The guitarists on Martha Velez’s Fiends and Angels are Eric Clapton and Paul Kossoff (Free). Other notables are Jack Bruce, Christine McVie and Brian Auger.
Hi Dillon, just watched you video and then listened to some Stark Reality - wow, great psych stuff as you recommended. Certainly takes away those Coronavirus blues. Hope that your record shop is still open, take care and stay safe. Nearly in lock down over here in Blighty but stiff upper lip in operation. Cheers, Paul from England
Wow , You are the only person I have ever heard , mention Bob Smith The Visit. Very rare and wonderful record. I used to make videos for The VC years ago. I enjoy your videos and enthusiasm. Great records.
You introduced me to Townes Van Zandt in this video Dillon. Listening to him I feel the same pause I felt when I heard Jim Croce. This is going to be become one of the top artists of my life man, thank you *edit - it’s been years since the glasses in your logo was lore accurate dude! You could use an updated logo
OAR is a gem. I believe Skip was schizophrenic, and that drove him to self medicate, alot, a whole lot, and then some more. One could argue that this album was the first of it's kind in the sense that it is all Skip. He composed all of the songs, plays all of the instruments and does all of the vocals on this album; which was an astonishing feat given the technology of the time. This could be viewed as the first lowfi lp. It was remastered with additional tracks for RSD a year or two ago. I snatched it up. On 2019, Black Friday RSD this album, track for track, done in covers was released. Sadly, I missed out on that release. Skip was a musicians musician. You can never forget his tune, Little Hands Clapping. F'n genius. I love this album.
I picked up Ore at a garage sale last summer, condition is not perfect but still sounds decent. Cover is in great shape. Love the album and was shocked to find it at a garage sale of all places.
Skip Spence’s Oar album is the greatest! I believe he recorded it at RCA and rode his motorcycle back to California after and I believe he lived in Santa Cruz CA for his last years. Great Baritone voice, if you like him and want a beautiful baritone voice go down the Scott Walker Rabbit Hole!
Believe it or not, an Australian big band jazz funk LP from 1972 sampled by hip hop artists: The Exciting Daly Wilson Big Band featuring Kerrie Bidell. Try the track Limp Dropper.
* Dylan saying “I need/needed,” etc. reminds me of my wife saying “Oh, you NEEDED that record” when we we were first married. * I hear Skip Spence and think of Syd Barrett more than Nick Drake, but I’ll take it. * Those who like Moon Blood by Fraction might seek out other Christian rock grails like the eponymous albums by The Exkursions and Rainbow Promise.
OAR is every psych collectors dream! I still want a USA with brown paper cover. It's hard. Imports before the internet are so rare if they weren't released here in the US. I love my Blood Moon reissue. Lots of good stuff! Alexander Spence! Damn!
Not sure if you’ve got plans to do one or even done it already, but how about a top 20 essential soundtrack albums.. so many really interesting multi artist and single artist ones to cover..
I do have the USA radio station promo mono copy as well as a regular stereo copy.....this album is a ripper....total ripper!!!!!!!! easily one of the best psych Lps ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That Page Plant was pressed (in the USA) with a serious error. One of the sides was duplicated so we lost few songs. Look into it. I've yet to find a USA press that is correct (but have not looked for a non-USA press). It bummed me out hard but I think we only lost out on like 3 songs.
Also, back in the early 2000s I used to frequent a message board called SoulStrut (it still exists, it just isn't nearly what it was back then). It was pretty much THE place for hardcore record diggers as far as funk/soul/jazz, etc. Monty Stark, the guy behind Stark Reality, used to post on there. Super nice guy.
“No Quarter” and “Walking Into Clarksdale”. Are my grails. Curious do you have the “Almost Famous” soundtrack? That is my ultimate grail It’s my favorite movie because Zeppelin is referenced through out
Trips, bad trips, from the 60s? Well who would have seen that coming. I have the CD of Oar as it is considered an essential album. TVZ is very good, I have a few of his albums and really enjoy them. I did not know the Emerson store, very interesting. Zep bootlegs, wonderful. Sea Change is also one of my favorite records, amazing stuff. Cool autographed record. Love to see you back in THE CHAIR.
Are you familiar with Cowboys Junkies' Black Eyed Man album? They recorded a song Townes wrote fpr them (Cowboy Junies Blues) and they wrote a song for him (Townes' Lament). Fantastic record!
Page and Plant went on a tour for that Album, they played Jacksonville and they played all Zeppelin tunes . They only played one track from WIC. They also had a second guitar player?
The record store I work at got a near mint copy of an emerson pressing of vu&n about half a year ago. Even though we priced it at 200$ (crazy i know, but the thing looked like you just opened it for the first time) and it sold in the first 2 days of getting it in.
Just spent top-dollar on what must be one of the only near-mint copies of Oar still available. I was pretty well aware of Skip, Moby Grape, and Oar. I think Skip is the American Syd Barrett, but I will listen to Oar far above anything Syd did -- no offense to Syd or fans, he is great and wonderful as well. Thanks, Noble Records, for the tips on all these other obscure classics! From Chris, Owner of Wonderland Music, Dunsmuir, Calif.
Dang, tons of great recommendations man! Time to go check a lot of these out....especially looking forward to Stark Reality haha. Mordicai Jones....nice! Been wanting that one for a while! That Human Instinct boxset looks sweet...I did not know that existed but I'm thinking that's my better route than plunking down for Stoned Guitar OG....since that's in the boxset...nice! I just picked up a Dennis Coffee Hair and Thangs reissue...holy crap that album is amazing. Pretty amazing additions of late 60's early 70's hard rock / psych rock / blues rock etc....I've been zoned in on that stuff lately and there is so much out there :)
Dude, this alphabet song "All You Need To Make Music" has me cracking up.....such killer guitar riffs and such a trippy sound....can you imagine him performing this for a group of kids at the library all sitting pretzel legged....they'd be crying and running for their parents haha!
Is your collection worth more than 10 cents per pound total weight and how many ton's do you own and how do you store all that weight, do you own more than one storage space?
Dillon, anyone who has watched your videos will know that if he sends you a record you want, it's almost certain he will eventually receive an even better one in the mail. You have to be careful with audiophile pressings - sometimes the original pressing is better. I have heard some really strange-sounding audiophile pressings that makes you wonder what they were thinking.
Almost none of these recorded would be interesting to me - except Mono mix of The United States of America! No surprise because no two record collectors enjoy the same records or have the same records in their collection! Some collectors just collect "trophy's" - promos and autographed LPs, others like me only collect music they like to listen to! No British 1960s beat 45s here!
Love the early 70’s finds, listened to Bullett on TH-cam
West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band on Reprise records. The first three are some of the best Psych...ever. Their story is amazing, too.
Really love Vol. 3
Mr. DILLON always enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing
I feel like I'm getting educated on music. I love your channel! Stay safe!
Oh yeah that's what I enjoy the most about this channel and inspires me to visit the store some day.
enjoy the Townes (its a little rough I know), no rush on one for me. stay safe out there. AB
That's a pretty cool surprise gift. You should post videos of your record collection
The guitarists on Martha Velez’s Fiends and Angels are Eric Clapton and Paul Kossoff (Free). Other notables are Jack Bruce, Christine McVie and Brian Auger.
Townes VanZandt - a true TEXAS treasure!!❤
Skip Spence is mastermind who left an amazing album ❤
Lots and lots of heat! I don’t care how long the video is...I always watch every minute my friend! Keep on spinnin’!
Sea change brings me back to my childhood. My dad used to play it when I would sit in the living room, playing with playmobil for hours on end.
Heavy Guitar jazz? Victim's Family - Voltage and Violets. Mind blowing.
Love your videos. I think it would very interesting if you could elaborate on the method/methods you use to keep your collection organized.
Skull Snaps. one of the most sampled records in hiphop history.
*writes this down*
If vinyl is king this guy is an emperor
Thanks for sharing.. Such good stuff
I have a 10” acetate of the Moby Grape ‘Motorcycle Irene’ song. Looks like it belonged to Skip Spence.
I grew up in New Zealand & i thought outside of NZ i was the only one who new about The Human Instinct, great find.
Great stuff as always man
Hi Dillon, just watched you video and then listened to some Stark Reality - wow, great psych stuff as you recommended. Certainly takes away those Coronavirus blues. Thanks for the Skip Spence recommendation! Keep rockin' Dillon.
Wonderful video! Sweet Physical Graffiti promo. Congrats on getting that Van Zandt grail.
What a great haul, so many I need for my collection. That fraction is truly a face melter
OAR is every psych collectors dream! I still want a USA with brown paper cover. It's hard. Imports before the internet are so rare if they weren't released here in the US. I love my Blood Moon reissue. Lots of good stuff! Alexander Spence! Damn!
Thanks mate I enjoy your videos so much, we need you man.
Thanks man! That means a lot!
Had OAR back in the day - on Spotify. Had United States too - tracks on TH-cam.
Not sure if you’ve got plans to do one or even done it already, but how about a top 20 essential soundtrack albums.. so many really interesting multi artist and single artist ones to cover..
I would love to find Dolly Rocker Movement on bad afro, ever see one?
Dennis Coffey is Detroit, he was an essential member of the Funk Brothers.
Your alive! Nice update... Recently picked up a Catapilla LP and think you had recommended some time ago... 👍
Martha Velez ‘Fiends & Angels’ has Eric Clapton on some tracks.
my favorite vinyls are: circus maximus, sandy bull, moondog, stuff,
I do have the USA radio station promo mono copy as well as a regular stereo copy.....this album is a ripper....total ripper!!!!!!!! easily one of the best psych Lps ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazin !
I think Clapton played on the Martha Velez album
A friend of mine found two OG copies of Start Reality at Goodwill for something like 79 cents a piece ages ago.
Sick dude. Glad I got the Record store day version of Alexander skip spence-oar.
I reckon you would really dig (if you don't know it already) Link Wray's older brothers album from 1972,
Vernon-Wray-Wasted.
Check out Jerry Riopelle he played NYEve in Phx Az for 40 years hes allkso the inventer of THE HUMANBEAMS you will not be disapointed

Dennis “Duct-Tape” Coffey! Yeah!!!
The record store I work at got a near mint copy of an emerson pressing of vu&n about half a year ago. Even though we priced it at 200$ (crazy i know, but the thing looked like you just opened it for the first time) and it sold in the first 2 days of getting it in.
I would have bought that in a heartbeat! That’s a great deal.
I believe Paul Kossoff of Free is one of the guitar players on the Martha Velez album....

It's kind of scary how similar our taste in music -from Link to Townes and Skip ...
That Lee Moses is a bangin album
Muito bom seus vídeos. Tenho encontrado muitos discos bons aqui. Linda coleção.
Do you know Scott Walker?
You should try to seek out Link Wray's brother Vernon Wray's album Wasted. Phenomenal country record, but very pricey and rare.
I know you were trying to get through records quickly, but in case you didn't know, Fuse was Rick Nielsen's band before Cheap Trick
12 minutes in (of 28)... "I don't want this video to be tooooooo long..., but..." 😆💓

I really like your videos! I just started making videos about vinyl too! Great community on TH-cam!
Have you heard Beck's cover l.p of this with other artist Oar''
