Most United States college students dorm (aka live on campus) when attending university. It's not free, you get charged for it per semester unless you have a some sort of scholarship or are somehow exempt.
I live in the US and it’s not mandatory for you too live in a dorm but most people here feel like that is there freedom away from home and they can do what ever they want. Most people stay in the dorms if they live too far, when I was in cosmetology school there was people from all over the world that come to my collage and stayed in the dorms. I lived an hour from my collage but I chose to drive back and forth because where I went the collage was known for partying and knocking people up and I was engaged and had a baby on the way. It’s really just your preference on what you yourself would like to do but it’s not cheap 🥴
Aren’t you bothered by not having your privacy? I’m from NL, I’m not used to students living in the same bedroom... Usually in small rooms in a shared house so it seems really oncomfortable to me. Would be having a hard time sleeping too
