I love to do that too. Usually fall asleep quickly, because of the soothing voice not because its boring lol. I'd recommend listening to audios for relaxing before sleep.
Really helps me sleep at night - so much so it usually takes about 6 attempts to actually get to the end to hear the outcome. Exquisite elocution and delivery x
GREAT - all these stories are not readily available - really enjoy them and having the stories on audio is great so that they can be heard anytime - the reader is excellent - thank you for all of these gifts - also love all the older authors - most people would not have access to these books otherwise
Just discovered these audios this year! What a blessing. Have read all the books now can listen to them and get a completely different view. The voice is perfect!
Greg, you have an incredibly beautiful and elegant voice. I prefer your reading of these stories above others. Thank you for offering these wonderful stories.
I love how you can just listen to this, instead of finding the books for a start. Then read it to yourself without going to dreamland... I mean listening to this is FREE! Who would dislike this channel?! Everyone who finds this should think, “Wow, I Really Have Struck Gold Here.”
I cannot reasonably hope to impart to you the joyous effect these audio presentations have had upon a humble production designer. Without you, sir, my time spent hunched as the bell ringer of Hugo over my keyboard would have driven me into a state of depressive madness. Kudos to you!
I love audiobooks but I am super picky about the voices. You, sir have done an AMAZING job! I am a huge SH fan and it’s like the stories are all new for me to enjoy over again!
I am 50 and when I was 6 I was given the Complete Sherlock Holmes that Chrstmas and had finished reading it from cover to cover and watching the old black and white Sherlock Holmes on the BBC. By the following Christmas I had read the whole book. This reading is so well done it is like a trip down memory lane lane. Thanks
Ladies do not faint “from an attack of brain fever.” Victorian ladies did faint now and again from an attack of too-tight-stays in their corsets and resultant lack of oxygen. They fainted because they couldn’t breathe. This story is full of contrivances and obvious literary devices that are eye-rolling and well beneath the dignity of Doyle’s usually masterful storytelling. One of his poorer efforts.
The Royal Munsters? Ooooohhh - the vision of such a personage is too delicious a concept to contemplate. Would that dear Walt Disney were still with us. What he could have done with that.
I listen to these, I listen to the cooing of the birds, I listen to the creaking axel of my car, I listen to my yelling wife, I listen to my yelling wife, I listen to horrible news, I listen to the coaxing of silent auctions From hell, I listen to the cooing of the birds, I listen to these. - a haiku of sorts, By A. It’s where King David assaulted Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah (one of his best soldiers) killed in battle. The story is told in the 11th and 12th chapters of Second Samuel. You can Google them; since the whole story won’t fit in the comment box.
What you are doing is legendary. If u read a story in one video, can u do like an explanation in the following video of the same story?? That would be helpful and a lot of my friends want that too. We would all appreciate it. This I believe will help your channel out too.
Hi Nawaz, Glad you are enjoying the channel. Perhaps you can explain a little more what you mean when you say an explanation. Look forward to hearing from you. G
I meant that after reading the story, if we get a summary of the story, it would be very helpful for a lot of schools where these stories are read. If u cannot do it, it is absolutely fine. I will still be subscribed and surely will continue to support this channel. Thank you Magpie audio. 😁
Nazeef Chowdhury He’s already doing a service to humanity. He read the story FOR YOU, you lazy prat. Don’t expect him to do your %#¥?!%# - ing homework, as well you little twerp!
Doyle really falls down on this story. Besides the ridiculous device of “brain fever,” an idiotic bit of Victorian nonsense of which Doyle was quite fond, and an expression which a medical man like Watson would never have used, he maintains that the dead body bore an expression of terror on the face, an impossibility given that muscles go lax upon death and a corpse bears no expression whatsoever, another fact that a medical man like Watson would have been well aware of, having seen dead bodies on multiple occasions. This isn’t the only story in which Doyle tries to put this silly bit of fantasy over on his readers. He disrespects his readers in this regard and cheapens the story. Dead bodies do not grimace.
“French windows,” for non-Brits, are not windows at all. They are French doors. Why the Brits choose to call them windows when they are doors is a mystery known only to those Brits who presumably also know what “brain fever” is. . The rest of us can only speculate.
Lovely narration again, and a merciful lack, for the most part, of ACD's casual racisim, chauvanism and gender bias that mar many of these otherwise excellent stories for the modern ear. They, like we, are a product of their times, so allowances must be made.
Yeah true enough, though Victorian England has to be forgiven some of the faults which it had, considering that the time allowed child labour and enormous cruelty in general- I have to say, I was impressed by the conclusion of the yellow face- a way ahead of its time imo, really pleasant, I was worried near the end that it would've been different- I think that ACD sometimes expressed rather elegant and correct ideas, in a way that a deeply bigoted county could understand.
Going too far! Self righteous judgementalism may be what this period in history is noted for in later times. Allowances indeed!. Our universities have degenerated , though, and this sort of thing is demanded of graduates and employees so we must forgive the foolishness.
Greg Wagland your voice and enunciating skills are truly amazing a gift from the literary gods... salute
Thanks Maylay All Day. Kind of you!

I thank you for finding and making these audiobooks free, unlike other ones, this helps me a ton :)
Beautifully read many thanks
So glad to see there are others who struggle not to fall asleep to Holmes( Mr. Wagland's) eloquent and soothing voice.
Thank you so much!!!!!! I’m such a SH fan and these are the best audiobooks I have ever listened to
I like the way you read, without trying to be overly dramatic or mysterious, you don't try to 'do the audiences job for them'.
fantastic Greg. Thank you.
These story’s are truly singular. Each of them more singular than the last.

Greg wagland is a great reader for this sort of story. I think he should have a go at ‘The 39 Steps’ as well.

Ah, The Crooked Man. It's a small wonder that vengeance can turn a man into a monster, especially if he's felt love at one time as well as betrayal.

Language differences are wonderful things, ain’t they? A door keeps people out, and French door not so much!
So what David was she referring to?
It’s a story from the Old Testament portion of the Christian Bible; Second Samuel chapters 11-12.
