Been wrestling with this problem since I became a father of two and feel like I’m losing traction as a professional filmmaker.
Finally had to come to terms with the fact that I should focus on being the best father I can be to my children as they’re only small for a short time in there life and there will be plenty of chances to catch back up with my filmmaking.

I think I understand what she means. You have to be a solid, functional, organised, serious (as in taking your responsibilities seriously) person be an artist. Slacking off in one area is a negative way of being which permeates everything about you, including your art. If you are a conscientious person it needs to be how you behave in the world, not used selectively for things you've deemed "worthy" to be conscientious about. It's about you and how you behave.

This goes where the very core is. Each one has a life force within them. Stopping is not wrong, stop if you must, and keeping on going if you must and know why - and that is great. Also I loved when she said I do not much like the word career.

Hail Viki! People just can't get it through their heads that with a loser mentality, that's all they'll ever be. One of my most favorite quotes I've ever come across in my days (on the forums for an online video game of all places) was "Your only limitations are self-imposed". That was the player's signature... for a forum... on an online game... It's simple - but I'm grateful to this day.

It's not an empty statement "know thyself". From lumberjack to a painter, everything is clear if you know who you are deep inside. If that is familiar territory to you then you are familiar with the general inner human system too. That helps you understand others and convey your message the way that the other person gets it, was it a lumberjack or a painter.
Remember this: you are not your mind, you are not your body. There is something deeper and when you get to that point on your journey that is something akin to what she said about touching the face of the god. A small divine spark of the universe is in all of us. Chase superficial things and your understanding stays superficial. Make the outside facade more important to you than what your life can be and you will feel forever lost.
Human experience is heavy with physical and mental limitations so turning inwards voluntarily or forced by the happenings around you, crossing those limitations is a struggle. Accepting the less limited version of you is a struggle and other people usually do not make it any easier. From that process comes the phrase that great art comes from great struggle. And it is often the sensitive kind of soul that turns inwards because life on this planet can be very hard and full of obstacles.
Often (if not every time) it is those obstacles that force a person to look answers from within because they couldn't find answers from others. It is a lonely journey for a while but after some time you start recognize other people here and there who are going through the same struggles, conquering obstacles and by just doing that they inspire others.
If that is not where the great art comes from.. I have no idea and Im still lost too. But what I feel now after years of struggling Im certain that Im on my right path and I wish this comment would inspire those still struggling to keep going. And remember: you are not in a hurry, you are not alone - as a seeker of something bigger in this life there are no competitions. Well, perhaps one.. The competition with the innate human need to belong against innate human desire to feel limitless.
Opening your true self for the world to see is very vulnerable state of being so the strong instinct to survive will fight back. So what do you choose to do? Bravely step into the ongoing creation as your true self or hide it and stay just as another member of a tribe. Now that there is THE struggle. I wish you choose well and find courage to face those fears because only a true self can know the life and aid you in your battles. Only a true self can create abundance from the experience of the struggle to be you.

The only thing I'm afraid of about something like this is if "Someone Else" takes away my IDEAS for Stupid & Selfish Reasons!!!

Do you tell in the internet all your ideas to everyone? Do you only have few ideas? Fear is a mind killer.. ;)

I remember Joe Rogan saying he knows a waitress in her sixties that still thinks she’s going to be a star in Hollywood. Sad.

@ What a great story about *starlet*. Unfortunately, Rogan’s waitress ran to Hollywood at 18 and has never had a lead role.

@ The way Joe was talking about it with his guest, the waitress couldn’t act to save her life but wouldn’t “let go of her dream.” That’s why I originally added ‘sad.’ Dreams need to be attainable. Don’t confuse a dream with a fantasy.
