"Love Divine All Loves Excelling." Your singing of the Sacred Harp version makes the modern hymn seem watered down. Amen, brothers and sisters. Sing on.
Love divine, all love excelling, Joy of heav’n to earth come down; Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, All Thy faithful mercies crown! Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Pure, unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy Salvation; Enter ev’ry trembling heart.
I have watched this quite a few times. Mainly because Tollie is a great leader. He gets so much out of the Class. I love the smiles on all of their faces. Each and everyone is having a great time and it shows in their singing. Not often do Leaders get a Yee Hah afterwards with applause.
Such joy in singing to God as I have ever seen. And sweet smiles. would we all have such pure joy every day in our relation with each other and Our Father.
I've watched a fair few others of these including one in Germany. Love the fact that this is slower, feel it carries so much more weight and body. The impact is incredible. I hope I can join one day and feel it in the flesh.
From “The Eastern Harp” (1848), where it is no. 262. Love divine, all love excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down: Fix in us thy humble dwelling, All thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus, thou art all compassion; Pure unbounded love thou art. Visit us, with thy salvation; Enter every trembling heart. [Breathe, O breathe thy loving spirit, Into every trouble breast, Let us all, thy grace inherit; Let us find thy promised rest. Take away the love of sinning: Take our load of guilt away; End the work, of thy beginning; Bring us to eternal day.]
Who feels depressed! And, to borrow a line by Shia LaBeouf about the Mass of Ages that the Pope (?) hates so much, They're not trying to sell me a used car! Thanks performers and poster.
John 10:27-29 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. Romans 8:34-39 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:12 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Ephesians 4:30-32 30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Romans 6:12-23 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servant ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Galatians 6:7-8 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Philippians 2:12 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Titus 2:11-15 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. Matthew 7:19-21 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Whefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Romans 11:20-22 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded but fear: 21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God; on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. John 15:2 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. John 15:6 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Doctrine (the truth about God) is one of our foundational needs. Jesus says we worship in "spirit and truth" John4: 24 "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the spirit and in truth.” Any Hymn or Worship Song that does not contain the truth about Jesus is not worth the singing. If the truth is sung without the hope of Christ in our hearts then our singing will not bless us or praise God. "Music is not worship. Music is a means to express worship, but it is not worship. Worship is the heart going up toward God in gratitude and thanksgiving for all that God has done: that’s worship. Worship is acknowledging God to be who He is revealed to be in Scripture. It is acknowledging what God has done; and in particular, that He has saved us, redeemed us, given us eternal life; and it is expressing gratitude to God. There are many ways to do that; music is one of them. But music is not worship. Music is a means by which a worshiping person expresses his thanks."
