    Okay, so for Windows folks, I went throught varies alternatives, I can say that VoiceMeeter Banana works like a charm for this occasion.
    What you want to do after installing it, is, while in Asio Driver Type, select VoiceMeter Insert Virtual Asio as your audio device - you got 22 channels, that are good to go for the same purpose Will uses Soundflower in Mac.

    I tried to follow your video but the pace was too fast for me as I'm a newbie and have no knowledge of groups? send/returns (except for effects). But the concept seems like a good idea and I'd like to try it. I have a couple of questions though: 1. I have 16 channels to my auto interface/16 tracks. My Live v12 seems to have a limit of 12 returns, so how do I proceed? 2. How do I change the volume of e.g. the bass in song 1 without impacting bass in other songs? Do I have to chnage this at the clip level? 3. I didn't understand why I get a fader for each individual song? Surely the tracks are all common across the whole arrangement so how do I get seperate faders per song?

    Do you usually send everything in mono? I have a gig comming up and I dont know if I should send the backing tracks in stereo as well as instruments.

    Thank you for this tutorial! Would LOVE a video on how you configured Loopback (by Rogue Amoeba) to use with Ableton. I can't get the additional outputs to show up in the Output Configuration of Ableton but it could be that I didn't set it up in Loopback correctly.

    OK Major doubt, How is that group fader turning all the send levels down? I mean aren't the tracks in the group routed to the sends go directly and bypass the group outs? I have always used the group tracks to organize and this changes everything, I guess its the pre and post-fader settings but not sure. This is awesome! You learn something every day!

    For some reason, when I send a track to a return, it doesn’t work properly.
    For example: I have 8 returns, I’m sending all guitar tracks to D return, and I want to send BVs to return G, so I turn up the send the corresponding track but doesn’t register, however, if I turn up send D (for example) it comes through..
    How does this happen.. I also use your template.

    Hello! Thanks for the video! I have one question:
    You are about to record some vocals and you have some vocal tracks (lead vocals and vocal layers) that require the same default plugins to get started. For example, you might have a standardized plugin chain like EQ, DeEsser, Compressor, Saturator, Reverb and Delay with default settings for every vocal track you produce.
    To save CPU, instead of inserting this plugin chain in each vocal track, people usually suggest using a Return track and inserting the plugin chain there. Then, it's advised to increase the Send level of the vocal tracks to let the audio pass through the Return track and then to the Master.
    However, unless the output of the vocal tracks changes from Master to Send Only, you will have double audio going through the master (the audio from the vocal tracks and the return track).
    You could also group the vocals and send them to the return track, which leads to the same issue but with less flexibility in the individual tracks.
    My question is what is the best practice in the above example, considering the need for further effects per track down the road, as well as gain staging and mixing overall?
    Thank you!

      Create a aux/bus track. I.e. Create a new New track- call it ALL VOX or SUM VOX and route this to Master. Route your Vox group output & return track output to that track. On ALL VOX track right click each send dial and disable. This will resolve the latency internal to Ableton. You’ll still have plug-in & hardware latency to contend with though. Ableton processes Tracks then Sends, which is why doubling occurs the way you’ve described.

    This would be so much clearer if there was actual sounds and hearing where they go. It's so theoretical that it's easy to get lost. Things are sent here and there and somewhere else but I'd need to actually need to see/hear it happening not just describing what would happen if.

    Hi! nice vid. I was wondering what you would recommend to someone who wants to route their live set through sends but uses master effects like a DJ? I still want the fx to affect all my tracks at once.

    If I’m editing without my interface, do I have to change the Audio To for each song in the set? And then change it back again when I’m done editing?

      Yes, but all your routing stays intact. 1 change Vs multiple changes if you don’t use return tracks

    Everything in audio track 1 ends up leaking into audio track 2, even with the sound turned all the way down whatever is in the first audio track end up in the second track if I try to record on second empty track while listening to the first track playing. If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it.

      3 month old post, i know, so hopefully you sorted this. if you are still having issues I can help you troubleshoot if you want. what audio interface are you using? Are you using a patchbay? Are you using good quality cables? Are you using balanced cables? What gear is on channels 1 & 2?

    Why would you need to do all this if your not using an audio interface? Like going from laptop straight to direct box and sound board.

      If you’re looking to achieve the same goals I was-I’d suggest using Sends/Returns. If you’re just going direct I’d just group your stems only.

    Do the sends/returns have to be set in session view?

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you can adjust sends in session or arrangement view

    • @MM-bj5yl
      @MM-bj5yl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t see the “S” in arrangement view only session. Is this a live 10 feature? Where do I look?

    • @angiemeador2649
      @angiemeador2649 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MM-bj5yl nvm... figured it out. I see in arrangement view the "dials" are little boxes and the number is the amount you want to send. They weren't labeled in arrangement view so I wasn't sure what they were until I started giving them values in session and swapping back n forth. This is great!

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t get send knobs in arrangement view, but you’ll find the boxes to adjust sends when “M” for mixer controls are visible. You can also automate in Arrangement View as well

    Anyone have a Soundflower / Loopback option for PC users?

      Here’s a thread with a few options, I haven’t tested them though: www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/soundflower-equivlent-for-pc.220520/
