Didn't realise the printer was released back then. @ year ago I listened to Behind the Shot and said I'll get one and still not got one and Watched Behind the Shot this week in Lockdown here in NZ, after printing on my canon pro 9500 and Steve Brazill's enthusiasm I tried to by one. But not till we are in level 3, but Auckland will be in Level 4 for a few more weeks 🤨
How does it travel with out all the tape and the printer head along with the cartridges fitted
It's that I travel a bit and I'd want to take the printer with me

Thanks for this Rusty. I just got a full replacement of my Pro1000 from Canon. My first one was still on warranty. I got a B506 message on the LCD screen and a very troubling chattering sound from the print head. Canon support didn't have a clear answer as to what B506 meant. Thanks Paul. I'll be doing more vids and some more info coming on the blog (www.RustyNelsonblog.com) about the printer and Print Studio Pro. Found out a bunch of info from Canon about working with and printing differences if you are through Photoshop or Lightroom. May not be all videos. Hopefully it will spark some conversation about the printer in the remarks. I was really surprised by how much CO "ink" there was left in the cartridge.

  • @mabehall7667
    @mabehall7667 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Rusty, This was a great video--one of the best on setting up the Pro-1000 and the one I used for info when I set mine up. I know it is not something you covered but wish someone had put out the information on how much ink this printer waste. It puts a fraction of the ink on paper that it uses cleaning and all that goes to the waste ink cartridge. I have done most of the things to minimize this but still the unit waste 7-10 times the ink it is putting on paper. This is a huge cost! This printer should be advertised as a production unit only, not for someone who wants to make 3-7 prints per week. When I use up the 2nd set of inks that I purchased, I will probably use this printer as a boat anchor and get an Epson P-800. I'll come out ahead on cost very quickly. The 3-4 ml of ink the Epson printer uses to swap black and matt black is nothing--I repeat--nothing compared to what the Pro-1000 waste every day!

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography
      @RustyNelsonPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the kind words. I wish I had the real story for you, but I can't find a "true cost" for the inks but I did find this for you. I have not run actual test. Remember I do not get paid by anybody. Fro knows best did a cost doing a print with the pro 1000 on Red River paper and Red River did a cost of ink with the p800. Here are the links.
      Fro froknowsphoto.com/the-exact-cost-of-an-inkjet-photo-revealed/
From Red River. www.redrivercatalog.com/epson-surecolor-p800-cost-per-print.htmldraw your own conclusions folks.
Trust me...I'm not arguing with you. They all seem to use a bunch to me. But here are somethings Ihave found about the Canon that may help.
Also these are not really direct comparisons. I wish I could find one. But Canon does supply the software to figure
it out…I do not use it.
      1. I have been told by the Canon folks that you can use the Ink cart all the way down until it stops. That is what I do. It will tell you the ink is low. From experience...there is a ton of ink left at that point and I just use this as a warning to make a new order for that color. Once the ink is out...the printer will stop. They do not
tell you this in the manual. BUT...they told me this when talking to them. Up to you.
      2. Take a print and run a test on your quality settings. If you do not need "highest" quality don't use it.
If anybody has any information on this subject, please feel free to just jump in and help. BUT...you need to show the documentation and not just slam one printer or the other.

Rusty, I did not offer a lot of proof in the comment above and for that I apologize. I don't troll companies or products and you'll notice I always use my name. Rather than produce a new list here, I'll just copy the info I sent to Canon. I have seen little or no change in consumption since this info was sent. Typical was the other day when I made a print 43 hours after the last print, used 0.602 ml on paper but consumed 5 ml of ink. In the write up below, please pay attention to the 6 min. cleaning cycle that reportedly uses 59ml of ink. This happened to me even though I had printed the day before and did not request a cleaning cycle--I just hit print. I am not including a link to a forum on Luminous Landscape where a man confirmed it has happened twice to him--he does appear to be a commercial printer though and still sees a waste to print ink ratio of about 50-50. This printer is just not for hobbyist or enthusiastic armatures--I put my self between these two.
      Thanks, Mabe Hall
One last note: I have found that the initial fill cartridges hold around 86 ml of ink yet--this doesn't affect my overall calculations.
The following was sent to Canon.
The Problem: Unbelievable high ink waste
I have called support twice, received some ideas and then taken my Pro-1000 to a Canon authorized repair place as recommended by Canon. The repair center found nothing wrong. 1st let's review my problem and how I use my printer:
      1. I leave my printer on at all times (it may have had 3-4 on/off power cycles shortly after commissioning but after that it stayed on until I took it to the repair facility.
      2. Knowing that cleaning cycles happen if the printer is not used: With 5-10 exceptions I printed something within 48 hours of the last print--at a minimum a nozzle check. I don't believe I ever exceeded 5 days without printing something. All nozzle checks have been perfect. All prints have been perfect.
      3. I have never self initiated a cleaning cycle of any kind.
      4. I know the unit consumes a lot of ink to fill the lines at commissioning---50% of total ink capacity or a little less. I use 50% for evaluation of my problem.
      5. I originally had my printer connected over Wi-Fi but at your help desk recommendation due to low signal strength I changed to USB. This appears to not have helped.
      6. I now realized this is happening to others, maybe everyone, and I am sure Canon knows about it.
      7. Right now I have not installed a 2nd set of ink cartridges but I have purchased them. I am afraid to see another major ink dump. I have never moved the printer while plugged in and moved it only to take to the service center. No ink spilled.
      8. Including this printer, additional ink cartridges, Canon Paper, and maintenance cart I have invested well over $2000.
Now let's look at what I am seeing. These numbers are based on the 1st 93 days of operation and consumption figures are from the Account Management Software.
      1. All my ink cartridges read low. My waste maintenance tank indicates almost full.
      2. There was a big jump from 3 cartridges low to all low after some type of major cleaning event---see attached video of similar event and thread from dpreview.
      3. At 93 days, I had made only 50 prints using only 35 ml of ink to print these.
      4. Not included in the accounting software are the calibration prints--about 5, and the nozzle checks--5-10. To be conservative let's say another 5 ml. for a total of 40 ml used in printing.
      5. TOTAL INK CONSUMED AT 93 DAYS WAS 887 ml. !!!!!!! Now after 2 additional prints of less than .5 ml each and the service center-- 900 ml. !!!!
      5. The 12 cartridges hold a total of 960 ml or ink (some people say 82 ml each giving 984)
      6. Now, if the initial commissioning uses more than 50% of total ink say 85%, I can understand but this is not what others are reporting.
With the numbers concerning the use of ink, it becomes evident that this printer is seriously flawed or has a serious problem. It is hard to believe Canon put this printer on the market operating like this. One reason I chose this printer over the Epson P-800 was the Epson wasted 3.7 ml. of ink changing from Matt Black to PK black. 3.7 ml is NOTHING compared to the ink waste I and others are seeing. See the dpreview thread discussing this problem. One person has already sold his unit--I believe doing so without telling about the problem would be unethical. One knowledgeable person says one should expect $300 per year in waste ink cost. This is just not acceptable!
I purchased this printer from B&H Photo. Before I go back to them I would like to discuss with someone in Canon what can be done here. Please call me at 512-670-7445 or give me a time and number when I can call.
      Sincerely,
      Mabe Hall

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography
      @RustyNelsonPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

There are a bunch of things that can go wrong but my first guess would be that you have not turned off the "printer manages". This would mean that you have double "managed" the color. Being that I have no idea HOW you are printing...software...computer...setup etc... make sure you have the color correction in maunual setup in the driver set to "NONE".

Rusty. When we print a photo when there is black the ink on our Canon pro 1000 does not dry. The colored inks come out dry but black is always smearable even after many many days. We are using Canon paper. I talked to Canon but so far no answer from the. Have you ever had that problem or know what the problem may be. We are light users and the ma home and original ink is about 2 years old.

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography
      @RustyNelsonPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hate to say it but so many variables so I will hit a bunch.
1 Wrong side of the paper? sometimes this can happen.
      2. Did you try more than one type of paper? Matte gloss
3 are you using both types of inks by selecting a different media type?
4 Try printing a print on plain paper and let the printer manage. see what happens.
5 was it always doing this? or did it just start happening without changing paper or settings?
Is it still the original ink...did you get it on sale someplace?
Sorry for all the questions and no this has never happened to me
BUT would love it if somebody else has...chime in

    Hello,
I recently purchased a Pro-1000 and have been unable to install the drivers on Windows 10.
The software/driver package fails saying something along the lines of "Installation failed. IJ Driver could not be installed."
The driver install fails saying "An error occurred while files were being copied. : 0001 0002"
I contacted Canon and they said this is a known issue and they do not have a fix.
Before I return this thing I was wondering if you had heard of similar errors? Canon doesn't seem to pay much attention to their software.

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography

I have not had that problem. I would call them back. Make sure you are talking to an uplevel tech in the US before you get off the phone. I would also search around the internet under that code. Something should pop up if it is a real issue. I would even call back a third time. I have 10 and have had one time a while ago where I had called a few times until I got the right person.

@@RustyNelsonPhotography Thanks for the response. I didn't end up getting any help from Canon, but I did figure out a workaround after doing some digging.
I examined Canon's driver signatures, and one of the signatures expired in February 2020. Additionally, the signatures have no timestamp which throws a warning in DigiCert. My theory is that Canon's expired driver signature causes installation problems in some Windows configurations. I'm no expert on Windows driver signing however, so I can't say for sure.
It is possible to restart Windows with driver signature enforcement disabled. Doing so appears to allow the drivers to install.
      1) Click Start > Power
      2) While holding the Shift key, click restart
      3) Select "Troubleshoot"
      4) Select "Advanced Options"
      5) Select "Startup Settings"
      6) Select "Restart"
      7) When your computer restarts, select the option that corresponds to "Disable driver signature enforcement"
      8) You should now be able to install the drivers. You'll get a warning message that Windows could not verify the driver signature, and will have to click install anyway.
This worked for me, hopefully it helps someone else.

I need your help. The software for installing the driver run, but after at point 3 it say that it’s impossible to installing the drivers. I use Windows 10. Have you any suggestion? Thank you.

Really sorry but I would really have no idea. Just not enough to go on. I would call Canon tech support. Sorry about that. One question that may help somebody else answer...is this the first time you are installing the driver?

@@RustyNelsonPhotography in this pc yes, is the first time and the first printer installed.
Is a second hand print. On the printer the driver are update.
A note: windows see the print and it work but whithuot the canon drive, and like you know with fewer option for print.

Thanks for this great video. I'm late to the party but I've just discovered this video. Wish I'd seen it before I set up my first Pro-1000 last year. That's just about to be replaced by Canon under warranty and the new one is due next week. Glad I watched this before it arrives. PS pray you never see a B208 Support Code on your printer. That's why mine is being replaced. But to be fair to Canon UK they've been amazing. No quibbles, new printer. Bosh!

Yes they are good about replacing when things really go wrong. I've had a good experience with Canon...thats why I stick woth them. Let me know who it goes with the new one.

I've just had to refill my Pro-1000 ink cartridges.. However I can not disable the error code '1730' that says they are still empty. I read where you can disable this my holding down the STOP/CANCEL button, but this is not working for me. Any suggestions?

Hey Jane I only use the inks from canon so I'm not really the one to ask about refilling. You might try throwing it out to this link. Jose does a bunch of refilling. Tell him Rusty sent you. All the best. th-cam.com/users/cheo1949

I just made a major move so I'm a little behind and not set up to make vids right now. Next video will be unpacking from a shipment cross country. Has been packed away for a while so it will be interesting to see if it fires up with no problem.

I will be doing some print videos but geared to more of the "way" to print through Print Studio pro, lightroom and photoshop. If you are subscribed you will get notified but for now I'm out traveling doing some Extreme weather work in the midwest. Thanks for stopping in.
