    Q: My stitches are skipping BIG?
    A: Could be many things. Here are some major culprits.
    1. Try a new needle.
    2. Is needle sitting up "snug" where it should be?
    3. I use a topstitch 80/12 needle(good % of quilters use this but it's not the only option of course).
    4. Thread -try a dif thread (thread does go bad).
    5. A lot of quilters use cotton thread but I personally use "Superior Polyester Thread" (cotton "drags" in my machine).
    6. Adjust your foot height- you don't want it smashing your fabric/but you don't want it too high either....just hover over fabric.
    7. Your hand speed and foot pedal speed should be in balance....slowing your hands to meet your foot speed could be the problem.
    8. If your fabrics are really thick then this could cause skipping...try going at a "snail pace" for a minute and see if the skipping stops..if so then that is the reason.
    Q: How much fabric do I need for sashing?
    A: I'm thinking no more than 1.5 -2 yards for sashing and binding ✅ 5 yards for the front and 5 yards for the back✅ For batting I bought a "full" size package✅

    You are already much better ar Free Motion Quilting than I will ever be. However, I was thinking that you (and I) could try Free Motion Quilting large Dahlia blooms. On large Dahlia bloom with a few leaves on each block. My late Mother use to grow Dahlias. Some of her Dahlias had blooms as big as dinner plates. Your quilting is beautiful. You are getting me interested in trying Free Motion Quilting again.

    Hi Tracy, still haven't tried this yet on my new machine. I do like your flower block, that would make a cute quilting for my great granddaughter's quilt, maybe change it up with loops or swirls for a whole quilt look. Will have to practice it though. I love feathers, will have to practice that one too.

    I do not free motion, but it sure looks pretty. I’ll be interested in how you sew them altogether. I had bought a big box of fabric at an estate sale years back and found white quilted blocks like these, but they are hand quilted. I had a friend tell me I had to sew them a special way to connect them, but I haven’t done it yet. So I’m hoping when you sew your blocks together it will help me get a better idea how I can sew the ones I have.

    Tracy: You have A LOT more courage than I do to attempt the heart feather! IMHO it came out great, regardless of your not hitting your marks! Never seen the FMQ flowers before, but they are so very cool!!! Would be a neat way to quilt a girl's or baby girl's quilt since the flowers can be variable sizes. Can't wait to try the flowers but I'm still too afraid to try a heart feather. One day in the future.... Thank you again for another fantastic video!!!! 💗👍🏻⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BTW: Any FMQ ideas for quilting a boy's quilt? You always have such great ideas! 🍼

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *_You definitely should try the flowers Dori✅The heart feather was very challenging for me 🙃But I got through it LOL. A boy's quilt....now that's got me thinking 🤔Maybe a basketball...baseball (easy enough). You could fmq some bats and baseballs...I'll have to give it a try✅_*

    Hi Tracy, I forgot my plan of fqm these blocks.. My big machine is in for service right now so I’m using my feather weight so I can continue to sew, thank God I have some spares or I’d go nuts, or possibly go down the you tube rabbit hole.. 😳😬😆 I’ll probably do these on the blocks I’m making whenever I get that back. 🙃 How many ppl are making these? Isn’t it fun seeing them? Are they emailing you with them? I haven’t caught up on videos.. 😬 I know I’ve missed some from everyone I follow. Anyway, have a wonderful week. 🥰 Chris
