- UKEC's Projek Amanat Negara (PAN) held on 29 January 2012 featured the first public debate between UMNO & BN Youth Chief, YB Khairy Jamaluddin, and PKR Director of Strategies, Rafizi Ramli. Taking on a Presidential-style format, the session "Public Policy: Vision 2020 - Is Malaysia Moving Towards the Right Direction?" was civil and diplomatic as the two renowned as passionate voices for their party's causes squared off. They spoke and in several instances agreed on many issues ranging from Vision 2020, party policies, and race relations, to the rights of students to participate in politics, media access and freedom of assembly.
Projek Amanat Negara (PAN) is an annual initiative - this year in its 9th instalment - that serves as a platform for intellectual discourse between leading figures of the political, social and economic fields and Malaysian students. Examining key issues relevant to the governance, development and holistic progress of our country, it has been hugely successful in previous years, even providing the impetus to organise the Malaysian Student Leaders' Summit (MSLS) in Kuala Lumpur annually. This year's conference hosted the likes of Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, YB Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Pang Khee Teik (Seksualiti Merdeka), Karim Raslan, and Zainah Anwar (co-founder of Sisters in Islam) among several others.

We need to have more of this! This is not quite a debate but rather a discussion, brain storming, throwing out ideas, looking at things in different perspectives. Rather than argue for the sake or arguing, they are trying to find and put what is good for Malaysia and Malaysians.
I'm impressed they are willing to agree and disagree on issues, this is the matured and high mentality society we want!

This is 9 yrs ago when I was 13, very young & naive . I watch on apr 2021 and now Iam 22, already a mahasiswa. Very sad that vision 2020 become like this 😢

That's the reality of Malaysian politics nowadays. Hit and miss. But thank God for these two brave and intelligent gentlemen, they face the facts with style and substance. This is the future of Malaysian politics, tailored by the future generation of 2020. Game on.

Rafizi Ramli has better oratory skills than Khairy...Rafizi looked calmer and sounded clearer in his speech...
Rafizi is casual.. even now as minister most of time very casual. KJ is more proper, more refine. Rafizi is good analyst but KJ knows what it takes better solution maker more likeable from bothside party
kj has more to say, even if you watch the segment from ks, you know he has lots of going on in his mind

Personally, this is a balanced debate. Both Rafizi & Khairy managed to bring out the best of their points..and this is exactly that should be emulated by the debates in our Parliament. We do not want the MPs to fight like cats and dogs, and in the end, nothing happens. We want a reform and a change for a better Malaysia, and I have high hopes with the younger generations. So, please youngsters and the youths, esp those from top universities from overseas, contribute back for our nation building!

honestly, i wouldn't really care much of politics, but seriously, after watching, i feel its our duty as the younger generation to actually "know" whats going on, and us consumers, to make our choice in building our nation. i am thrilled to listen to such debates and hope for more of it, just that when i read the comments, i feel we are still far away from being a united nation. rather than playing the blame game, lets build a better malaysia, together as true malaysians

Us as a country, we aren't proactive and are mostly reactive towards situations, particularly in times of crisis. What we lack of is significant intuition.

This debate was organized by UKEC a few years back. It was UKEC that set up this debate, hence, there was no question whether either of them were sent by the respective political party based on their capabilities or positions.

This debate is hundred time better than the LGE/CSL. Most of all, both speakers and audiences are so gentleman and well behave!! Another point, it is sad that our new generation are not able to convey English in such a great manner like the speakers, under our current flip flop education system!! Time to change!!

if i own a tv station in Malaysia, i'll be airing this kind of programe. i'm really sure thousand of viewers will switch to my station, and at the same time, the quality of the governing government will be increase dramatically since lot's of stuff are projected clearly. instead, any politician from any country may use the station as a ground for debating anything they want.
claps mean KJ had charmed the crowd, on the other hand, end of speech by Rafizi met silence because the crowd tend to think and digest his words...
well..eventually crowd will remember points from Rafizi rather than the rambling "dashing" KJ. Kudos to Rafizi.

From the most feedbacks I read from the respondent everyone seemed to be on rafizi's side and As I did....I discovered that rafizi has such strong points that convinced the audience....

Haiyo... Can we judge the debate for what it is? Without considering political affiliation? Whatever your judgement is about who is the better debater, this is the way to the future for Malaysia. People can decide who has the better policies for the man in the streets.

First i have been an opposition supporter since my secondary school days, but i also a keen observer of debates domestic and foreign.
Both speakers are articulate and presented their case with zeal. YB Khairy did very well in the first half hour and Mr. Rafizi came back stronger at the later half especially on tax issues.
Overall, Khairy came out slightly better due to his charisma and his outspokeness against many BN policies which goes down well with the younger audience here.

Yes. Kedua2 nya parti mereka sekarang sudah ade dlm kerajaan. Nak harapkan pembangkang hampeh. Semua pemimpin2 muda dlm pembangkang x pndai bercakap.
I don't know much about politics back then, i admit that, and that's why i was indifferent to it, and i wasn't trying to give excuses, i was implying that the debate was an eye opener..and i'm pretty sure a lot of youths are like me as well, we left malaysia, and we never looked back. partly because of people kept telling us there is nothing or no more future for us here, which i highly disagree, we still can make a future together here, if we all stand together and believe.

1. Despite any political bias I may have, I found this debate refreshing to watch.
2. The students addressed the two as "you guys"! My parents always tried to teach us kids to address people properly but I think my generation doesn't really believe in protocol, eh?
3. En. Rafizi Ramli: Fresh grads do NOT earn RM3000-5000! Some may earn this amount, but most can only wish they earn that much!

KJ's time spent in broadcasting has served him well. very fluent and relaxed speaker. Rafizi is good, definitely going places, and may possibly relate to a "Malay" audience much better..much more down to earth "boy next door" which will be his USP, and will help Pakatan immensely in the heartland, were they need the most help.
di dalam buku "al-Akhlak al-Siyasiyyah Lid Dawlatil islamiyyah Fil Quran was Sunnah" ada menceritakan bagaimana nabi Muhammad s.a.w sebagai ahli politik dan ahli diplomatik:) buku ini menjelaskan bahawa DASAR nabi Muhammad s.a.w dalam politik adalah sesuai untuk setiap zaman dan tempat;) juga merupakan penyelesaian yang praktikal dalam menyelesaikan isu yang berlaku pada kurun ke 21. peace be upon him.
Itulah pentingnya english education.....
