I honestly don't recommend buying Bulwark for the mid-game unless you have friends, since you'd need anti-polearm and anti-archers so your units wall doesn't just get bullied for a minute until it gets pierced. Do note shields can break.
as some one who used to main bulwark, it is completely useless unless your teammates are competent. it gets absolutely shredded by landsk and woldo, and has no defense against units like musketeer or kyudo, so you NEED your teammates to be smart enough to take them out.
Ashigaru might be better, as spear with charge is needed or else you're just gonna get bullied by ranged units or forget what I said and just have the third guy use any offensive unit that can charge (Kesh and Clay for example)
Something that isn't mentioned is that bulwark is useless vs cavalry because it does not have the necessary damage to repel cav and it will gradually get destroyed although nearly every unit has this problem since even praetorian fall pray to a good cav commander I seen praetorians annihilated by mongol heavy which lost 1 compared to praetorians 11 so when you have bulwark be weary of cav
@@TykieZAthat definitely depends because even though I'm level 225 around 1/3-1/5 games I play with cav (I play a lot of units mostly mongol heavy and jaguar warrior) are played with no spear units even 225s have trouble getting a spear to combat I also would like to mention bulwark is all around terrible in my opinion it's low damage is just too much a con to make it a good defence unit because one of the most important things is to beat of if not bloody an attacker enough that they need to respawn
