    It's pretty incredible how one person's choice in one moment can bring us to such a drastic change. It's a shame, hopefully the other species can survive.
    Good to see that a broken hand isn't holding you back from fishing completely, but I hope you heal up quickly.

    Hmm... I know that type of break, that'sa boxer's fracture. Did it a month ago myself. Hoping I don't need pins or anything. How's yours doing now? Did you end up getting back full grip strength?

    If you google invasive species trout and bass are 9 spots apart. The bass coexist with other species in lakes such as osoyoos, vaseux, skaha, and Christina.

    Great video, but let's be honest-fishing at Cultus Lake is pretty slow year-round. I'm a local, and I've been fishing at Cultus Lake for 10 years, but I've never caught a trout. Yes, I've caught pike, sculpins, and, of course, tons of bass. Bass is what currently attracts people to the lake for fishing and fun, and most of the time, it's catch and release. I don't really believe that they have a huge impact. I've fished all over BC, and in some areas, largemouth bass coexist with other species like sunfish and catfish in much smaller lakes, and they all survive. As you mentioned, Cultus Lake is massive, and different fish species live in different parts of the lake, at varying depths and temperatures

      Yes but great for kids and beginners for pike minnow and bass. I personally never caught a trout in there just one bull trout I guess

    Took me a while to learn there's a very nuanced difference between something being "invasive" as opposed to simply "introduced". As long as they don't get out of control and start expanding range or out-competing native species (which bass in BC don't typically do) it's not accurate to call them invasive. We have lakes here on the island where smallmouth have been successfully managed along with their native counterparts, but watersheds like Cultus and the Brunette River will be the real test cases. And they kill off the endangered Cultus sculpin or start spreading uncontrolled through the Fraser, then it's too late anyway.
    All that being said they are super fun to fish, and delicious! If you are ever on the island and want to catch some really big ones, I know all the secret spots...

    • @Go2fishingbc
      @Go2fishingbc  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting point. I think the terminology “invasive” is what the fisheries are using regarding cultus lake. I think it’s mostly concerned with endangered sulpin and sockeye. And they are definitely here to stay. On the positive side, I agree that they are super fun to target. I hear island has some big bass! Sounds fun

      Bass is have been in the Fraser since the 1950s, they need to be treated like game fish. When I lived on the island all the lakes had bass and trout. No issues
