This is what Classic Sonic should be going forward, HD sprites of the traditional 2D Genesis Sonic aesthetic. This was pretty much the only recognizable art direction Sonic ever had, and it would do a lot to differentiate Sonic and build greater brand identity. Mario has ALWAYS understood this.

I remember seeing the discussions about this on Sonic Retro. The artists would have endless discussions on how to properly display the graphics in HD. They painstakingly recreated and reinterpreted the art to get the final result. Looks amazing and their effort paid off. I love the Sonic community.
If game companies hired the fans who can make quality like this, games would come out more polished and they could develop an even bigger fan base. I mean, whos know what fans want more than actual fans?
Fun Fact! In Chemical Plant, if you do some precise platforming and specific paths, You can find Silver Sonic ( The Silver Metal Sonic you right later in the game.)
2D is sooo much satisfying when they PUT IN THE WORK for animations. Honestly, I don't see why no one is making 16:9 1080p or even 4k spritework for games. I know 3D is easier nowadays, but nothing gets results like this.

They'll just go for either recreating the sprite style like the Christian Whitehead remakes or make it 3D with 3D "classic Sonic" like Sonic Superstars. I really LOVE this style. Everything is hand drawn and beautiful.

@@scepticstream7176 On the Sonic 2 HD TH-cam channel they uploaded a video with Aquatic ruin zone music,and a video showing Shadow in Sonic 2 HD that in the description says Shadow will be playable in the next release and you can see shadow in that video in the special stages. Reminder that the last time the devs updated the site with any new info about this game was back in 2020. I'm legit starting to wonder if it even is being worked on anymore, or if it got eventually silently cancelled and just the attempt at HD-ifying any Sonic game is cursed.
Considering how the development of video game remakes has become popular (for the good and the bad), this would be a perfect opportunity to remake classic Sonic games with this art style.
Im a huge fan of pixel art but this time they really did an unagebale piece. It catchs really good what the creator may have wanted to do if they got the technology. Its a playable cartoon or poster n love that.

They did that, but its the exact same quality. Letting 16:9 be hd would make the two toggle able options, would be extremely cool though
