- Definitely a fun little adventure when you're in the area of Wheeling, West Virginia. The fun of a "legal" urbex adventure of an unfinished castle combined with walking through the history of the oldest "extant" cemetery in Wheeling!
Did I mention you could add to the excitement with a suspension bridge walk? Yes!!!! you can!
Independant Order of ODD Fellows, my friend. Great video. I love Wheeling.
Getting that Wheeling Feeling!!!... In the early to mid-20th century, Wheeling was infamous for its houses of ill repute.
Cool video, thanks, Jim. 3 chain links mean friendship, love and truth. Whoever has this on their tombstone means he was an Odd Fellow.
Very interesting Jim! Thanks for taking us on a very educational visit to Wheeling.
grate show
I am heading on my annual trip to Wheeling in 2 days and will definitely check out Mt. Wood. Ives been down the National Road past it in years past, but never ventured to the castle and cemetery. I'm also going to explore the old Reymann brewery site. There's a couple of buildings dating to the 1800s there. I've never walked across the suspension bridge, but drove over it several times when it was open to traffic......by the way, there are 2 old train tunnels through Mt Wood that you can at least walk to the portals, and possibly walk inside a short way.....
Come right up north ot Steubenville cemetery they got a lot of history too
I do know there were some graves there that had to be moved due to hill slippage over the years and during major rain events such as Hurricane Ivan. May also explain some of the collapsed stones etc.
OK, what kind of order is that never heard of it
One of these times you plan to come to Wheeling, let me know.
