I also regret another of things, but recall that Jesus has covered all sin that we have committed and stop beating yourself up Jesus had much good for you to do
Thank you for this message. I'm a 32 year old mother of 2 with different fathers, never married..so so many regrets. Being grateful for what I do have and the good choices I did make does help, but I agree with pastor when he says God uses this to draw us closer to him. I am the woman whose debts and sins were many. Luke 7:41-50 Jesus ends this parable by saying "thy faith hath saved thee, go in peace" Not regret, but peace. ❤
@Carlie Trogicj telling people that JOHN PIPER HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! @Carlie Trogicj a man alone in a corner with a bible leads to everyone going to hell in their own way. Martin Luther paraphrase. We all need to find sound teachers for ourselves and piper and his ministry is affirmed not only by John macarthur, r c sproul, and thereby the ligonear group and grace community church and attached ministries, but by his constant logical following of scripture without abandoning it. He constantly says that if he says it but the audience doesnt see it in scripture then they shouldn't accept it. He follows that up by painstakingly showing the audience where he got it from scripture. What's more, the extrabiblical sources he references are all powerfully used of God. Men like Johnathan Edwards who kickstarted the great awakening, John Calvin the reformer whose name you know, c s lewos apologist and author of mere Christianity, chronicles of Narnia and other such booms, or g k Chesterton, English journalist, apologist and author of heresy, orthodoxy and other such booms criticising Freudian and Darwinian thought other related philosophies. Piper uses logical methods used during the time of the Greek philosophers, the renaissance and You every time you do math. So, other trustworthy teachers of today affirm him, he's faithful to the bible and he calls on faithful heralds of the word from the past and used tried and true thought processes. Any one of these would be enough if he were a local preacher and didn't have a TH-cam channel podcast and website. But because he's popular he's held to an arbitrarily high standard, or what is your definition of a preacher that teaches the word? Could you provide examples?
I have 37 long years of regret after regret. I became a true Christ follower in March 2020 and since then I have repented of so very many sins. And I deal with another and another and another past trauma that pops up every month since then. Trying to work through all of the sins and regrets is overwhelming sometimes. Jesus help me!
I don’t know what’s worse, your story of loneliness and no children or my story of love but then having many lovers since trying to forget the pain of losing the first love. So so so many regrets. 😟
Thank you for the reminder to forget the past when it leads to a depressive state. I love how you help us apply the Bible to the details of our life, so that we may serve and glorify God in all things!
Hello all, I am in my 50s and struggling with regret. I find it hard to remember good times, though they have been many, but failure and things I would change are always on playback! I know that this is not how God wants me to be. When I am praying and worshipping I find relief from this depression. I know He is speaking to me on this issue and this popped up on TH-cam today. Praise God than He knows what we need to hear. Thank You Lord for all You did for me and all you continue to do I will press on towards the goal. ❤
Thank you even while being a younger man, I too am plagued with regrets and this sermon has given me a message and verses to reflect on to make peace with my past. And it reminds me of Jesus promise to change and work through me so I can be produce good fruit, and live a meaningful life.
are we willing to learn from our failures? I think thats the most important. I have huge regrets. I would do anything to turn back the clock. We all make mistakes, always will, so its pointless beating ourselves up. While sin is sin there are some big traps you can get stuck in. Its if we can learn and keep clear of making that same mistake.
I think one important thing to remember is we do not get in the way of God. We are imperfect humans, yes, but God has a plan for our lives and nothing we can do will change the outcome. We are not big enough to thwart the plans of our almighty creator. Believing we can is actually kind of prideful.
Thank you to Marvin for such an important question, and to Pastor John for helping us think it all through. I will have to listen to this a few times over.
Wow wow wow I needed this very much. My past is so very heavy and I’ve known it not to be healthy to dwell, but also cherish the grace of Christ through the contrition in brings. What a beautiful thing that His love is shown even through His acceptance in our failures.
What a message. I'm literally in tears now as i remember a sin I did to God through my bretheren in Christ. I sorely regret making that mistake and I know things will never be the same for us, but I've already confessed to that person and that person already gave me forgiveness, also through Christ. But still it's weighing me down now to the point that I don't feel like socializing for the months to come so I can wallow in my regrets. But Philippians chapter 3 oh my Lord thank You for the command to forget these regrets and press on to what lies ahed, greater things that I would be missing if I lock myself up in my regrets. What mercy, what grace. Thank You Lord. And thank you Pastor John for this message.

@@Dr.Shankenstein I was raised in a Christian home. My father was a preacher in a little country church. I made a profession of faith at 6 yo and have never renounced it. Although, in my 20s and early 30s I did many, many things that brought shame to the name of Christ. And even to this day, I struggle, like everyone, to walk in faith and purity. As to whether I was *really really* saved at 6? Who knows? Only God truly knows the moment of our regeneration. I don't think He wants us to fixate on a day or an hour, but rather our present state before Him. I think that is why we are allowed to struggle with the question of our own salvation in the face of our great sins: so that the fire under us to persevere and pursue obedience and sanctification remains lit and we do not become complacent.
When and how should we address people that we have wronged or hurt or failed? We are forgiven by our Lord and that is perfect. But there seems to be some obligation (or at least desire) to do what we can towards others. In many cases they will not accept our requests for forgiveness; how do we handle that without staying in bondage towards them? Perhaps John Piper would be willing to address this aspect of the question also.
I'm not John Piper, but the Bible says to confess our sins committed towards people. If they don't forgive you, then they are sinning against God, and that's their sin, not yours. God forgives us when we confess our sins to Him and to those we wrong. He is faithful to forgive regardless of how others respond. Hope this is helpful for you!
Regrets are a good thing. It shows the love of God. Regret is remorse. We should never be downcast with regret but celebrate it. Why, because it shows our heart. God knows our heart and when He sees regret, this pleases Him because regret is pain from the pain of sorrow. Celebrate because God accepts our regets, He wants we His children to be happy. Question, would God be please with regret or would He be pleased if we did not regret? If we did not regret it means we don't care. The love of God is about caring. This is central to the love of God. Caring is what gives us salvation. If God didn't care He would not have sent His Son to die for us so Lord Jesus could take us to God. So yes, regret is a good thing. God bless
I wish I had those kind of regrets. I was a depraved alcoholic. I treated my family horribly. I got sober and stayed sober. I have a great job and my family has forgiven me. But, I wasted several years in the bottle and missed spending time with my wife and kids when they were younger. I look back at pictures of us and just cry. I cannot forgive myself and I hate myself for it.
I dont have regrets. I always do my best in the moment. My best doesnt mean is THE best. But MY best is enough for me. Even if i fall short or or make mistakes... it was my best at that moment. I never regret. And i do make mistakes... i go back in my mind to find how i messedup and i learn a leasson and i make it a goal to never make same mistake in the future. And when i face that same predicament. I make a choice from my lessons leaned. And to me there is no failure. Failure is practice.
The hardest thing to do sometimes is to admit that we are wrong. Alot of our own regrets are due to our own mistakes, when we fail to humble ourselves before God. God did give us the remedy - Repent of our sins and seek to Love God. I'm still learning on this. It requires a huge work of grace of our hearts to admit our sins, some which I have trouble understanding why it's wrong. But I think the good hope is - when we are in the deep pits of regret, there's Jesus who offers us hope as long as we have faith in Him. I think Jesus knows how dangerous sin is. The only way to defeat sin is to put our faith in Him. Let the Good shepherd guide us.
Thank you! I love your message that guilt is to be embraced. We eat chocolate proudly at our church so it is perfectly normal for our kids to not be let’s say athletic. I would not be ashamed of fatness as it is part of being a good Christian to tolerate guilt, and those that are not guilty might not be forgiven and thus might not reach heaven. I myself often have guilty feelings of not enough faith in God but I use this guilt to ask for forgiveness so I can be saved. I don’t think we should try to overcome our guilt but recognise it as part of being a Christian, even if it is difficult to live with. Even if we feel worse with this guilt, it I better to have it and know that we are true Christians. It brings us down, but it brings us together. Together, and down. Only then we can be saved. Being fat, well I’m bot fat to myself but if you choose to identify 558 pounds as fat, then that is your choice, but being like this does make me feel guilt but from my faith I think guilt is not an unholy feeling even if it means pain. It is like turning your cheek when struck as we are taught and deeply a part of our faith of tolerance our sadness and sickliness - including being large. Faith also why I love America 🇺🇸 and we are unique here, we have a responsibility to change the world, and lucky to be an exception in the world - thus we can spread faith to others to help them to tolerate guilt of sin, guilt of leaning away, and guilt of eating chocolate. This brings Christians together and Jesus accepts you too, so if you feel guilty for chocolate, or guilt ou about anything, think about your faith firstly rather than trying to solve the problem. Under god we accept, we give in to our weakness, we don’t try to change our weaknesses.
Your conclusion is a bit off there. In Christianity we are called to actively shed off the old man (our sinful self) and live as new men in Christ. We are called to do the absolute opposite of embracing/accepting our weakness. Repentance and forgiveness comes when we fall while trying to live a Godly life. Not when we embrace sin and the guilt thereafter. That would mean one has made a practice of sinning and they're not really repentant if they know that they're just going to sin again.
What is amazing is everything the thief did as it turned out was for the GLORY of GOD. Jesus made him the ecample of CHRISTS LOVE by forgiving him. He had zero works. Not baptised. Does not even believe the resurrection. That leaves only the blood and his belief Jesus was who he said... AMAZING!!! We agree pastor John. We are all are that thief. Guilty but counted worthy by his blood. Wet eyes. We all who feel this know it hurts but like pastor J said it is good in that respect.. It seems knowing despite trying hard it will happen again makes me sad about that but is likewise something we need to give to Christ. No better teaching on earth than pastorJohn. It could just be toned down or turn more away than are reached. SORRY!
Praying for you. We can't change the past, but we can choose how we move into the future. Who knows how God will use our sins to grow his kingdom? I have many regrets but trust that he is greater than them all.
Yeh the thief on the cross just got his timing rite.. he was forgiven there and then. He did not go on sining. Some people carry on at times sinning after . These are regrets. When we waste time. When people just fail . Or disobeying. If we know what to do and don't do it it's as the sin of whichcraft an do not allow a which to live. Yes many suffering from regrets of many things. It's a good job it's by his grace we are saved an not by our deeds...
What do you do when your regrets are tied to the actions of other Christians who choose to forget so they are absolved of responsibility to restore a situation that has harmed your relationship and your psyche?
I had a pretty clear idea of what kind of man I wanted to be when I was 18-20, and 20 years later I am ashamed to say I am nothing like that man and less like him every day.
I used to be such a jerk when I was younger around freshman year of high school. There was this one girl my friend dated briefly but we’d still post mean comments on her social media long after the two broke up. She was a troubled girl with a lot of problems already. I don’t know if I was much of a Christian at the time, but I’m just worried that I gave her a bad impression of Christianity and just made her more lost. 😕
THE TEMPEST - Lili It gives you comfort just to think that God is by your side To help you with your petty wants, you only have to pray Everything given or denied, it’s part of his great plan But what of when your world falls down, loss of home and pride Nature is a cruel beast, she arrives to ruin and flay She doesn’t care, she doesn’t think, of Gods, of love or man. - The cruel sea, the skies and wind all dark with careless hate Your home picked up and flung aside, the air fulfilled with death Is this the plan he had for you? You still think he is great Perhaps you think that he is kind for sparing most his flock A score of reasons to excuse, indifference, sin or fate It’s still the same, your world is gone, your hopes and prayers a mock. - And as you stare into the sky and bend your knees in thanks Your neighbor’s dead, your town a wreck, what thanks is due to him? Who made your life a misery, no future left for you You’re leaving now, your fate unknown a victim of his whim You’ll join the mass of those he’s scorned, the lost the faithful too Perhaps this trial will make you think, this God cannot be true. - If he is love then what’s this hate, inflicted on mankind It’s not just here, it’s everywhere, Infidel and faithful alike He doesn’t care, he strikes us all, and we’re supposed to find The meaning of the tragedy, the reason of the plan Be grateful for the mercy, mercy no one sees, mercy undefined The game he’s played with human pawns, the game he’s played with man. - The great Khayyam wrote of the game, a checkerboard of lies He knows the fate of everyone and watches from above And you may lift your hands to him, expectant of his love He only cares about the game, the players live or die And if you die that is the cost of being in the game A player faithful might be spared, the wanting to the flames.
Firstly, pray to God and ask for his Wisdom to how should you think and the attitude/virtue to act/handle on your regrets. Isn't that, regrets are the things you should or wished or wanted to happen in your younger years, but left undone until you reached the old age, and cannot do or undo things maybe bcoz of age constraints? There's no longer you can do with your regrets, but to admit that you failed on those things. But you can lift them up to God, and simply admit that you failed in those areas. Ask for his forgiveness, and ask God to remove from your memory the guilt inculcated in your heart, which is your regrets in life. Isn't this regret kinda pride you cannot overcome?!
Forgiveness is the Only Answer. The Past is Past. You cannot go back and change anything. You can asked forgiveness of those you have Wronged and Forgiveness From God..and Forgive yourself..And Learn to Do Better! Having a Clear Idea and Understanding of what Gods Laws Are..Is the First Step. Jesus Gave us Gods Laws.. Repent of your Pride..Anger..Lust and Greed. These sins you will Suffer until you Stop Doing them. Jesus Helps You OverCome.
Sometimes it's really challenging to admit to need Jesus. Accepting peace sounds defeatist. Think the key thing is to realise one's mistake and repent of it.
I have to disagree with pastor: "Life without regret is built on a mirage". Once you become born again of Christ you realise that even the thought of regret is judgement of yourself. When you regret it does not bring you peace within. Looking back on regretful moments means you are making those moments dictate your current peace. The only person who wants you to have peace, is God, regrets comes from Satan who corrupts your peace by having you judge yourself, bruising your ego (which you shouldn't have to begin with), playing God (judging). Stop, and think on this. Regret nothing and *BE PEACE!*
@@freshbeanne It will resonate with you before being Born Again. Jesus said (and I'm paraphrasing) that we should be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. Seek first the kingdom of God and the peace Jesus was sacrificed for, for us to have and it will be easy to follow God in Perfection (No Sin/Breaking of the commandments). Read John through and through and tell me it doesn't change your life brother.
@@freshbeanne I don't do scripture competition, but here's the extract from Jesus in Matthew 5:48 I mentioned before "You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect"... I'm not trying to convince you, but I hope you will one day see for yourself brother. Have a lovely rest of your day.
Jesus Christ went to the cross and now lives to set sinful you free from death and hell. Repent and turn your heart to Him before it’s too late. If He calls your heart, say yes!
In Pipers case.. He needs to Repent. Piper needs to tell people the Truth. Piper needs to Tell people To Obey Gods Laws..not men's laws.. And to Seek God for answers to their questions..instead of seeking him. He is no more worthy to Recieve answers from God than any of You! Do you think God Cannot Speak for HimSelf? Do you think Piper more worthy than you? Do you think Piper Recieves information that God Witholds from You?

And i do make mistakes... i go back in my mind to find how i messedup and i learn a leasson and i make it a goal to never make same mistake in the future. And when i face that same predicament. I make a choice from my lessons leaned. And to me there is no failure. Failure is practice.
Sounds kind of prideful though. No failures and no regrets? We all fail and have regret. If you don't something ain't right there.
Having no regrets is not realistic. It’s also prideful. Go back and listen to the video.
Very helpful, especially the end.
Such a powerful message... 💜✞🕊
Let the Good shepherd guide us.
wish I could like this video twice
Thank you✝️
I’m 49 and feeling this.
Very helpful!
help us Lord to make wise decisions that give you glory
Loved this episode!
With prayer 😇
I pray for our beautiful country.
SORRY!
I wonder if every one of us feels that our sins and regrets are worse than anyone else's.
Please pray for me. I have nothing but regret in my life.
I pray for you. Tomorrow can bring you an unforeseen purpose and everything that happened up to now will contribute to that divine purpose.
Praying for you. We can't change the past, but we can choose how we move into the future. Who knows how God will use our sins to grow his kingdom?
I have many regrets but trust that he is greater than them all.
I do have regrets as well.
I feel the exact same. Will you pray for me? I will pray for you!
We should regret nothing but sin and that should only be temporary. All of our actions are preordained. All of them.
@justus Williams can U give me a scripture to back that up please.
Luke 9:62
"AND JESUS CHRIST SAID UNTO HIM, NO MAN/PERSON HAVING PUT HIS/THEIR HAND TO THE PLOW, & LOOKING BACK, IS FIT FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD." Amen.
GOD bless you and your family, and their children's, children, .... Sir, l am the sinner....l am that criminal on the cross
Which scripture reference is the perfect book of heaven. That we can’t make it more or less perfect?
Thanks
Thank you
I used to be such a jerk when I was younger around freshman year of high school. 😕
THE TEMPEST - Lili
It gives you comfort just to think that God is by your side
To help you with your petty wants, you only have to pray
Everything given or denied, it’s part of his great plan
But what of when your world falls down, loss of home and pride
Nature is a cruel beast, she arrives to ruin and flay
She doesn’t care, she doesn’t think, of Gods, of love or man. -
The cruel sea, the skies and wind all dark with careless hate
Your home picked up and flung aside, the air fulfilled with death
Is this the plan he had for you? You still think he is great
Perhaps you think that he is kind for sparing most his flock
A score of reasons to excuse, indifference, sin or fate
It’s still the same, your world is gone, your hopes and prayers a mock. -
And as you stare into the sky and bend your knees in thanks
Your neighbor’s dead, your town a wreck, what thanks is due to him?
Who made your life a misery, no future left for you
You’re leaving now, your fate unknown a victim of his whim
You’ll join the mass of those he’s scorned, the lost the faithful too
Perhaps this trial will make you think, this God cannot be true. -
If he is love then what’s this hate, inflicted on mankind
It’s not just here, it’s everywhere, Infidel and faithful alike
He doesn’t care, he strikes us all, and we’re supposed to find
The meaning of the tragedy, the reason of the plan
Be grateful for the mercy, mercy no one sees, mercy undefined
The game he’s played with human pawns, the game he’s played with man. -
The great Khayyam wrote of the game, a checkerboard of lies
He knows the fate of everyone and watches from above
And you may lift your hands to him, expectant of his love
He only cares about the game, the players live or die
And if you die that is the cost of being in the game
A player faithful might be spared, the wanting to the flames.
Thank you.
helping people who are hurting you torturing you is so freaking regrets
Forgiveness is the Only Answer. The Past is Past. You cannot go back and change anything. You can asked forgiveness of those you have Wronged and Forgiveness From God..and Forgive yourself..And Learn to Do Better! Having a Clear Idea and Understanding of what Gods Laws Are..Is the First Step. Jesus Gave us Gods Laws.. Repent of your Pride..Anger..Lust and Greed. These sins you will Suffer until you Stop Doing them. Jesus Helps You OverCome.
Eh I usually let the regrets wash over and burden me until there’s no chance of escape and they’ve pinned me down so I can’t function
Great!
Sometimes it's really challenging to admit to need Jesus. Accepting peace sounds defeatist. Think the key thing is to realise one's mistake and repent of it.
I regret going back to my marriage. The only thing in my life I regret.
9:26 Remember!
How can I send in questions.
You cannot repent if you do not see your sin.
@@freshbeanne you cannot be born again without realising you sinned/were in the dark. Thereafter follow God, the light, ONLY. No looking back.
@@loveliveshere7792 Romans 7:15-25
Jesus loves you and died so you can have eternal life. Repent and turn to Him because He is coming soon! He loves you!
Press On. 🙏🏻💕
Have no regrets, the past is the past. Just live on. Look back and, see who you turned out. That is the right decision. No regrets. ❤

I regret getting 34/40 in my exam :(
