I have a letter of rec from a Vice President of a really big company I interned at , I also have another one from a congressman where I also interned. Would this be good for colleges and how good.

Hi Princeton Review, I am not sure whether sending electronic edition will ruin my credibility? Because some of my teachers suggest me to submit an hard copy with the signature.

Hey Princeton Review, do you recommend us asking for recommendation letters from our personal tutors or teachers? For example, I have a math tutor and a piano teacher who I feel I have a great connection with.

Great question! We'd advise checking the guidelines for each school. (In general, rec letters come from in-school teachers, but your circumstances may dictate otherwise.) If the guidelines don't specify, you can always reach out to the admission office to inquire. Some schools will also allow you to submit, in addition to rec letters from your high school teachers, supplementary letters from teachers/tutors who instruct you outside of school (within reason: you wouldn't want to submit an additional dozen letters!). Again, we'd suggest checking to see the policies for individual schools. You can also ask your counselor about your specific situation. Best of luck to you! We're cheering you on.

since i am a international student and here in Brazil we don't have this rec letters culture, i had no connection with any teacher in my school so i have no one to ask. what do you advice me to do?

Great question! We'd advise checking with individual college admission offices about their policies. Many colleges will allow (or even encourage!) you to submit a supplementary rec letter from an instructor with whom you've worked closely, even if that recommender does not teach you in school. Each admission office will be able to tell you its policies. Best of luck to you!

My recommender submitted the letter with wrong spelling of the institution's name in which she herself teaches. She put "Khlasa college" in place of "Khalsa college". Is this going to count against me for graduate admission in any Canadian university?
