    My 2021 start was hectic, to say the least... I began with personal rings, then set up a bullet journal (yes, I agree - tomoe river paper is a struggle, if you want to jot something down and quickly close your planner... so it didn't work either), then I went back to pocket rings, and finally I decided to dig out my very first planner - a standard TN. And surprisingly it worked, although I didn't even expect that at all!!! I guess I have my mind at peace for now, thank God. And I actually enjoy my planning now, instead of trying to convince myself that it works. That's great.
    As for your videos, whatever you decide to do, I know I will enjoy watching. I always get inspired, no matter what system you use. Thanks for sharing your planner updates)

    I love all of your planners: rings or bookbound. I love the honesty in your planner system video's and the fact that you go for what works for you. And your husband sounds like an very wise man saying: rings is your thing :). Thank you for sharing and have a safe, blessed day :).

    I started out using a weekly, but quickly switched to daily pages so I could have more room. I like to use some stickers and log what I do each day, plus gratitude.

    Deconstruct your weeks & punch the pages to put in your personal size.
    The smallest planner I can do besides a weeks is a B6 slim. I keep trying pockets & A6 but never have much luck.

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A6 is the one size rings I have yet to try, and I decided not to try them again. Heavens knows I have too many options already!

    I have that exact same Motern planner. I use that as my everyday carry/wallet but only have my monthly pages in it for keeping track of appointments when out. I have the personal Motern planner but keep that at home and it where I do my actual planning.

    I use my pocket rings for EDC “scribble planning” jotting lists and brief notes. Love my Hobonichi weekly supplement for memory/deco planning. Nice to have the bound volume at year-end 👍🏻 TFS Sam 💚

    I just moved back into the pocket. My work personal rings were not tight, and I only had my personal malden to put the inserts in. Luckily I could easily move BACK to pocket :) I have the weekly Simple and Trendy Co insert and like it, but didn't have any printed. I did have a pile of dailies and decided to try using them. I guess if I ever found another personal to use for work I could change again. That is what I like about rings :)

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love that about rings too. And I keep lots of printed and cut inserts for Personal size because I always know if I ever default back to any size, it is going to be that one.

    Hi Sam, well you know how I feel about rings. While I love all Japanese planners and journals, I've been settled in Filofax rings for 3 years. Although I have a personal FF Original I find the FF pocket size is more my jam. I enjoy it as an EDC and as a wallet combined, (it does fit in your pocket) (and I am always so proud to bring it out when I am paying for something plus you can look through it in a coffee shop). I have two FF Pockets, and switch colors between the seasons. What I am doing this year is putting 12 month calendar, simple tracking, To Dos and Lists in my main one, and I use the other one which stays at home, for any planning I want to organize or lay out. I don't need my projects in my daily carry. For this year, I am not using the Personal size. I guess you will be getting a Malden? or maybe Original? I have a Malden Pear and adore it. It makes me so happy when Spring rolls around and I can use it. No matter what you do, you have so many fans, and your efforts actually help me make decisions. Your poor husband, (your words), is a gem. Mine could not be bothered and in fact, would really give me a hard time. My journals, TNs, fountain pens,, books and planners, drive him nuts as it is. When I go the library he says "More books?" He just doesn't get it, but you do, so we're sisters in this deal. Love it. See you for the arrival/unboxing of your new planner! c

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although I wish the little pocket had worked out, I am super happy to be back in rings! And I LOVE both the Pear Malden AND Original. Green is one of my favorite colors of all time and I always move there for spring feels for sure. I am glad my husband is supportive (well as much as he can be) of my little hobbies, but we kind of approach everything the same way. We are a team for just about everything, but we don’t have our family close so we just have each other (and the kids of course). 🤓 I also love pulling my personal Malden out to pay for things. People usually seem very interested in what it is!

    Back to rings! May I ask, what size are those rings? And do you plan to use it as a wallet too? I switched yesterday from a mini Malden as a EDC/ wallet to an unused pocket Holborn as an EDC/wallet, for two reasons: I won’t be as stressed about it getting damaged as I would my pretty pocket Malden, and the Holborn has horizontal pockets, easier for reaching cards without opening the whole thing. It’s never ending, this quest!

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the are 19 mm which isn’t bad for a pocket! I ADORE the Holborn, but the rings are too small, even for me, and I just can’t make it work. 😭

    Good video! I started a new set up in pocket too last month for on the go. I wanted a smaller to do list to focus on priorities. I purchased the simple and trendy co inserts with the hourly schedule. I want to keep a reminder of my schedule of the day. I still use my personal rings for longer lists etc but it was overwhelming seeing all the todos etc on 2 pages lol. I purchased a printable 31 days tracker from thinkthankay but it’s for personal rings but they may have a pocket one. I’m wanting to keep it simple in the pocket rings.💕

    Oh my goodness look how cute that is! I'm sorry you're not finding a balance with the pens and the Tomoe River Paper. I also hate ballpoint pens and am having much success with finer nibbed gel pens like the Energel Clena and the Uniball Signo DX in my Hobonichi Cousin (and obviously fine nib fountain pens). Due to the smaller grid size in Japanese planners, I find anything over 0.4mm just looks too thick. Conversely, if you're really married to the Frixion pens and can't see yourself using anything else, the paper in the Kokuyo Jibun Techos is revered in the Frixion pen community :P It doesn't wrinkle or ball up when erasing like the TRP does. However, it also uses a small grid size so having a finer nib is still helpful.

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn’t it weird how the paper does that!? I considered the Jibun Techo and still may give it another try in the future. I do like the organization of it. Bonus points for behaving with FriXion. I can’t seem to get comfortable with anything smaller than a .5 nib, and even that took time!

    I really like the Peanuts Planner Co insert, but I can’t get it to print correctly for me. I’ll think all is good on one side and then things don’t line up for the second side. I wish I could just buy them in printed form.

    • @deidrabell1142
      @deidrabell1142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had that problem too until someone mentioned in the ppc group that you should print the inserts using Acrobat Reader DC. It’s free and now I can print on both sides of the paper.

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if you use Adobe it should be fine. I saw something on the website about printed inserts being in the works? I know I have also seen people buy the insert they want and then pay someone to print it out for them, but I am not sure if that is still being done.

      @@samplans Yes I have heard of this. I was trying to find out more about this because I love annieplanprintables and peanutsplannerco inserts but can't print them right now. It's so hard finding shops that do both and have inserts you want. Every insert I have wanted is a printable shop.

    I'm in LOVE with the Malden Duck Egg and Lilac colors. I just can't limit myself to 19 or 20 mm. I am not sure you can change the rings in a Filofax Malden. Do you know?

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, to change the rings on a Malden you would have to cut the leather under the pocket or at the end of the rings and pry them out. You can then attach other rings, but the fit won’t be the same at all. I wouldn’t do it, personally.

    I have been debating going to rings but not yet convinced. I agree with others that rings seem to be your most comfortable planning. I do have a question on your Motern. Are the rings centered (vertically)? I looks to me there is more space at the time.

    • @samplans
      @samplans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are. I think it possibly didn’t look centered because of the back pocket? There is a bit of a “lip” extra of leather for the opening.
