I was in Nepal in 1975 (& 81, 84, 86 & 2011) and this well done video is a wonderful reminder of how strange, wonderful, beautiful and mystical and quiet it all was back then. I have very few photos from then so this is excellent. Modern visitors don't realize how different it was, though all the major sights are still there, 20 yrs. of civil war & anarchy have changed it greatly.

What a beautiful peaceful place Kathmandu was !! I was there in 1999 cycling right across nepal from banbussa in the west up to pokhara and then across to kathmandu and then down again exiting at karkabita into west Bengal.
There were quite a few guest houses and a few of the old original farmsteads in the fields above fewa lake but you could basically walk from your $1 dollar a night guesthouse through the fields to fewa lake ,fastforward to 2015 and you can count on the fingers of one hand the number of old rustic farmstteads that have survived ,and barely a square metre of land has been spared down to fewa lake just a mass of concrete hotels ,so so sad ,kathmandu was then a very polluted noisy crowded south Asian city it' was that multiplied by 10 in 2015 , I guess they need to go to work feed their families etc ..
Kathmandu in 1970 looks amazing !peaceful, uncrowded, simple, happy and very mystical and charming , sadly you cant turn back the clock ,what a time to be travelling !!!!
God bless nepal and it's great people!!
