She is not only a singer she is a story teller, and performer. She puts her whole heart into her singing. And puts you there with her. You feel her pain.

    More information on Lara Fabian:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both italian and french as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She had been living for years in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship. She just moved
back to Italy a few months ago (temporarily?).
She became very famous in Quebec and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary, packed with masterpieces (covered by many great vocalists later on).
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban (they are friends and he told she is a role model for him), …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
    She is Dimash's idol:
I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by by Lara.
Out of my mind I can list:
    ○ Adagio (She wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Mademoiselle Hyde (she wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Love of Tired Swans (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version)
    ○ Ascolta La Voce / Vocalize (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know")
She also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love".
And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).
Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy: Igor and Dimash connected after his Adagio cover, also endorsed by Lara.
Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him after it.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs, some have Lara as a role model and big inspiration:
    ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio),
    ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),
    ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie),
    ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),
    ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),
    ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),
    ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),
    ○ Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Adagio),
    ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),
    ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade),
    ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gigi de Lana (Broken Vow)
    ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know),
    ○ Il Divo (Adagio)
    ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),
    ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow)
    ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),
    ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie),
    ○ Amir (Je t’aime),
    ○ Vitas (Adagio),
    ○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio),
    ○ Jeck (Je T’Aime),
    ○ Evgenia Fanfara (Adagio),
    ○ Anna Eriksson (Je suis malade),
    ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),
    ○ Soprano Turetsky band (Adagio)
    ○ Majda Roumi (Adagio),
    ○ Harrison Craig (Broken Vow),
    ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you)
    ○ Sevara Nazarkhan (Je t’aime)
    ○ ....
NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version.
Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.
In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. She completed the europe part in September/October and I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was again spectacular.
On April and May 2023 she had again a wonderful concerts in Tbilissi, Georgia, and in Ouzbekhistan and Kazakhstan.
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.
The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal)
    th-cam.com/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/w-d-xo.html
is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic

To add another layer to her singing this song, Lara exhibited all 5 stages of grief in the performance. From denial, anger, bargaining, depression and then acceptance at the end. It's insane how deep this performance is.

Well that's it, you are now trap in her rabbit hole and you are only at her beginning, she went to Russia around 2008 and the great Igor Krutoy fell in love with her , saying she was the best female vocaliste in the world (same with David Foster) Igor then produced with her a movie (58 minutes,12 songs) title is Mademoiselle Zihvago , he composed the music and she wrote the lyrics, starting in 2010 they fill-up the Kremlin so often from 2010-2016, she became the biggest female singer in Eastern Europe, thats when Dimash was a kid and she became is biggest Fan, from that album, Dimash covered a lot of her songs. She is now 53yo still touring the world with her great performance and her look is sensational, have to say, she is from an other planet.

Hands down, you are absolutely correct, good man. Lara is by far the best female singer/performer in the world, not only by her technique, but her storytelling, her connection with the art, so amazing. Thanks for your reaction!

I have it many times before elsewhere. She is the greatest. She reigns supreme. She is the Queen of all singers. I have also mentioned the immense influence she has and has made on Dimash. Good as he is, he still has a lot to work on and to polish up.
Thank you for saying outright. Like you said that there are many great singers and artists out there but not one does it in the way Lara Fabian does. People need to know.
Thank you so much. I love your reaction.❤

At about ( 7:36-37) look at where the mic is?? In her right hand,by her knee..we all know that mics have compressers in them..the power in this lil lady is such, that they had to have her drop the mic there,so as to not overdrive the audio...it sounds like it is right by her mouth..n..it's at her knee!!!??? What an amazing ,awesome,
    Artist,indeed!!!!

🇨🇦 Lara lives in Montreal, Quebec but travels almost every year to Belgium to continue studying music at the best schools ! She is a Lyric Soprano !
If you pay close attention, you will hear her sing Every syllable of every word, in each sentence of each lyric, clearly and completely no matter which language she is singing in ! Below are two comments by Eric Sicard, in which he will tell you a little of Lara's history, and then a little bit of history to this song ! I recommend you react to 3 songs, her duet with Johnny Hallyday called Requiem pour un fou, Her first big hit called I will love again, and one called You're not from here !

Best get to know her Boudy....Celine Dion's management (and Sony record label) did not really want her competing with her in N. America (better singer IMHO) hence, she is so popular in Europe...she is Canadian/Belgium I believe, speaks and sings in multiple languages. She is undoubtedly one of the greatest female singers on this planet with most of her fanbase in Europe. She is in her 50's now and still performing. Any performance from "From Lara With Love" in 2000 are spectacular....well pretty much anything from Lara is spectacular. She is special.

A couple of things. Of course she was well known in Italy and France and when she went to Canada it was time for her to be discovered by the USA. Well, politics intervened and the powers who 'controlled' Celine Dion made sure that Lara would not get the exposure she was deserving of because the Dion camp knew the audiences would fall in love with Lara. And so, although she was greatly appreciated in Canada, not so for the USA. So back to Europe she went. Btw, this video you were watching was from 1999 or 2000.
Yes, you were right on in regards to Dimash. With all the training he received since he was a small child he was 'lacking' the skill to bring emotion into his music. When he heard Lara he marveled at how she was able to do it so beautifully. They crossed paths because they both became associated with the famous Ukrainian-Russian Composer Igor Krutoy and thus started a close friendship between the two of them which still exists today. So, yes, when you hear Dimash bringing a lot of emotion into his music, he mastered the art by watching and listening to Lara. For your information they have sang together and I have one for you to listen to. Igor was celebrating a Birthday Party at an Ice Skating Rink and believe it or not a full orchestra and stars galore were there to celebrate with him. There was one song in particular which 'stole the show'. It was Dimash, Lara and Aida Garifullina singing 'Ti Amo Cosi'. It might take you out of your chair! Lara almost had to cancel because of a recent illness but she didn't want to miss this celebration and she made it.
Last little story for you. You spoke about how it is impossible to be taught how Lara can sing like she does. Well, the story is (she told us) she was very little and in the car (back seat) and her father was taking her somewhere and suddenly out of nowhere Lara burst out in song. I don't mean La-La-La. It was so extraordinary her father had to pull over and listen to her sing. That was Lara's magical beginning.
I think if you go to Dimash and Ti Amo Cosi it will bring you to the video or go straight to Ti Amo Cosi Dimash and that will get you there, too.

2 additional notes on top of your excellent comment:
      - Lara also wrote the lyrics of the song Your Love for Dimash
      - here is the song she replicated as a baby in the car, it’s a very difficult one to mimic 😂

Thank you Eric for your wonderful follow up. It's no wonder papa had to pull over! 🙂 Btw, I wonder if Patricia Janeckova has ever sang this song? Listening to Patricia sing 'How The West Was Won' ('Once Upon A Time In The West') is one of my favorite video's. Eric, I'm sure you know her but if you don't give her a listen. Choose the video which is 8:54 long. What a treat. I know she would have a field day with the song Lara was singing in the back seat of the car. @@ericsicard910

Great reaction!! Would love to see you react to “Je t’aime” live in 2001.. As the story goes. She was going through a lot in her life and her fans knew.. they set it up with her piano player in other parts of her musical team. An just before she started to sing, they sang for her. You can hear someone yell “chante pas Lara” which is don’t sing Lara.. If you can find the one with the subtitles.. it’s so incredibly moving..
Love your reaction! Cheers from 🇨🇦😊

Related to your comment near the end about working to develop a talent like her’s - one of the things I love about Lara is that she still works constantly with her vocal coach. Yes she is gifted by God, but she has taken that gift and worked hard to maintain it.

Yes. The Greatest. No-one does love and loss like Lara. She fully inhabits the story and delivers with incredible nuance, passion and micro-intentionality of every note and breath between. Her management of dynamics is extra-ordinary. Every song a Master Class. You've heard that Dimash studied her closely, and yes, you can see her influences in his work. She sings in many languages and is well known all over Europe, including performing for years with Igor Krutoy.
Dimash was thrilled to finally be able to sing with Lara ( and the wonderful emerging Great Soprano; Aida Garifullina } in their stunning performance of TI AMO COSI. You MUST see this one!
There are so many wonderful Lara performances, but there are 2 more that are UNMISSABLE! No-one, in my humble opinion, has EVER done a better 'CARUSO',{ # choose the version: "From Lara With Love Concert 2000 } and the 2nd is her 2001 Paris Concert, the entire concert is wonderful, but the song Je Taime { get the tissues out!} is particularly memorable. You'll see why! ENJOY. 😃

She also sang in english and italian, although her songs in those languages didn't have nearly the same success they did as the ones in french. But yeah really her vocal abilities are off the damn charts, and since the late 90s she's indeed had a HUGE success in the french speaking countries. Even if a bunch of songs she sang were covers (like this one, btw), she brought to broader audiences versions that really enhanced the original, without anyone having the feeling she stole anything ^^
She also stayed pretty much outside most of the celebrity drama and stuff, which is a refreshing touch.

Regarding the acapella bit and keeping time: she doesn’t have to keep time there cause in that moment she is the conductor of the band. The head shake is her signal for the band to join in. She can take as long as she wants and they will simply wait for her and her head shake or any other signal they agreed upon.
