Dave. I have to say I greatly appreciate your vids. You are by far my favorite TH-camr. You show lots of things other woodcrafters do not. It's always informative and useful. Your presentation is easy to understand and follow yet not condescending. I just wanted to say thank you for your contribution to the realm of woodcraft.

Reminds me of the old canvas desert water bags. My dad used to always have one hanging in the bed of his truck, out in the hot sun but the water would be cool to drink. Works like a swamp cooler I guess, using evaporation to cool it off.
Thank you for your videos. I enjoy every one of them.

Hey Dave, just finished reading your new book and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. Been watching your videos for a few years now and the book reminded me of a lot of things I had forgotten. Great job and looking forward to your next one.

Nice! I've made one of these exact things by accident before out of a piece of old plastic I found laying in the woods. One good thing about tornado alley is that lots of tornadoes make very useful things fly very long distances every spring. I used a piece of twine and a pebble to pin it, though. Worked like a charm for both toting water from the river and holding it in a covered basin dug in the ground.

Dave, great stuff. You videos as of late have been just excellent. It is hard to find stuff on the tube that not everyone else is copying from everyone else. Here lately you have been really knocking it out of the park with unique stuff. Loving it. Keep up the good work and to the 5 haters, I just shake my head. They have no idea what gold looks like as they throw rocks.

I use a piece of canvas for laying out my gear. It keeps it off the ground or snow and it saves me from digging around in my backpack. I also made a food bag from canvas which can double as a water container.

I kind of laughed when you mentioned that you can either be close to your water or your latrine - never thought of it that way. When in the back country, I tend to avoid camping close to my water because I just find that is the best way to avoid other animals, especially the two legged sort. I also avoid cooking where I sleep for much the same reason.

Dave an idea for that canvas where you don't have to pin anything is to use those smooth stone toggles on each of those corners you're putting together like you do on your shelter and tie everything together on that one side with a piece of cordage rather than using that pin. That way you're not punching holes in your fabric and tearing it up over time.

Ohh I remember those trees growing up... When I was 4-5 I stepped flat down on a 3 inch thorn. My Dad had to take it out by taking a sewing needle and punching it into my skin and slowly pushing it out. On top of that it was a Sunday, and of course I walked around church all day with the wound still raw.

Dave, interesting you were reading this book and decided to try this out. I was thinking today it would be interesting for many, especially a lot of the kids today, if you tried and documented some of the techniques from the book 'Hatchet'. A lot of the schools are using it as mandatory reading. There's a series of them. The videos would really connect with the younger generation interested in bushcraft. My youngest is 11 and he and I read them all. (I think I liked them more than he did, but it was his entry into reading for pleasure.)

The folding on this seems very similar to an origami cup, the only difference is the tips of the two "arms" that you modified the fold on by folding over would be brought up higher. Sorry if my description wasn't the best but it's difficult to describe without pictures.

I wonder if the two thumbs are too close together and you have a novice computer user that just hits the thumb down by accident? Otherwise they just don't have a clue what it takes to create a video for one or have a historical how to video. I like to search the internet and find out what I can on the subjects. I enjoy the information Dave Thank You.

Genius! This can be adapted for emergency situations after a hurricane when all you have laying around is some plastic, or tyvec sheeting and junk. As long as the material itself can hold water, you are set. Of course, for the material that can't hold water, you can make a bag to carry stuff, or a bag to put on a pack frame. Brilliant! Thanks for the video.

I read somewhere you can also use those thorns as suture needles? Just put a small hole in the end for your thread and sew away....(holy MOLY! That would HURT)
But if your miles away from aid you do what ya gotta do....prolly would be less painful than the ole' black powder route eh' Dave.

Canvas will naturally repel water. It is the way it is woven and also expands some when it comes in contact with water. The warmer the water the more you the fibers expand. However, do not let your canvas bag lean up against something, especially when you're carrying it, you will find out how fast it will leak. Just some helpful advice.
