Rig Wheels, a USA company (LA area?) has components to build such a car rig mount, but it's $1,000 USD. They sell components, including magnet cups which never come loose and (if your car is steel) works great. They also sell suction cups, as do many film supply houses. You might want to try hood mound or door mount. Rig Wheels sell both, you might check them out for reverse engineering ideas. I must say I'm impressed, and after I convert those pesky metric measurements to USA, this has moved to the top of my list of film grip projects to build! This has made my day!
I'll definitely upgrade some days with Righ wheels or Tilta's accessories. I just wanted to prove that it's possible to do it, on a budget. Let me know how you go, keen to see your results! :D

Such a great video test Guillaume, but also what a motivating DIY option! Resulting footage is just perfect, which brings one question in my mind: Since there's still some wobbling at the base of the Ronin during car movement (which is logical), could that slight movement be absorbed by the Ronin motor alone (thus giving you a perfect stabilized shot right out the bag), or did you still have to add some stabilization in post, in order to get this 100% final result? Anyway the result that you probably hoped for is reached, i would say it worthed the 2-3 days building of the system!
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words! No, as I wrote at the bottom at the beginning of the video, I didn't add any kind of stabilization in post :) All the cinematic shots in this video are straight out of the camera 6K39 conformed to a 4K24 timeline with a REC709 conversion lut and some color grading but that's it! The vibration isolator did a perfect job at removing those micro vibrations. The larger wobbles as you noticed are fully compensated by the gimbal, the main reason being that everything I filmed was fairly far from the lens. I should have included some shots where you can see my car in the frame. Then if I hit a bumper, you'd see the car sliding left to right. Next step is to put the RED Gemini and a 70-200 and eventually a x2 teleconverter (probably twice the weight) and see how it goes :D

wow, so impressive! I'd love to see some car chasing scenes captured with this setup! From what I understand, if you wanted to create some fast pace car overtaking james bond style car cashing scenes, you can make your setup less woobly with shortening wired "legs" right?

Je vais essayer de monter le Ronin S2 avec le Sony A7SIII sur mon systeme (beaucoup beaucoup plus leger) mais je pense qu'il va falloir que j'enleve quelques cables sinon ca sera trop rigide. Tu veux une certaine flexibilité pour que ca absorbe les grosses vibrations. Je veux aussi essayer avec la RED Gemini et le 70-200 qui est beaucoup plus lourd :D

Surtout la video de pourquoi tu achètes une RED, même si je suppose que c'est parce que tu peux la rentabiliser aujourd'hui :D

I assume you mean nd filter? I used the Polarpro VND 2-5 this time. However it was too bright for this one as you can see some vignetting/weird color shift in some shots pushing the ND to 5 stops. Should have used the stronger VND :)

very good point and I'm actually surprised no one mentioned this before ahaha. If you had up the cost of the camera and all the accessories you'd be around $20k floating on a $200 DIY setup 😅 We were in covid lockdown and I wanted to do something with my hands to keep me busy. I wanted to get a car mount for a long time so I built this purely for fun ;)
Man this is so dope and so buttery!! I always find it insane watching the bts of what the camera is actually doing and how the shots turn out.

If you shorten the wires, the vibrations will transfer more to the gimbal and make the footage more shaky.

Yes definitely! I don't use it for high speed chase on the highway but for epic parallax shots at slow speed I get some pretty incredible results!

You have an 8,000 dollar gimbal.. why would you only build a 200 dollar mount? Isn't that like putting Firestone tires on a Bentley?
