Steelers head coaching gig comes with true job security. 55 years only 3 coaches is unheard of in any major sports.
True something to say about well ran organizations. Ravens have only had 3 total coaches since they’ve been in existence and the Miami heat have had 3 coaches since 1996.
Wait 3 coaches in nearly 60 years? How is that possible?
@@dandrecollier8003 coaches who coached the team for around 20 years each. It's pretty simple
That job security only comes if you uphold the progrum. They've only vetted 3 guys in the last 6 decades that exemplified the Steeler way!! Class

@@paulm5871 Your words tell the real truth. No real Steelers fan calls the team Pitt. That's a college team.
I think re-signing Tomlin was a smart move. Despite having a rough team last year, they still managed a winning season in what's arguably the toughest division in football.
It's not " arguably " it flat out is and has been since 2020...adc north is the only division on the nfl that reg sends 3 teams to playoffs every year or every other year. .
Again its.not close the only divison in lime 15 years to habe all 4 teams over .500....
Afc north WILL send all 4 teams to playoffs this year for the first time in nfl history( if all the qb stay healthy, 3 out of the 4 teams starting qb missed more than 5 games ladt season and 2 out of the 3 went to playoffs ( browns and steelers) ,)
No it's the hardest for the ladt 4 or 5 years and it's not even close
As a MASSIVE steelers fan, i couldn't be happier.

@@elithereaper Eli beat Tom twice. What the hell were the Steelers doing to lose all those games?
Here comes another 9-8 season and wild card lose
Mike tomlin's post season record is super deceptive because after 2010 they have only made it to the afc championship once, and the vast majority of those post season appearances are getting curb stomped in the wildcard or barely winning the wildcard by the skin of their teeth
Facts. People choose to ignore this part.
We play for Super Bowls, not afc champions or the playoffs. If the playoffs is your finish line, you don’t know the Steeler way! Tomlin has never played a snap for the Steelers, but he has coached some subpar teams to winning seasons.
A win is a win doesn't matter if it's by 1 or 100 points
Not a Steelers fan so I have no dog in this fight, but any coach losing his franchise QB is going to have some rough years until he finds that guy again. If I was a Steelers fan I would encouraged that Tomlin doesn't appear stuck in his ways like some other great coaches. The NFL clearly favors a different kind of QB. Not a guy that has to run, but has that ability when necessary. Tomlin found him a cheap vet that used to run and cheap young guy that can run. I imaging he's hoping having them two together shakes out a guy that can, but doesn't have to run to be good. I honestly thought that was Belichicks downfall was he lost Brady and drafted a guy that looked like a younger Brady minus the brain of Brady. I think Tomlin saw that new age QB in Pickett since he ran so well in college, but it never translated to the NFL. Now he's got a couple guys that are that style of QB. Albeit one of them does it a little too much and one of them doesn't do it enough. That said, to keep winning record after losing a franchise QB with teams that don't look like they deserve winning record, yeah only dumb football fans would think the grass is greener on the other side. You could end up with Brandon Staley if he interviews well... or the next Urban Meyer because a great college coach decides he wants to go to the NFL. Unless you Steelers fans got a coordinator or assistant coach who appears to be the heir apparent, I'd take your chances with Tomlin.
It's almost like 3 of the best 6 QBs in history were playing in the AFC at that time..................
I'm one of the fortunate fans that have witnessed all 3 of the coaches you mention , and I'm very happy with the extension. Some fans are just miserable, and love to spread the misery. The fans that make good points about recent successes/failures are hard to argue that point. I think he's done an exceptional job all things considered. Top 2-3 coach in this league .

As a Steelers fan it is what it is but I'm sure if Cowher had Ben his entire career there is at least 1 possibly 2 more Lombardis in that trophy case, that's all he was missing when he coached them they went to 4 conference championships and a superbowl with O'Donnell and Slash and with Ben 2 conference championships appearances in 3 years and a championship. Bill did more with less and Tomlin has done less with more. That 2008 championship team was a team Bill built.
Not with Brady on the other side. I don’t care who was at QB or Coach for the Steelers, Brady and the Pat’s dominated that Conference during Ben’s time. Tomlin wasn’t on the field.
I agree 100%.
@@SteelersStudiothis comment is 1000% spot on. When everyone breaks down their analysis of why Cowher would have won more over Tomlins tenure, they never tend to talk about the competition outside of the organization. The conference has been dominated by top QBs…Brady/Manning the first half of Tomlins tenure, and Mahomes/Burrow/Allen have dominated most recently. Blame the QB play, Kevin Colbert, and Matt Canada for a lot of that. Now i will hold coach Tomlin accountable for not firing Canada sooner. However, Canada was the first coach firing in Pittsburgh since 1941. In all honesty i wasn't a fan of the hiring since he tank LSU offensive identity. But i do blame Mike Tomlin for sacrificing Pittsburgh OC job in return of Canada giving his son a scholarship. Makes you think in today's world who wouldn't do that for their kid.
Yeah the great 9-8 coach, hurrah.
Exactly. 9-8 and not even a whiff of the AFC Championship game. Not gonna happen. Mark my words. See everyone on here in 2026 when Tomlin signs his next lifetime extension after winning zero playoff games. Coach for life!
The Rooney family wants no part in firing Tomlin; they will never fire him. Tomlin runs the organization, hence the problem at large: No accountability. No results. No changes. Key word in your comment is good. Yeah Steelers are good and that's it. That won't change this year.
How do you know he's a good coach? Did he coach you? Whoever accepts the results this team has produced over the past 12 years, and rewards those responsible, is an idiot.
@stevej.1428 this is such a braindead comment. Nobody wants to come up short. But to need to give credit where credit is due. The killer bees rarely played together in the playoffs, killer bee Era defense was trash, we had a lot of controversial calls against the patriots specifically, and we just lost our franchise qb to retirement. Literally between shazier, the o-line, killer bees and big ben, there were things that Tomlin could not control as to why we didn't get one. And yet, in the changing of the guard at qb, defense and rebuilding... we've had 11-0 seasons, made the playoffs with mason Rudolph, won games with mitch trubisky and matt Canada yet you wanna be mad that he didn't win a second ring🤦🏾
I would be upset it wasn't a longer deal.
of course, Pitt has the dumbest fans
If it hadn’t been for Brady, the Steeler’s would have had a couple more rings on the fingers. What the Pat’s did during their run was unthinkable and it affected the Steeler’s accomplishments. Sucks for us fans, but Tomlin has done great and his record is neck and neck with both of his predecessor’s. Good move keeping him, I’m happy about it.
Mike Tomlin reminds me of the Coach for the warriors before Steve Kerr. He won games but they just needed a change in coach to get them that chip

As a fan, I'm happy he's around a little longer. I know a few people who have wanted him fired for a few years now, but when I ask who he should be replaced with, they've never given me a realistic answer. Getting rid of the coach is only half the process.
Good signing. Now we can continue to never have a losing season and never win a playoff game.
Better than never having a winning season and never making the playoffs 🤣🤣
Not really I'm getting blown out horrible draft position every single time in the wild card around I wouldn't say that's what you people should be looking forward to but then again you root for that pathetic team from Pittsburgh and a pathetic City looks like a trash dump
As a Steelers fan who also coaches college football. This was a good move. It’s a boom or bust contract, if they win the Super Bowl he’s in gear to get a bonus. If he busts, they will open it up for another coaching search.

@@jaredboyer8895 probably the top five defenses and the talented skill players? Mason playing good last year definitely helped
@@HOWTOLIFEEEu have problems if you th8nk Mason was anything other than a CFL qb....if tomlinenhas a problem it's having too much loyalty, Mason would habe been gone 4 years ago
@@PatriotWatchUSA once again you’re leaving out crucial context two of the quarterbacks that came in for the guys that were injured played at a good level and we’re winning games versus other contenders so that pretty much means nothing.
I gotta give it to them. They NEVER tanked. 17 years straight means even when they deep down knew that tanking would better them, they refused to not give their all everyday. To tank or "waste a season" would be to corrupt their morals and they stand by what they believe in.
As a Steelers hater I am happy they get another 3 years of mediocrity and no Super Bowl. It really warms the heart.
Now that you've said that, I bet they win a SB this year
With washed Russ and Fields? Nah. You need a QB.@@timsoom7027
Steelers fan and I couldn’t be happier
Tomlin is a goat
Here we go Let’s go Pat sing that 💩💩
Fun fact: if you double tap this comment it will automatically like it
Tomlin has never had a losing season, and that should be respected.
why?
mike T is a great coach, one of these qbs gotta be good
He coached under Dungy in Tampa which is the Chuck Noll tree. That's why he was chosen. Players loved him in Tampa.
7 years, no playoff wins? That’s sad.
11-0: “losing? Never heard of her.”
Ben lost them 2 of those games with all the interceptions.
Ive been a Raider fan for 20+ years and man I would love if we had stability like Pitt has had.
I've been a Steelers fan since 06. I'm going to say what most won't. He should have been fired after losing to Tim Tebow in the playoffs. The only reason he got those 2 SB appearances(1 SB win) is cause he was left with Bill Cowher team(coaches and players). Once everyone left or got old, we haven't done anything meaningful since. We lost are Steel Curtain mindset and honestly I can't even watch a full game. Hopefully Russell Wilson redeems himself. Best thing MT did was get Minkah Fitz and bring in Flores.
It’s either people don’t want to see it or they see it and don’t care because his race….100%.
Getting rid of one of the best coaches in the League won’t suddenly make the Chiefs worse or your division easier. Lock up consistency while you can.
Good move extending Tomlin, and I say that as a Browns fan.
Keeping Tomlin was a great move. Great coach. You aren’t going to just go find that any where.
Tomlin is a good coach. We were always banged up in the playoffs the past decade. It is what it is. Coaches don’t decide who gets injured and who doesn’t.
I'm not surprised by the contract extension. Steelers aren't known for firing Head Coaches.
Wait I live in the city, I don't know of ANYONE that is not happy. WTF is this BS?
I was under the assumption that a winning team needed quality players, since they are the ones actually playing the game. Belichick is a losing coach without Brady, Gronk, Edelman and those great O and D lines. Reid coached 19 players to 44 probowl appearances and still couldn't win a championship in Philly. At the end of the day, the players are the star athletes and have to get the job done.
Any "steelers fan" that isnt happy about mike tomlin extension is not a steelers fan and might i say not an nfl fan. My guy has never had a losing season
Mike Tomlin is a good coach. I am frustrated Steelers haven’t had a playoff win since I graduated high school. My gut tells me in the next two-three years they will get another Ring!
I’m a browns fan, we have had 53 coaches in 3 years 😂
Tomlin has been nothing but mediocre since he came in. People are going to say “he won a Super Bowl” but a toddler could’ve head coached that 09 team to win a Super Bowl. That was one of the greatest teams in nfl history. He’s been riding on incredibly talented players and defensive coaches his whole career.
Haha, the song and the immediate descension into negativity had me rolling. Easily the most fun show to watch for NFL news and opinions (and anything else too)!
Man, this is getting crazy; Rich Eisen does nothing but talk about his Jets and now Pat can't stop talking about his hometown team.
if i have to watch at the end of the year sitting on the end of my chair hoping for this team to lose and these 2 teams to win and this team to tie, SOME THING IS WRONG!!! FIRE TOMLIN!!!
Miami heat only had 6 head coaches total in the nba
Anybody from Pittsburg or Pennsylvania for that matter outta be unhappy, crappy state!
'HERE WE GO" LMAO love it!!!!!!!
1 win in 17 years....the new standard of excellence...
Other people has said it 3 or 4 years ago, but now I'll say it. If he doesn't, at bare minimum, win a playoff game, this is Coach Tomlin's last extension with the Steelers
Agree. I know the Steelers don’t fire people, but this three-year deal smells like a two-year 'show me' (or, this being Tomlin, 'remind us'). It shows respect, but I think there's urgency with it.
As a bills fan I can say a post franchise QB is always tough and steelers are just going through what we did and now Ha the Fin patriots thank God
Cept the steelers didn't suck ass for 15 years like the bills cuz tomlin is a great coach..
Thank tyrod Taylor for breaking the bills playoff curse( never forget)
Citizen of Steeler Nation for 51 years. I'm all the way Team Tomlin!
