Thank you for this video! You touched on a lot of things I was thinking during and after the movie, although I don't agree on exactly everything you said. I did keep myself blind for the movie, so no trailers, but I did hear that the movie was quite polarizing and it didn't sit well with me. I grew up on Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse (Barbie lives in Malibu btw, not Miami; I mixed them up a lot too as a kid, I'm not from the USA) and I have to say, this movie hit me like a train. I was fully expecting the self-aware, consciously stupid dialogue and surreal humor, as well as actual CHARACTERS. Plot secondary. But I was let down. Instead, everything felt so expositional, like it just happened because they wanted to make a movie. No character depth and broken/questionable worldbuilding(although an amazing set, like you said! If they just stayed there...). Dissapointing and legit kinda boring.
I do have to say that a feminist message could've worked, if it wasn't from the persepective of a woman that seems to have a supportive husband and a nice job. That's more than a lot of other women have, which actually just makes her look bad, not relatable. They could've portrayed different women/girls playing with each of the dolls and showing their individual struggles, I think that would've actually been charming.
Ken could've been interesting but I don't understand why they don't acknowledge his history and changes over the years, as well as the impact he did have on popular culture. They make him look like he doesn't matter and hasn't done anything ever (the ending didn't change that either, in my eyes). Also, he's so pathetic and annoying for no reason. And don't even get me started on Barbie, I've never seen such a bland character in my life. Just two idiots that didn't have any chemistry, no comedic timing, no nothing. It's just disrespectful to their legacy, in my opinion. And I hate how this movie tried to be funny in a silly way, when it was really not the right fit for the tone. I couldn't tell if they wanted me to take the movie seriously or not. And there was so much more I didn't like.
Honestly I'm still kinda upset even months after watching it. Barbie deserved a better movie.

I just watched it last night and went in pretty much blind and "Late to the Party" as they say 😅🫣 #1 I watch a movie for entertainment value and for the character background ...I agree with your take on it . I didn't even laugh ,which is so sad cause I love to ,esp at Will Farrel who is hilarious usually 😞 Maybe it's the style of filmmaking that I don't like ,idk .I'm over 50 yrs and I guess I'm old.
