve been healthy to make those memories.
Wow great adventure 😊👍💯
Mana, gods tears, boat nectar..... (Llama with hats)
I like that. Die with memories not dream's. So die with memories not dream's, the goal in life is to die young as late as possible.
yes i definitely would buy a ozark overland shirt with that saying on it, live with memories not dreams.
That's not "council of elders". That's YouRock content creators😆
Hi Matt and Cara, love love love the landscape. Your rigs look amazing. Matt love your ikamper. Thank you for sharing!😊
Thanks so much!
Epic scenery! 🤯
I heard that expression years ago.. die with memories and not dreams. But a lot of loss in the last 6 years kept me from getting out there and doing it
Love the Swell. Hope you didn't bring too much water on your trip.
We had the trailer so that wasn't an issue. LOL
Awesome job on your heath journey Cara! I know you feel better. Keep up the good work!
Great area. Heading out there just before fall this year.
Thanks!
Thanks so much!!
I love that saying "Die with memories not dreams". I am very much interested in overlanding but not interested in the technical. I like going off road but I have to avoid high clearance roads.
Ok, So I think its crazy that at spot 4:32 Wife and I were there last year. I think your near Goblin State Park which is pretty Cool. Also, I just paused to type this.
Ok, I hope you drove over to the Temple of The Moon. Near that is Glass Mountain, its a big formation of Selenite Crystals.
That sounds like me too! I wanna die with memories not dreams!! 👍 😎
When you make those t-shirts, I’ll buy one! 😊
The dream and memory statement hits home with me as well… the brown and grey rocks remind me a bit of the badlands. The crystals, did you taste one to see if it was salty ? 😅
That was an epic campsite, say so my self.👍
Wow what an amazing landscape and what an epic camp spot. 😍😍😍 Great video
Thanks so much!
Salt Crystals
Water molecules are polarized - they have a negative side (oxygen) and a positive side (hydrogen). So what's happening is that polarized water is breaking the ionic bonds holding the sodium and chlorine in the salt together. When the water dries up, the two elements can rejoin and form crystals
Where did you get that “Go away” Jeep T-shirt? I want one!
That's our shirt. Get them at ShopOverlandApparel.com
You are absolutely correct on viewers checking to see if they are still subscribed to YT channels. I had 70K subscribers liberal YT deleted my entire channel for doing videos on God, Guns Politics. Thumbs up on your hard work on this video but not on beauty on the landscape. Something to see 1 time but a dead barren place . God Bless
Very cool. Anyone know if our 20'' dually RV can make it to the Wedge, or are trails too narrow or maybe dips that would drag the bk-end?
I need the link to your oakleys lol 😂
You missed the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon? You will have to go back, filming or not. And Moonscape Overlook with the drone. It will become your favorite spot on earth.
We didn't have time to go by there.
Another wonderful posting! Keeps getting better every time! Quick question Matt, where did you get your watch band? Keep up the great work and as always, thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Watch band came from Amazon.
my G Dane said "woof...' to Goose....
your crystalline shards may be quartz, but more likely from the sheet of it, I suspect mica.
Unreal video guys.
Stunning location.
We’re Aussies & good to make some memories in Utah just after Christmas, we’ll fly into salt lake, any tips on renting a 4wd with potentially a roof top tent ? And is there anywhere in Utah you’d really recommend we visit, we’re pro landscape photographers. Obviously the wedge looks cool, cheers & thanks Brett
Great video, as always. Question for you, what is that rail system you have in the cab of your Jeep to mount your cameras and whatever else to?
Anvil Overland
Selenite AKA Gypsum.
is the little wiggly thing above your left side dash cam a fill light?
It's an external mic.
@@grizzlyworksrc external mic, copy that, great video...
Where did Cara get the wine shirt. My wife likes it and I’d like to order it for her.
I got it at Moore Expo. Not sure the vendor!!
My first question “I wonder if it tastes like salt? I would have licked it” and of course you answered that question for me 😂
😂😂
I need the link to that topo wedding ring!
Groove ring.
Funny I live right near the swell and I don't even know what that crystal is called. But I have some very large pieces some of which weighed more than 20 lb.
Selenite
How do you keep all that dust out of your gear, and fridge motor?
All my gear fits in my SHW drawer slide. No dust gets in. The fridge is fine.
What psi on tires is recommended going thru San Rafael Swell? What’s a good mph average to enjoy the views but still make good progress thru the dirt trails?
We were at 18psi. Not sure what our pace was but we weren't in a hurry.
Is that shiney stuff salt? Maybe from a ancient sea bed?
