I used to be a dj and I used music production to advertise myself (and my partner, we were a duo) . I started producing around ~2010 where house music was not mainstream at all yet and did it semi professionally until about 2017. The tracks didn't have much reach, in fact the reach was extremely limited. BUT whenever the event organizers had to choose which local djs to book, they chose us, because we had our own music, which made us seem more professional & marketable.
I switched careers though and I am now a software developer. Much more stable and less stressful. DJing/music production is completely overrated, less than 1% of djs/music producers are considered "rich". The rest is struggling hard, especially if you consider that staying relevant for decades is almost impossible. And then on top you have to constantly improve and keep up with new technologies like AI/spotify etc.
it's a nice hobby, but most people who want that as a career, even if they do "make it", they eventually switch to something else anyway.

Wow what a story! Thanks for sharing it! I appreciate it heaps! I mean you have to love it to stay in the game long term. And I am pretty sure big house music DJ’s like James Hype and John won’t just stop because it is difficult to stay in the game. They love it. That’s why they’re still in it.
