I was working in the city in 1999 and I had an argument with a recruitment agent who was trying to send me for an interview for a 15 grand job and I said minimum 22 grand is what I was looking for. He actually hung up on me and was furious. 6 years later in 2005 this song came out and I still am pretty sure it was about me and this conversation I had with this angry recruitment agent.
the clash started in 76' but disbanded in 86'. You could probably consider them both. Come to think of it I would say their best work came from the 70's.
@@Y0utubeIsFuckingHomo man isn't saying its "hyper produced or technical" the single is distinctly different, with a different bridge/instrumental section. Get a clue before running your mouth of like an idiot.
Another band that wont get the fame they deserve its great to see bands like this that are brave enough to do there own thing but we are going to be stuck listening to bed wetter bands like snow patrole, coldplay and the new style Kings of leon.
60 wow, you legend & The video is going to be cack because it's a B-Side.. You know what they say about B-Sides 'put the least amount of effort as you can into it and go home'
this may well be a stupid comment, but i'd move to the uk just for the fuckin music i don't know what's the matter with that small part of the world that produces great bands, i just know i wanna be near it
The fact that this has never been reuploaded or taken down after 17 years is incredible. I probably gave this video 5 stars back in ‘06 😂
5 stars out of a hundred seems reasonable.

Hahahaha amazing😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
How old where you back in 99
@@bebolino100 20!
What were you supposed to do? 😂
Average inflation rate of 2.9% per year since 2005, that would be around £30,500 in 2017. Thats alright.
Sounds nice...
Still the same I'm afraid!
IN THE CITY IS ALRIGHT
It’s alright...
@Dan Iturbe I was thinking of is Ng it in a movie script I am writing where this title was code for an assassin to do a hit. .22 , grand job.
Those days I loved every song and band I heard. I used to love my life...
You ok ?
Seen your comment! Concerning
Same . Seemed like it was always summer n every band was brilliant
I feel the same x
It’s the beauty and innocence of being young
And… it’s 2024… and I still love this song
At the time I worked in the west end and I was on 25k so I thought I was doing REALLY alright whenever I heard this song.
Love his little dance moves.
I will never get tired of this song! I just love it!!
God bless The Rakes!
I love that song !!
In concert, it is absolutely fabulous !
One of my favourite songs ever!!!
This song is awesome. the video is even better.
Fantastic vid! They were amazin live, the best gig ive been 2, and this video is unbeatable. totally love them :)
Mid-noughties post-punk-revival nostalgia.
I so need to work in an office like that...
I'd work in that office for 2 grand.
Love the clumsy drumroll at the beginning...lol
"Any Ideas for a video lads?" "Erm, Hot Office Babez please?"
Thank you, Microsoft Zune. This was a much much appreciated discovery!!
i love this song!
Nostalgic. Great song!!!
i havent seen this in a long time :) great song, this is. :)
the clash started in 76' but disbanded in 86'. You could probably consider them both. Come to think of it I would say their best work came from the 70's.
Love dis song!
Funny video, love the song x
thanks emerson, i love music that makes me feel good. good on you mate.

Super awesome!
that's not sad. that is awesome!
the rakes are fuckkking superb!
The Rakes were great!
14 years later and still I'm earning significantly less that 22k :
one of the best indie anthems ever
Ah, the days when TH-cam vids didn't look like movies and music was good.
GREAT!
22 Grand Pod brought me here.
I can't even get a 22 grand job, in the city or anywhere!!
Brilliant!!
hahahahahahahahaha ive never thought of that. can wait to see them in glasgow, such an underated band
I am haunted by how old this comment is. Its like I'm from the future.
A 22 grand job in 2005, with inflation, would be worth about £37k today.
Right? 22k today would mean poverty in the city.
Shit! I miss them! I was so devastated when they split up :(
Do this video remind anyone of the one for Dark of the Matinee? The dancing is what I'm referring to here.
Quality song! Prefer the album version, but this was a great indie band, well missed
Pipedown That's the whole point of punk/garage rock or w/e you want to call it. It's not supposed to be hyper produced or technical.

The lead singer ended up working in a ‘22 grand job in the city’ incidentally
Inflation calculator: £22,000 in 2005 is worth £42,028.96 today
Used to love these back in the day, seen them live but what they doing now???
+IamKevinFinnerty www.nme.com/features/10-years-on-what-are-the-stars-of-2005-indie-doing-now
Broke Up For Good Alas...
Reminds me of mtv 2 when it was good
Great group great songt
i wanna work in that city for a while...
THE RAKES!!
love this song. every year 22 grand sounds worse and worse though haha
Now it needs to be "It's alright 82 grand job"
What haopened to the rakes? Loved their debut album
Me encanta este tema =D
hier wäre ich auch gerne mal der bürohengst ;)
In the city, it's allright.
Indeed.
They rules!
22 grand in 2006, with 3% inflation over 6 years is a 26 grand job in 2012. :)
love this songgg
zz
I would take that job, even for the the small amount of 22 grand. The company is appealing to me ;)
220K job in the city it's bloody spiffing Nigel
Another band that wont get the fame they deserve its great to see bands like this that are brave enough to do there own thing but we are going to be stuck listening to bed wetter bands like snow patrole, coldplay and the new style Kings of leon.
para levantar la mañana
reminds me of working in topman back in 06
wow this was a bit different from the album version. album didn't have the guitar solo part. and this version had louder distorted guitar chords.
WHAT!?!?! oh my goodness, please send me that cover! MAXIMO PARK COVERED THE RAKES!?! pleeeaaassee, i HAVE to hear this!
22 grand won’t even fill your petrol tank now boys
60 wow, you legend
& The video is going to be cack because it's a B-Side.. You know what they say about B-Sides 'put the least amount of effort as you can into it and go home'
The irony is that this blokes probably now working in the city....
Still relevant in 2022.
If only they'd adjusted for inflation.
@HerrHorst303
"birds"
I love that place you come from.
kill me if i work like this everyday ..it's no fun to live like this.....
22 grand aswell
and the rakes play while you work
0:16 He's got the same eyes as Paul McCartney! :)
18 years later... 22 grand job, yeah it's alright
does anyone know ANY of the names of those chicks?
This has to be the best video ever!
2024 version: 22 grand job in the city that's quite shite
22 pence job
Jack wills sent me ;)
super song, i love the sound of the bass guitar. What is the amplifier the bassist is using? ampeg ?
he he..in the city its far from being fucking alright...
this may well be a stupid comment, but i'd move to the uk just for the fuckin music
i don't know what's the matter with that small part of the world that produces great bands, i just know i wanna be near it
stilosissimi
lmao, great song xD
Shame the song is so short! 22-grand budget not enough I suppose.
Adjusted for inflation, it should be 62 grand job...
These dudes still jamming?
18 years ago? Fucking hell
what happened to the rakes?
Ironically a 22 grand job today wouldn't even sustain you in the city.
Just found this band... love it, any OTHER recomendations?
The Young Knives
I just don’t fire people unless they quit……. Said mr bear……
The Rakesy Alan Dance!!!
merci moto journal!
Jarvis Cocker and Dave Rowntree

£22000 is now below minimum wage in the UK 😮
