It's amazing how when your random old stereo malfunctions you can just search for it on youtube and find the perfect solution and then go fix it. Bless you for this video.

The same blink code and the same defective capacitor on the Sharp XL-UH2000H! (Identical power supply!)
Thank you for the schematic and the solution to the problem! (Thanks to you I save myself the reverse engineering!)

it's amazing that a little tiny cap can cause the whole unit to not start up....you have such a good skill set :)

I am ordering these caps without even thinking twice. I fully trust your expertise.

Why this capacitor has gone faulty like that? Is it a matter of temperature? Of duration of use in its lifetime? Of over/under-voltage?
Would there be a solution to limit the effects by using any of the following :
      - add a TVS in parallel?
      - add a ceramic capacitor to filter high frequency voltage spikes?
      - replace the original 1000uF/16V by another 1000uF but with a higher Vrating?
      Thanks.

Alright! Just to tell you that I have received the parcel early this afternoon. I have then checked the schematics of my Sharp XL-UR250H and the location of the equivalent cap. I replaced the original 1000uF/6.3V/85'C with a 1000uF/10V/105'C, so that the capacitance remains high enough at the specific voltage and having 105'C instead of 85'C will give a higher longevity. Let's cross fingers now.🤞
Thank you so very much indeed, dear expert!

I had a unit, same model with same problem and the 1000 uf cap fixed it. Thanks for the video. I have been to many tech seminars over the years and you conducted this one better then any I recall. I followed your troubleshooting step by step and got the same out come.

My unit with the same problem, same capacitor. Planned obsolescence or design flaw?
I think it's better to replace it with 10v capacitor instead of 6.3v.

Seems I am having this problem, hope my husband can fix it because I love my stereo. He bought it for me and the speakers have the cool blue lights in them.

My daughter has one similar to this. Its problem is after it plays a disk for around 20 minutes the cd player starts skipping and then the machine goes into standby. Any clue what may be the problem? Thanks. Tom

Thank you! Can you come over to fix mine? 😃😃😃 I see a similar looking unit: Sharp XL-BH250(GL) Limited Edition for $150 new. Do you know if this would be a good replacement? I think the cost of repair would be as much.

I replaced mine but now I don’t even have power. Any suggestions?

Those STK amplifier modules were terrible for their output stage going bad and then then the system being stuck in protection mode because of it.
