  • Despite numerous stumbling blocks leading up to the release of No Way Home including a temporary ending to the MCU/Disney and Sony deal, Covid protocols and the uncertainty that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be willing to return. But it all worked out in the end with a pretty crowdpleasing experience at the time and a box office to the tune of 1.9 billion dollars. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review

    Honestly it’s a surprise this film is as competent as it is if you look into the making of it, actors weren’t signed on until week of filming, constant rewrites, covid precautions and Sony moving this before Dr Strange 2. Ultimately it works for me as Holland still has a personal story and the cameos are handled well, so I can look past the weird parts like Ned having powers and the whole moving having a weak set up that could be solved in a conversation between Peter and Strange

    • @bigdawg3989
      @bigdawg3989 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      Although it is a bit weak honestly it works with the character growth. Peter realizes the danger being Spider-Man poses towards those he loves. That danger won’t just go away even if this current situation is resolved. IE simply wishing away the problem while still allowing them in his life would be like putting new paint on a wrecked car.

      PLUS THEY PUT TOGETHER THE RAIMI SPIDERVERSE (wasn't supposed to be connected to another universe) WITH THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN VERSE (also wasn't supposed to be connected to another universe and also was bad) WITH THE MCU!!! THAT'S INSANE AND IMPOSSIBLE AND THEY PULLED IT OFF!!!
      Sure, Dr Strange fucked up the spell by being an idiot, bumbling into it without talking to Peter first, but that's a pretty small problem in the overall scheme of things.

    • @AnnDVine
      @AnnDVine 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @SchulzEricT How is it "insane and impossible" exactly? They just reused characters from those movies and told us they're from an alternate dimension, it's not like they folded them in at all organically. They could do the same with any other movie ever made. Like C-3PO could have just shown up and they say "wow, like from the Star Wars universe!" and wow cool now Star Wars is in the MCU

      I think Mason is bang on, that it's about his ego and proving he is the sorcerer supreme, like a regular sorcerer but with sour cream and diced tomatoes.
      Strange has to figure out how to magic the escaped villains from Peter's rolodex back to their universes, so he puts Spider-Man on cleanup.
      It's at least internally consistent. Peter beat all of them in each movie. Each has a motivation that makes sense. Mostly. Doc Ock still doesn't but don't worry about it.

    I think that the whole "with great power comes great responsibility" line from May still works, it's just a slightly different lesson. It's not so much that Peter mustn't fall to hubris and use his powers selfishly or suffer the consequences, but rather an assurance that he was doing the right thing. That even if it's hard, he has the power to shoulder that burden, and thus, it's his responsibility to do the right thing no matter the cost to himself. Ben's death was due to act of selfishness, whereas May's was due to selflessness.

      Except one of the core themes of Spider-Man is Peter's guilt. He does something wrong and it leads to his uncle's death, so he goes neurotic and tries to never let anything go wrong again. I mean, uh, learns that he has great responsibility.
      In this, he is already acting with responsibility, and it gets his aunt killed. The lesson you learn there is don't help people because then your aunt dies. That, or that reformative justice doesn't work.

    The biggest lesson I’ve learned watching the MCU for all of its entire existence is that an interconnected universe is hard to do when you constantly have things in creative limbo rather than just having preplanned films and stories and sticking with it . Once it started making a Disney a lot of money they only seemed to care to replicate the success and not realize the success was due to any proper planning. The later MCU films and projects don’t work on second viewings is bc the illusion is obvious. It’s obvious they don’t really have these ideas planned out and that they constantly make reshoots and re-edit them to make the most amount of money

    My theory is that, in some early stage of this movie, Tobey Macguire’s Peter Parker had given up Spider-Man to parallel Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man giving up Peter Parker. Tom Holland’s character arc (along with all three Spider-Men) was learning a balance between their two halves.
    I think this is why Tobey Macguire shows up in street clothes and why there is a weird insert shot in lab of Andrew Garfield asking where his suit is. Of course, Tobey would wear the suit in the final battle once he learns to embrace that side of himself again.
    What makes this odd is that Andrew Garfield’s parallel arc seems still intact. He learns that Peter’s emotions is what makes him a hero and that’s paid off from saving MJ. Meanwhile Tobey’s arc is virtually nonexistent.
    My guess is that either Tobey or test audiences didn’t like hearing his Peter Parker gave up being Spider-Man, or they didn’t want comparisons to portrayals like Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi who had a similar arc that was divisively received.

      He’s one of the few Peter Parkers in any medium to have a happy ending. Tobey Peter seems to be pretty comfortable with his dual life, and his growth from Spider-Man 3 is that Spider-Man no longer consumes his personal life.

    Regarding Maso's assessment of great power comes great responsibility and the prior two movies- I get why he cites to them, but neither have lasting, weightful consequences in the classic comic sense of "Parker Luck." Liz is never heard from again in the next two films, and Peter never shows any sadness about the breakup post-Homecoming. In Far From Home Peter gives up the glasses and then has to get them back to destroy them, and the movie ends with his identity being revealed publicly; while the climax certainly handles the consequence of giving up the glasses, the reveal of Spider-Man's identity doesn't feel as consequential as one would expect it to feel (yeah he's booed a few times in public and gets a rock thrown thrown through his window, but his friends are probably off to college fine and the Damage Control stuff seems to have minimal impact on the plot). Personally I thought losing his two best friends was a meaningful thing to happen to Peter that will likely carry significant weight into the next movie.

    - cool red and black suit that harkens back to the earliest comics? Nah, we’re going back to red and blue
    - Spider-Man that actually uses high tech gadgets for once? nah, go back to a homemade suit
    - Spider-Man who actually has a solid support structure because he doesn’t lie to everyone about his secret identity? Nah, make everyone forget who is and that they ever knew him
    - Michelle Jones is MJ in spirit, but not literally? Nah, reveal she’s had a secret last name this whole time so she’s literally MJ Watson
    - Has his own fresh rogues gallery? Nah, have him fight all the literally same people we’ve seen before

      What about Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Man?
      I think they are their older versions pulled from the moment in time they were about to perish too?
      Tobey Maguire sounds like Peter A. Parker's life and Andrew Garfield sounds like Peter B. Parker before the Miles interaction and life style change.
      So, my question is. Were Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Man about to Die before they showed up?

    I love the Spider-verse movies so much, but even when Into the Spider-verse first came out, people were joking/worrying that Marvel and movie execs would take the wrong lesson from its success, instead of how people loved it for the great characters and phenomenal animation
    Sure enough, we've been living in Multiverse hell ever since...

    My biggest thing is this shouldve been a two-parter. End the first one with Tobey and Andrew showing up, then open part 2 with showing their POV in their universes and how they got transported. Then we couldve gotten a whole movie of them all together instead of just extended cameos. And we also wouldve gotten a peek into the state of their universes and what they've been up to all these years

    9:22 I'm guessing that, in the original version of this (before it swapped places with Multiverse of Madness), Dr Strange refuses to help and then Peter goes to America Chavez, and it's her that messes up the spell. As she already has multiverse powers, that would make a lot more sense then Strange breaking the multiverse by trying to do a memory wipe that has nothing to do with any other universes.

    This was the turning point for the MCU for me. This movie soured me on their movies. I truly understood what Scoresese was talking about when he called these movies "theme parks" just the absolute incoherent movie filled with phony storyline, dialogue, performances and cameos made just so people can cheer in the theater, i felt like i was watching deadpool the amount of self-referential jokes they were making.
