I really loved the content of this video. Before this I was so confused with AWS envelope encryption. But after going through this, I have a clear understanding.
What I understood is KMS AWS Managed-keys or Customer-Managed Keys both work the same, they both generate data-key in plain-text format and encrypted format, plain-text format of data-key is used to encrypt the plain text data to cyphertext blog, encrypted data key only stays with data for later to help decrypt the data by helping the master key to generate similar plain text data key to decrypt the cyphertext blog to plain text

KMS now supports asymmetric encryption : Digital signing with the new asymmetric keys feature of AWS KMS. AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) now supports asymmetric keys. You can create, manage, and use public/private key pairs to protect your application data using the new APIs via the AWS SDK.Nov 25, 2019

Thank Sir! Great Explanation of KMS keys. One question, you said that after encrypting the data, the plaintext data key gets deleted. So, how do we decrypt the actual data because the plaintext data key that encrypted the data was deleted.
Hi, i am noticing some discrepancies. I am sure i am getting it wrong but pls clarify. You mentioned that EBS Volumes uses data keys for encryption of data. My question is then regarding Encrypting RDS databases. As per AWS link below, it says " Data stored at rest on the volume, database snapshots, automated backups, and read replicas are all encrypted under the KMS CMK that you specified when you created the DB instance" How is that Database uses CMK if they are meant to

When u decrypt the encrypted data is used by master key to regenerate plaintext key, which is then used to decrypt

you need to ensure that IAM permissions are set right for your key.
