    Get where Muta is coming from, but I always feel like he approach this subject just looking at the westernised behaviour of man & animals. He never talks about those indigenous tribes (practically free from westernised way of life) and their relationship with the animal world. Some animal activists get on my nerves with the way they go about preaching after it was the "new world" lifestyle that created this warped relationship between us and animals. It's the same mentality viewpoint where westerners talk about over-population in Africa - when what they really mean is "we want to keep living our lifestyle - consume beyond our means" all the while African's consume less in a year than what they do in a week. That's hypocrisy at its finest.

    • @jamdownkernow1064
      @jamdownkernow1064 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good points. Also, intensive farming to provide the rich with their vegetables is often at the expense of animals' habitat. It's not always as black and white as Muta represents it. Some limited eating of animals can be done in a respectful way, on a small scale, locally, which is very different to just mindlessly stuffing your face with burgers and kebabs. At the end of the day, though, us humans have got to the point where our huge population needs to find a sustainable way to feed itself, in such a way that we dont destroy what is left of the natural world. I see this as being mostly plant-based, but at the same time, Im wary of plant based monocultures and even more so of genetically modified plants.
      With obesity becoming a major health issue, maybe the era of mass produced food of low nutritional value and produced in a destructive way needs to end. More locally produced food for local communities, less cash crops for the 'market' maybe?

    • @RootsDaughter41926
      @RootsDaughter41926 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamdownkernow1064 Very much agree with your viewpoint. Although I myself am vegetarian for over 30 yrs, lets not forget that behind the "vegan/vegetarian" movement is exactly some of the same problems we have with meat/flesh consumption. Plant-based diets fuelling and causing destruction of habitats (on both societies & animals) - being a vegan/vegetarian does not mean you are not contributing to some kind of harm somewhere. As you rightly say... it's all about mass production - this is the major problem, yes, going back to locally produced food is the way forward. And to all vegans/vegetarians, if the plant doesn't grow on your land, then you are in some way (albeit inadvertently) contributing to some of the same problems the meat industry has created for health, animals, societies & the environment.

      Yes, we know there is no perfect way to be, in the sense of not impacting other species as we live & breath. But at least the intention of the vegan is to move toward a less harmful way of being, whereas we can't say the same for the vast majority of those around us, who don''t care one iota. On the farming point, that's not our fault, this is a systemic issue. These systems have been in place for a long time and most of us were born into this. It is down to the farmer to make changes at that end and for the consumer to support them.

    I do believe the word vegan means do the least harm. However people of certain Origins and blood types will not thrive without meat. This is where the sacrifice comes from. For us to judge those who need meat on these kind of ideologies is not a judgment that should be made. Any ideologies that divide us even those that seem to be for the good. Are not healthy ideologies. I lived 4 years vegan I almost faded away. That's when I found I was o negative blood type. Please don't demonize 8 to 10% of the population to meet meat because your body does thrive on vegetables. You must balance empathy with self-preservation. God loves you all equal as long as you live by his word.

      To the contrary...there's absolutely nothing virtuous about being a non-meat eater. Maybe you can find a bit of empathy in not slaughtering dumb animals for food, especially those you nurtured as pets, but if your reasoning is that you need to consume them to thrive, then...thats lame. You stated that you made it 4 yrs,.... I am on my 34th year, also being O negative blood type and participated in NY marathon 9 of the last 12 yrs. Its a personal choice so we need not make a religion out of our bad eating habits. Sad to know that the conditional love you receive from your god requires you conform to his/her word that you cannot confirm...real sad.

    Plants and vegetables have life too. Ppl never think of it that way either. They don’t sustain blood life, but they are alive! And when they die, you see the difference like when animals die. We still take lives to support our own lives so there’s still hypocrisy with the vegetarians as well. The highest form of life is seen in the trees which don’t take life but utilizes the minerals in the soil, utilizes the water, and utilizes the sunlight in a harmonious way which allows it to sustain its own life and give life to those creatures that breath in oxygen to live.They also live for hundreds of years. This is a step above eating as a vegetarian to support and sustain our human life. That level is Godly, and man has yet to reach that state of existence. We still need to take life to support of own, thus putting ourselves also on the food chain. So the vegetarians haven’t reached the highest level still. However, it is a step above eating animal flesh.

    So based on the reasoning is all life equal or some life more important than some for example is the life of a plant less valuable than the life of a animal, if it's more valuable there is a problem if it is less valuable there is also a problem if it is equal in value then there is a problem also.if you say fruits and nuts is ok then eggs would also be ok , based on the reasoning but this is not gospel it's just a thought to show how complicated things can get.

      @@razvan955 this is what I mean by arbitrary. You believe it is the length of time something is alive which determines how cruel it is to kill it. I dont. Just because an organism doesn't have a nervous system or vascular system, that doesn't mean it doesn't have a preference to survive over not. Plants communicate, they undergo electrochemical reactions and articulate themselves in response to perceived threats. While plants are not aware of their environment in the same way that you and I are, they clearly possess a preference to not die, just like sentient life forms. I would say it is cruel to end the life of something that can sense danger and react to it, just like Mutabaruka said himself.

      @@razvan955 so you think the ability to feel pain and awareness is where it becomes cruel to eat another living thing then. This is a fair stance to take. In some parts of the world animal foetuses are eaten, if their nervous system hasn't developed and aren't aware, is it cruel to those too?

    Well, that’s your feelings Muta. But energy needs eat other energy, and since man is now at the top of the food chain it’s man who decides what and who to eat . It’s not cruelty to kill for food, for sports yes. Trees are living things, and plants have defenses also, yes they do.

      So you're saying you wish to ingest the energy and spirit of an animal that did not want to die? That was in fear of its life or possibly had underlying illnesses, is that where you choose to get your energy from? Just how you wouldn't eat a bruised and bad apple because its deemed unworthy, you would eat a murdered creature, that you could never murder... mankind is so unjust...

      “Can you define what a food chain actually is? [Probably not.] Let's look for a minute at what food chains exactly are and why they are so important. Food chains help maintain natural ecosystems and natural population sizes of wild animals. Food chains help maintain the natural ecology of areas of the world where they exist and they are fundamental to the survival of those ecosystems.”
      “What we do to animals when we forcibly artificially breed them, enslave, mutilate and exploit them before slaughtering them for our unnecessary desires has nothing to do with a food chain. It resembles nothing like you would see in the wild. It has nothing to do with helping to maintain healthy population sizes or maintaining the ecology of environments. What we do to animals cannot be compared to a food chain because it could not be further detached from a food chain.”

    Context and perception because I am certain Muta among others would kill an insect or rodents for various reasons including annoyance/agitation, etc. Life is in EVERYTHING, and not because a tomato won't scream out upon being plucked from a vine (habitat) wouldn't make it any less of being killed to eat than an animal.
