I've made this statement several times but I'll say it again. We might need some police reform but we definitely need parenting reform in this country.
I taught my friends daughter to handle firearms. This, at the time, 11 yo girl was living at her grandparents house. I taught her to aim for center mass, and if it is coming through the door aim for the door knob and adjust accordingly. 2 weeks later someone tried getting in the house, she got the gun and yelled that she was armed. That intruder left the area. When I was teaching her how to handle firearms I told her the first time that trigger is pulled your life will change, and you will have to live with that decision for the rest of your life there are no take backs.
And then there’s the law of gravity, that bullet fired into the air isn’t gonna stay up there. If you have the time to fire a warning shot, you had time to take less than lethal action, these are the two main reasons most departments will fire an officer, and possibly charge him with reckless endangerment for firing warning shots.

We had an 8 year old boy killed at a 4th of July celebration a few years ago in my town (suburbs of Richmond, VA) by someone shooting a gun in the air. The bullet came down and killed him while he was walking with his dad. His murder has never been solved. 💔😢

From the time the officer arrived until the time he shot the knife welding teenager, is about 3 seconds. And the cop still remained in a frame of mind that he landed all 4 shots on target. No bystanders were hurt only the girl he shot at. Most people would have freaked out and that woman in pink would be dead.

I don't disagree with him. Killing a person IS radical. However, he fails to think of the next logical step: is there ever a time or circumstance that killing a person is reasonable or justified? Yes: stopping a person from imminently inflicting death or grievous bodily harm on you, or another person, is not only justified, its legal, and one would think its in the job description of law enforcement officers, who actually have tools (and sometimes the training) to do it
Your point on knowing the entire story of each situation is right on target! This is why so many police officers who've been charged with crimes during the performance of their duties are found not guilty when they get to trial. Once the entire scenario is laid out in court common sense usually prevails, but it's too late for any officer involved to salvage his career and sometimes, even his family. Someone I knew was in Afghanistan in the early 2000s. His transport hit a landmine and they all got blown sky-high. As he was coming to, he saw kids, no older than 10 or 12, running up to him and the remains of the vehicle with a flamethrower. He's alive--they're not. He had a really hard time coping with that one. When you are in a life or death situation, you don't think, you just act. That is why training is so important. It is also important to understand that when someone is in a blind rage, under the influence, or brainwashed into believing you're the enemy, you have limited options to deal with such a situation
I'd venture to say that an angry teen girl with a knife is one of the most lethal people on the face of the earth. Fast, strong and doesn't care about the consequences of her actions on a good day, much less during a fit of rage. I taught my friends daughter to handle firearms. This, at the time, 11 yo girl was living at her grandparents house. I taught her to aim for center mass, and if it is coming through the door aim for the door knob and adjust accordingly.
2 weeks later someone tried getting in the house, she got the gun and yelled that she was armed. That intruder left the area.
When I was teaching her how to handle firearms I told her the first time that trigger is pulled your life will change, and you will have to live with that decision for the rest of your life there are no take backs.

I don't disagree with him. Killing a person IS radical. However, he fails to think of the next logical step: is there ever a time or circumstance that killing a person is reasonable or justified? Yes: stopping a person from imminently inflicting death or grievous bodily harm on you, or another person, is not only justified, its legal, and one would think its in the job description of law enforcement officers, who actually have tools (and sometimes the training) to do it
Your point on knowing the entire story of each situation is right on target! This is why so many police officers who've been charged with crimes during the performance of their duties are found not guilty when they get to trial. Once the entire scenario is laid out in court common sense usually prevails, but it's too late for any officer involved to salvage his career and sometimes, even his family. Thank you two for standing up for what is right. Hopefully others are listening.

These so called kids are bigger than most average sized adults today and if they got a weapon are you gonna ask their age in a life or death situation hell no.
Someone I knew was in Afghanistan in the early 2000s. His transport hit a landmine and they all got blown sky-high. As he was coming to, he saw kids, no older than 10 or 12, running up to him and the remains of the vehicle with a flamethrower. He's alive--they're not. He had a really hard time coping with that one. When you are in a life or death situation, you don't think, you just act. That is why training is so important. It is also important to understand that when someone is in a blind rage, under the influence, or brainwashed into believing you're the enemy, you have limited options to deal with such a situation
I'd venture to say that an angry teen girl with a knife is one of the most lethal people on the face of the earth. Fast, strong and doesn't care about the consequences of her actions on a good day, much less during a fit of rage. Add to that the fact that most people would not dream of a sweet girl being dangerous- but cops know- you look at what they are doing and what is in their hands.
I can't imagine, yet I've heard similar stories from friends and co-workers who served.
