I love Bana. As a Bills fan, and watching the Saints vs Collingwood draw....the Saints are the Bills. I have 4 in a row losses, but that draw the getting blow out in the replay was brutal. I feel for Saints fans.
Eric is the greatest supporter. He bleeds red white and black. He's one of us. One thing he didn't mention. Is not only have Saints won the least premierships, they also have the most wooden spoons by a very long way. They have almost double the spoons of the team with the second most spoons (Nth Melbourne, but they're on track to get another one this year)
I’m a Fremantle Dockers fan and feel Eric’s pain. We started in the AFL in 1994 and have yet to win a premiership, so following them has been a roller coaster of emotions. To put the Saint Kilda misery into proper perspective though, remember that their club has been around since 1876 and back then there was only 8 teams but they’ve still only won a premiership once!😮
Amen mate, same boat. When we played Hawthorn in the Grand Final in 2013, it was a game that on the stats outplayed The Hawks throughout the game which Fremantle could have won, but couldn't capitalize on the scoring. Very confident that this year in the 30th Anniversary of the club, the Freo boys are on their way on creating something special. So far so good.
If you want a taste of Australia's Superbowl, put aside ten minutes and watch the highlights of the 2018 Grand Final. Heck, skip to five minutes in, but watch it to the end. One of the greatest games of all time
I hope he gets to see them win a flag in his lifetime. There is no greater feeling in the world when you team raises that cup. I’ve been lucky enough to see my eagles do it twice in my lifetime.
Followed the saints all my 63 years, born in to it, love em until the day I die. I've never celebrated a premiership but when we were at our worst we celebrated like we won a flag maybe 3 times a year. Seeing those same old grand final celebrations every boring year I almost hope I never see us win one because then the dreams over.
The four St Kilda losses - 1997: Up for 3 quarters only for one player to kick 5 goals (semi-equivalent to touchdowns) in the last quarter. 2008: Best side all season, bombed numerous chances in the Grand FInal (Superbowl equivalent). 2010 (Draw): As Eric mentioned, 5 more minutes and we win. 2010 (replay): Totally outplayed, players were shot mentally from the draw. I haven't since gone back to watch any of these games until we finally win one - which isn't guaranteed in my lifetime! I'm 43 by the way haha.
I’m a West Ham supporter for 43 years now in England and know we won’t win the premier league so when we lost the 2006 FA Cup Final on penalties to Liverpool was devastating after leading 3-2 into injury time I chose Buffalo Bills as my NFL team I wanted a team that’s often an underdog Sydney Swans are my AFL team
The Bills definitely fits that description. They blow out their nemesis in the Pats in what is the single most dominating game in NFL history. Then they go to KC punt once in one of the best games in NFL history only to lose in OT. They lost on a blown call on a "lateral" in the Music City Miracle and then go almost 20 years without a playoff birth. I got to tell you blowouts in the SB is better than losing in the last minute. I can watch Bebe stipping the ball from Leon Lett. I still haven't been able to rewatch the 13sec game.
Life long Western NY'er. My teams are the Bills and the Leafs! Life long fan of both teams, unwaiveringly so. I was born in '78 so I've seen both teams go from bad to magically good in the 90's to bad to pretty heartbreakingly good again at the same time....again!
As a die hard Collingwood fan, I wish we hadn't had beaten the Saints in 2010 and it was any other team instead. Always had a soft spot for the Saints. Love that AFL is a topic on a US podcast!
As a West Coast Eagles fan, the blow out in the Grand Final is much better than a close loss. In 2015, we were blown away and I knew the result early in the 2nd quarter. In 2005, we lost by 4 points and that loss still haunts me til this day. Give me a 10 goal loss any day.
As a Swans fan I can empathise over being blown away in Grand Finals, but at least I got the joy of seeing us win two (2005 (our first in 72 years) and 2012), but 1996, 2014, and 2022 still sting for how bad we lost. Then we lost close one's in 2006 and 2016... 2006 was very similar to what Eric said about the drawn Grand Final, another minute or so and we would've won. 2016? Umpires reamed us, what a setup. AFL got their fairytale with that one.
Bloody oath i go for the west coast eagles been devastating couple of seasons for us. And like Eric said its never relaxing. Even if ya up by 42 points in the last qauter which is 30mins in our game thats nothing. You still cant relax. Fastest game on field in the world.
St Kilda FC was founded in 1873 & have won the premiership only once, in 1966, by one single, solitary point. One point. 150 years for one pennant. The Bills, founded in 1959, In terms of pain, they are not even in the same universe as St Kilda. There is not a sporting club in the world that can measure up to the ineptitude of the Sainters.
I think that’s generous… St Kilda make the Bills look like winners. 1 premiership in 128 years. They played my team 19 years ago 1 win away from the grand final. With a history like theirs, their fans thought they were a moral (mind you we were 2weeks from ending our own premiership drought of 72 years). You’d think you’d learn to be humble. Ran over them in the last quarter like a semi trailer does to dead rodent on the highway. We used to be local rivals: enjoyed it immensely.
I'm a supporter of the team that drew with them and blew them away the next week.. 😂 still grateful 🙏 st kilda isn't a good team, but eric is there loyal fan ❤
I think it would be better if you couched the question of how you'd rather see your team lose a championship game as "not knowing anything about the outcome" rather than "knowing the outcome." The hypothetical outcome (a loss)is preordained, but one would imagine their reaction as if they did not know it going in. Try that.
Is this enjoyment of 2010 because St kilda is one of the teams that put you Collingwood supporters through the nightmare of a string of multiple grand final losses between 1958 and 1990?😏😂
@@garystrahan4601 you just said Saints beat us multiple times in the grand final... when they only have 1 flag? Are you sure you know anything about AFL?
A better AFL comparison for the Chicago Cubs are the Western Bulldogs. For decades they were an emblem of futility and then out of the blue in 2016 they won it all. About six weeks later the Cubs won the World Series. As a fan of both I literally could not believe it. I don't know which was the greater shock (probably the Cubs)
As an AFL fan I'd rather it be a blow-out. It's such a fast paced, high scoring sport where it's not uncommon to score 100 points a game, so to lose by one or two points (a goal is worth six) is heartbreaking. I keep going over the game in my head thinking things like "if we hadn't given away that free kick we would have won", or "if ______ had nailed that tackle we'd have had another shot on goal" or whatever. In a blowout though, nailing that tackle and not giving away that free kick wouldn't have determined the outcome so I don't stew over it. Close games (less than a goal between them) are too nerve wracking for me. My team lost by 6 points two weeks ago and had a chance to kick a goal to level the game (the ball was in the hands of our best goalkicker) but we gave away a free kick and subsequently possession of the ball. I went over that infraction in my head for hours afterward, I was so angry. We wouldn't have won, but 2 points (for a draw) is better than none. Give me an arse kicking over a close loss any day.
"The value for money is absolutely second to none. One of the other Sony Walkmans..." "What? With presets?" "Yeah, presets, and mega bass...85 dollars Australian."

I can't watch that game. It still hurts. Bet they can't watch that draw knowing that they lost.

Watching my team not even turn up and put in a half-arsed effort is way more infuriating than losing a close one where they've given it a good crack.
As a Bills fan. I'd rather it be close. I hold the loss to the Giants in higher esteem now than the others.
But I can rewatch Bebe running down Lett in a blowout loss. That Giants game still has a scar.
The Music City Miracle scared me for 20 years.
Even the one final St. Kilda did win, was won by one single point in a heart stopper finish.
