A few added larger tires and explained how they did it. I'm a little surprised the tiny size you chose, I would have gone with one at least the size of the floor of the tent. That's going to be an interesting tow, a couple of things to keep in mind would be the bouncing and vibration. Built many of those trailers to pull behind motorcycles. Always took a leaf out of each spring. And the most important thing! Tongue is to short. Hey Brian! Great build and you’ve got a new subscriber! I recently built my first RTT camping trailer after purchasing a Rubicon and I’m excited to get out there! I’m curious, did you consider welding the trailer frame to avoid depending on the bolts and hardware staying tight? I’m not a welder, but my build escalated (as projects often do) and I decided to purchase a welder to assist with some ideas I wanted to incorporated. I upgraded my wheels and tires using wheel adaptors from Amazon to convert to a standard Jeep bolt pattern and provide the extra spacing necessary for some much larger all-terrain tires. They required flipping the axle first to gain additional lift and clearance, but now my trailer rides level behind my Jeep. It’s been working very well so far! Looking forward to seeing yours in action! Happy to chat further if I can be of any help!
Thanks Ryan. But….i ended up scrapping this idea. The trailer was just too small to tow safely, so I’m going with another RTT setup over my truck bed. I also thought about welding up the trailer, but between the nylon lock nuts and split washers I felt it was pretty secure. If I put the trailer through its paces I’d probably come back and weld it up though like you did. Better safe than sorry👍🏻

Upgrade the axle to a 3500# axle. That’s what I did for my trailer. I run a pair of Ford Ranger wheels and tires. The added width helps stabilize the trailer even more.
Does that then need new leaf springs too, or just the axle? What width? How does that fit on the trailer? (So many questions, haha) I like the idea, do you possibly have more details on it? Thanks
@seymourwrasse3321 check your maximum speed on your wheels and tires, these trailers are notorious for having 45-55 maximum speed limits on the tires and rims. what ever size tires you go with, make sure they are trailer tires
I have those same flip down legs, they work pretty good, I have one on each side of the tongue a frame as those flip down wheels don’t work well on an a frame being mounting only on one side. Might also consider some rock lights mounted underneath to give some under-glow, I put 4 on mine. Enjoy the trailer!
I think the plugs are only rated to about 10 amps and the heater needs about 15 on start up. I got a AC to DC converter and plugged it into the 120 outlet on my bluetti. Worked great. You wouldn't need the extra battery and would give you more storage space in the tongue box
Can you give a rough estimate of the cost of this setup? I’d really like to get into truck camping and doing vids and some catch clean cooks. This looks like the most realistic, obtainable setup that I could do on weekends..! Any info would help! Thanks 🙏 can’t wait to see how it performs!
Hey Brian, Great project. Carry tools to tighten things up. I've built several similar type trailers for friends and family. "Just the trailer not the cool part". They love to rattle loose. Recently I've been using nylock nuts or blue thread locker and so far it's been a good fix. I'm excited to see you use it. Thanks for the video's
Does your battery box need some ventilation? Also, batteries are affected by temperature so should that box be insulated so your battery doesn't lose its charge? Or freeze? (Overheat in hot weather?)
Hey Brian, I realize this is an older video and that you have sold the trailer but a wanted to ask you if this set up tipped back on you when trying to get in the tent? Did the four stab. feet make it completely stable?
I haven’t ran a runtime test on mine, but I’ve seen they get a day or two at least with a gallon. Mostly running on middle heat setting. High setting would be way too much
It’s nice to see something new. ! Pros : Truck caps look like a grandpa mobiles. This is what I have. The reduction to an everyday driver by leaving your camping gear at home would be a gas saving, plus you can now also use your truck as a truck. Cons : Your excuse to not use your truck as a truck is gone. Lol Your access to some of your gear may not be with you. A little less secure and a little more setup time. I would think that getting ready to camp would be about the same depending on your setups. It’s something to think about! Thanks for the content.
What’s your favorite 12v fridge/freezer that you have used? I picked up a little trailer I’m converting into a tent trailer like yours, I don’t want to spend oodles of money for a dometic. I know that you have had a couple different ones so looking for feedback. Thanks!

Nice project! Looks good! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I'm not sure what you used to secure the D-rings to the floor? If you used screws I would replace them with bolts, washers and nuts. I secured D-rings to my wood floor on my trailer with the provided wood screws and they pulled out with all of the shaking, rocking and rolling on rough dirt and gravel roads. Luckily I didn't lose any cargo, only one strap, but it was a valuable lesson.

It's the Ironton 40x48 from Northern tools. I used the equivalent from Harbor Freight
@seymourwrasse3321 check your maximum speed on your wheels and tires, these trailers are notorious for having 45-55 maximum speed limits on the tires and rims. what ever size tires you go with, make sure they are trailer tires
Great catch! Manual says don’t exceed 45 mph. In Texas that’s neighborhood riding around speed.
Yeah…they are “rated” for 55. I found some 4 on 4 13” wheels rated for 80mph on E-Trailer
Oh yeah, there will be lighting installed eventually👍🏻
I think the plugs are only rated to about 10 amps and the heater needs about 15 on start up. I got a AC to DC converter and plugged it into the 120 outlet on my bluetti. Worked great. You wouldn't need the extra battery and would give you more storage space in the tongue box
That’s exactly what I did. Even created a video on it👍🏻
Can you give a rough estimate of the cost of this setup? I’d really like to get into truck camping and doing vids and some catch clean cooks. This looks like the most realistic, obtainable setup that I could do on weekends..! Any info would help! Thanks 🙏 can’t wait to see how it performs!
The tent was around $1400 shipped, and the trailer was $299
That is so awesome, buddy! Thanks for taking the time to bring us along.
Thank you👍🏻
Hey Brian, Great project.
Thanks for the tips👍🏻👍🏻
Does your battery box need some ventilation? Also, batteries are affected by temperature so should that box be insulated so your battery doesn't lose its charge? Or freeze? (Overheat in hot weather?)
I would install vents if I was running this in the summer for sure
Hey Brian, I realize this is an older video and that you have sold the trailer but a wanted to ask you if this set up tipped back on you when trying to get in the tent? Did the four stab. feet make it completely stable?
Honestly, the leg stabilizers really helped. I did not notice any tipping back when I had them extended.
Nice!!! Where did you get the trailer and rack at?? And what size of trailer is this?? Ty!!!
Trailer is a 40x48 I got from northern tool. Ended up being too small, so would t really recommend it
How long do you think these diesel heaters would continuously run on 1 gallon of fuel if it were 35 degrees outside. I'm thinking of one myself.
I haven’t ran a runtime test on mine, but I’ve seen they get a day or two at least with a gallon. Mostly running on middle heat setting. High setting would be way too much
What trailer and what rack is this any link
Trailer is a Northern Tool 48” trailer and the rack is some Amazon ladder rack I found.
Excellent ! I was just thinking today I hope you do a vid on the build. "Some assembly required" is always fun.
👍🏻👍🏻
This won’t work. To small and will fly out when you drive. What are you thinking!
It was a bad idea. I nixed it
It’s nice to see something new.
Thanks Glen👍🏻
What’s your favorite 12v fridge/freezer that you have used? I picked up a little trailer I’m converting into a tent trailer like yours, I don’t want to spend oodles of money for a dometic. I know that you have had a couple different ones so looking for feedback. Thanks!
I’ve had really good luck with Bodega coolers. Pretty inexpensive for a 12v cooler on Amazon
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thank you very much for the info!
Thanks for your Naturnest roof top tent reviews😀
👍🏻
Nice work! I agree with your concern over the tire size. Need bigger and better wheels!
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice project and build. Maiden voyage will tell you a lot. Safe travels!
Thank you👍🏻
Very nice indeed, i purchased wedge camper for my truck bed do not pick it up until august. One question is the solar for recharging your lithium battery or bluetti or both?.
I just have it setup to charge my Bluetti. I do t have a charge controller setup yet to charge the lithium battery
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thks for the reply.
I didnt see another video where you took this out. Looks like you have another roof top tent, so was wondering how this worked out?
I didn’t end up using it. Honestly, it was a bad design and I didn’t feel comfortable towing it.
@BrianWatersOutdoors Makes sense... keep em coming! I havent been to Ray Roberts to camp in a bit, never to LBJ, but now looking to get a couple weekends in before June after seeing these videos
Nice project! Looks good! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm not sure what you used to secure the D-rings to the floor? If you used screws I would replace them with bolts, washers and nuts. I secured D-rings to my wood floor on my trailer with the provided wood screws and they pulled out with all of the shaking, rocking and rolling on rough dirt and gravel roads. Luckily I didn't lose any cargo, only one strap, but it was a valuable lesson.
👍🏻👍🏻
I love your creativity and ingenuity. That’s a pretty awesome build. I honestly think I would’ve held onto my truck topper for a little while. You might miss the convenience of truck camping
Thanks Steve👍🏻 I really do t think I’m gonna miss it though. I like my truck so much more without the topper, and we are going to be doing more RV trips too👍🏻
Hi
How do you change the diesel heater battery?
I’ll have to recharge at home. I would get 5-7 days off that single battery though running on medium
Do you think it is possible to change the battery with the blueetty?
😎👍🏻👍🏻🍺🍺
👍🏻👍🏻
Is it stable enough when you are in and out of the tent? It seems very top heavy. No danger of it tipping?
Holy Moly!❤ An "A+" for creativity, engineering and self-design ". Technology!?. Man you sure did think about this setup. Excellent 👌 You finally got the solar panel connected to power station with battery . Great job. Is it possible (here I go thinking the extra mile😊) to run back up wire from your truck alternator to have as stand bye back up to charge that power station and or extra battery in your rear silver cabinet? . Stability of that camp-tow-rig while driving bumpy roads would be my next concern but again., great job!👏🍻. Camp-Truck-Enterprise! Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks👍🏻
Really nice trailer and set up. My 2 cents… Instead of dropping the hitch, I would get bigger wheels. Dropping the hitch may limit you going off-road ….
👍🏻👍🏻
I love the new build change up. Also, is that a different diesel heater I see? Should definitely do a video over it. Im looking at heaters right now! Thanks for the continuous quality content brother.
It’s the same heater👍🏻 I did a review of this on my other channel
Brian, brilliant build! I know, with all those fancy tools, you are bound to have a battery op socket wrench! My wrist got sore watching you twist that manual socket wrench that much!
lol, I do….but where is the fun in that??😂
