if you don’t have silk wraps you can tear a really small part off a tissue (tissues have normally two or four layers, only use one layer) and apply it on the broken part right after nail glue, then when it dries you can file down any bumps/tissue parts and apply regular nail polish! i think it’s easier to only apply the “patch” where it’s needed instead of having to cover the entire nail
Wow, you are one of the best "teachers" or demonstrators on TH-cam all-time. I have watched thousands of instructional videos over a wide range of topics. I had to say something because you are THAT good!
Broke a nail, searched TH-cam for a good video, was wowed by this vid, went to subscribe to the channel and realized I’m already following! You are good at so many things!
Sandra Pereira tea bag works wonders for nails completely broken off. I know women who have never lost a nail in years using this method. Only way they lose a nail is if they actually break it off and can't find it. Other than that never not all super long and perfect 10.,how long are yours now?
With nail glue and tea bag, one does not need to buff and remove layers from the natural nail. It's a lot smarter. This technique is still good to know. Always good to know what your options are. Great lighting, focus, and camera angle. tfs!
Can I use piece of teabag instead of silky linen wrap? I need to find alternative. I can't buy silky linen wrap in my country, no one has it. And also amazon doesn't ship to my country. Thank you for this tutorial
Yeah you can, but make sure it really soaks in the gel because when I tried it, I did everything a little too fast and my nail ended up looking more bumpy and filled with air bubbles than smooth and shiny like in the video :)
I'm a guy, so I probably won't need to do this, but I'm just so amazed at the amount of time and effort you put into your videos! They're informative and filmed well. Keep doing what you're doing! And remember...you're awesome ;) haha

Thank you so much. You are so knowledgeable and pleasant about nails! I had a small tear in my index fingernail that just turned into a big flap! ( bled too) UGHH if only I had repaired it before it ripped 3/4 of the way across my nail. I'll be using glue, silk wrap, and builder gel cured with a 72 watt lamp. I am just not a false nails girl so knowing how to repair our natural long nails is a must!
@@abetweene The initial tear was not painful but the rip sure was. I was sliding over my chair and somehow it caught or got pushed and RIPPED 3/4 through 😢. Still kicking myself for not repairing that little corner tear before that could happen.
This looks like a good method for me, as my nail splits vertically in the center all the way down to the skin til it hurts. I have to use acrylics just to keep my nail from spliting.
Niecy DMS I have one nail that does the exact same thing!! I've never used the kind of gel she has - only gel nail polish, so I used nail glue and a piece of a tissue to lay over and under the split. Tissue is much thinner than tea bags and silk wraps. You might need to buff the repair part slightly but not your nail. I hope that helps you! 💜💅
You are always a lifesaver when I need to know anything about nails. I swear. 😊 Now, can the gels be any type of gel (base and top coat), or does it have to be hard base and top coat gel? Thank you for another informational video ❤

Yes, you can do whats called a gel overlay. You would do exactly what im doing in this video minus the silk wrap. Just apply a few layers of gel, file, and buff. abetweene thanks! One more question (or perhaps more than one), when the nail is fixed, does the silk wrap+gel stay on "forever" as your nail grows out? Or does it wear out over time? And lastly, does this just soak off with acetone if we don't want the silk wrap on anymore? I break my nails often but love having length, so I love this easy fix!
This is a great tutorial very simple to follow and nice and detailed. You've also explained what this silly person did wrong, I didn't glue the small tare on my nail back to the rest of it :/ My silk wraps are pre-cut with adhesive so they don't stretch as much. Is the adhesive likely to affect how the gel applies?
hi! i noticed that you used a full piece of fabric to cover the nail. i've seen other videos that only use a piece to cover only the broken bit. does it really matter? thanks!
blackstarRH hi! long story short...yes it does. Using a full sheet is nessecary because im trying to marry two pieces together that are no longer bonded, so for a break as severe as mine going all the way across you want as much reinforcement as possible.
I have one dumb thumb that just constantly breaks or peels. It's already a super flat nail and is very bendable (it's unlike all my others). I've been trying to keep a polish on to get it to grow out since it's been working but as soon as the polish comes off it breaks again, which stunts it even more. I'm so sick of it, and I can never get silk wraps to stick. The glue takes way too long to dry
I’m curious why you buffed over your clear gel before adding a top coat gel...? I thought it wasn’t necessary to buff clear/builder gel before adding gel polish (as long as u leave the inhibition layer) ....? So I guess the other part of the question, is, why did u remove the inhibition layer and then buff for polish application? Was there a secondary reason u were bugging the gel? Or am I just wrong on the proper application techniques (which is entirely possible 😅)?
I remove the inhibition layer so the sticky uncured gel doesn’t transfer onto my file and I used the file to shape the overlay that i created. when you simply paint gel on layer by layer, it actually adds height and dimension. So, I want to streamline that shape before adding polish so the nail doesn’t become bulky and look like a chicklet rather than elongated and natural.
Does this work over gel nail polish? I know the video said to remove the polish first but I don’t know how to remove gel nail polish effectively. Do you have a video for that too.
I found out an easier way that you can do. If you have a nail that is hanging like hers, you can cut a bottom of a tea bag and place it on your nail and then cover it with top coat nail polish and then when that's dry, you damp a tissue or toilet paper with water and press it on the tea bag on your nail. :)
Hi! So the gel you are using is basically what you put on before you add led polish to your nails? I used the red carpet manicure structure it's called is that good to use with the silk? Thanks :)
Sister Tina yes, that would be fine. If you have a builder (thick) gel, that'd be great, but if not a clear base gel (the kind you add before color gel) will work. Depending how thin it is you may want to add more layers. Be sure to cure between each layer.
Hey there so I've been using soak off gel polish lately but recently I broke 2 nails I fixed them but they kept breaking so I gave up and cut them so when they finally grow out could I do the gel overlay first to make them thicker so their stronger . And could I still put the gel polish on top like I would normally do on my natural nail?

+Pindy Soggi I would use the same technique with hard gel but would omit the base gel with acrylic. just stick to your usual acrylic application and apply the silk wrap with nail glue
+Ife Osuoha Yes, I have used that product, which is actually what I used to glue my nail back together, but it is not gel. ASP is resin. Resin is cured by spraying an activator, and gel is cured in LED/UV light. The ASP product is just labeled for marketing.
+abetweene oh that's weird because I bought asp resin which smells exactly like nail glue but it doesn't have a brush so then is asp resin and lightless gel the same? the resin has a resin activator that can be used with it while the lightless gel has a gel cure that has to be used with it
I only recently began using a 180 grit file and i keep hitting my lower cuticle area and it's cut up and sore. Do I just need to get more practice or are there any tips/techniques to avoid hurting the cuticle? Thank you
@@abetweene Oh goodness, no not to buff the skin... I was asking... how the heck do you avoid the cuticle when buffing? It doesn't hurt when I use my little pink buffer but with a 180 grit file it's another story entirely. I hurt my lower cuticle ( if that's what that area is called right at the base of the nail). No matter how careful I am, I seem to hit it...
ohhh ok, your buffing the surface, got it! Id recommend a 220 grit sponge file to buff your natural nails. its much smoother and wont cut into the cuticles
because the multiple layers of gel that we paint on for structure create a shelf, like a stack of paper. theyre relatively flat and uniform, but in order for the fix to work (meaning withstand use or pressure in our daily life) we must mimic the natural curvature of the nail. that curvature includes C curve and an apex. they give a natural appearance AND function otherwise the nail would break again easily.
I've seen people also use silk resin and super glue, do you think clear gel works best...or do you not think it really matters. I have both super glue and clear gel polish and want to know which will work best on my poor broken nail!!!
If you use a good quality clear gel, that doesn't lift its is my personal favorite. But you should never use superglue on your body or nails. Nail glue is only $2-5 at most. Get some. Also using the gel builds a structure over the break, allowing it more strength in case you bump into something or apply to much pressure.
Any LED or UV gel lamp will work... which is based on your preference. I personally prefer LED because it cures in less time. I suggest browsing your local beauty supply store or my personal favorite, Amazon.com.
yes, u can still polish your nails with regular polish or even gel polish. You just need to file the color off for gel and use non acetone for regular polish
But i broke my nail deep, and i’m hella scared of it falling off. I’ve been using duct tape for a few days now, and nothing is really happening.. does anyone know what happens to it later? 🤔
Mine nail broke half way my nail bed, it hurts and I'm scared too. I'm going to try this or something tomorrow that I can go to the store to get what I need.... 😏
I used to do this a billion years ago. Except with fiber fox polish and smoothing with nail polish remover and rubbing it smooth with my finger. Lol. Gel will be easier and faster. Plus I would but the paper while paper is on the nail. Sometimes just half of the bal.
I learned how to do this bAck in beauty school about 17 years ago lol. But we did it only on the broken area only and we used glue. Does gel work BEST??
+Kam Vincent The gel I used is only available online and LA, but you can. certainly find other brands, nail glue, and silk wraps at Sally Beauty Supply
I like the video I just don't understand the importance of the paper? can you please explain it to me again? I have that paper wrap for your hair can i use that to repair a broken nail
Kecia Fitts The silk wrap just acts as a mesh or tape to unify the two split areas into one "sheet". And the gel reinforces it by building more strength.
+Elaine Kay Its very similar (if not the same) as nail glue. It comes in an applicator bottle or you can brush it on. Its generally used for silk wrap nails. The one I have is this: oceannails2.storenvy.com/products/10283457-brush-on-resin
Some discomfort can be expected as the gel is holding your nail in a c curved position stronger than regular nail polish which its likely not accustomed to. If the pain persists please remove the gel and/or see a doctor if you have concerns.
Buffing your nail before you started is actually really bad for your nail. It removes layers and makes your nail weaker witch can result in your nail breaking. For more info on how to grow your nails long, strong, and healthy go check out +simplynailogical . She has A LOT of great nail tutorials and videos on how to take care of your nails so they don't break!
Im aware that buffing removes layers of the nail, but the grit is not significant enough to make mine thin. Buffing is also required for the gel to adhere.
+Verica Vuckovic I know that it is required to apply gels or acrylics but there is such a thing as buffering to much. By buffering to much you can file down to your skin and have no more nail in that area witch can make it so your not able to grow nails anymore. I'm just trying to speed this word and make it so no one has to go through this horrible pain.
if you don’t have silk wraps you can tear a really small part off a tissue (tissues have normally two or four layers, only use one layer) and apply it on the broken part right after nail glue, then when it dries you can file down any bumps/tissue parts and apply regular nail polish! i think it’s easier to only apply the “patch” where it’s needed instead of having to cover the entire nail

What kind of Lamp do you use to cure the nails. I am not in the US, can you recommend one please.
Any LED or UV gel lamp will work... which is based on your preference. I personally prefer LED because it cures in less time. I suggest browsing your local beauty supply store or my personal favorite, Amazon.com.
Can you paint a fixed nail or will it dissolve when you take the polish off with non-acetone remover?
yes, u can still polish your nails with regular polish or even gel polish. You just need to file the color off for gel and use non acetone for regular polish
abetweene Thanks for the information!
OMG HUN I WAS LIKE 😰. WHEN I BROKE MEH NAIL LIKE TODAY AND RN YOU MADE DIS VID 😘👌🏻 THX HUN
lpsperfection TV Lol, perfect timing. It was meant to be
But i broke my nail deep, and i’m hella scared of it falling off. I’ve been using duct tape for a few days now, and nothing is really happening.. does anyone know what happens to it later? 🤔
just cut it as low as you can comfortably. It will grow back out. Just give it a few weeks.
Mine nail broke half way my nail bed, it hurts and I'm scared too.
I'm going to try this or something tomorrow that I can go to the store to get what I need.... 😏
would you please to say if works for the silk wraps a nail glue instead of gel resin? thank you!
Kate Zhalis yes, glue will also work.
abetweene thank you a lot!😉
I used to do this a billion years ago. Except with fiber fox polish and smoothing with nail polish remover and rubbing it smooth with my finger. Lol. Gel will be easier and faster. Plus I would but the paper while paper is on the nail. Sometimes just half of the bal.
I learned how to do this bAck in beauty school about 17 years ago lol. But we did it only on the broken area only and we used glue. Does gel work BEST??
really depends on the product youre using.
Does your nail grow back together? Or does like a new nail form underneath the broken layer?
a broken nail cannot mend... like hair, its dead. This holds the nail together until the nail grows out and you wish to cut the broken portion.
abetweene Thank you
Awesome video! And great channel! Just subscribed 😁
+Ashlei Mccauslin Thank you! 😘
Now I am in mourning for all the nails I said goodbye to thinking they couldn't be saved.
Can you use regular nail polish on it after fixing it ?
yes
@@abetweene thank you for replying 😁
Was that a normal base coat or a builder gel
normal base gel
how long does the gel last?
i broke a nail
ive used a tea bag and superglue.
i usually refill or remove it after 3-4 weeks
Where can I buy all this stuff without ordering it online because my nail is broken and it needs to be fixed asap
+Kam Vincent The gel I used is only available online and LA, but you can. certainly find other brands, nail glue, and silk wraps at Sally Beauty Supply
is this gel polish or builder gel? you didn't say.
There isnt a difference really, so you can use either. The one i used is the description box.
nice ! and you explain so well! Thanks
Could you make a version that doesn't use gel? I don't have a curing lamp
you can use resin instead, just keep in mind that its not as strong or at all flexible so it chips much easier.
love your videos ♡
Awesome tutorial, thanks sooo much!

+Liset Davila you too sweetie!
Kecia Fitts You could try it but cloth is woven so its much stronger than paper.
girl you know me but is this ok for under you age like 12 uears old maybe because my nail skin was about start dripping blood
if your bleeding you should let the wound heal before using any nail enhancements
What kind of blue nail color you have applied
H Kakkad Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Tidal Wave
What did you use to 'glue' you nails back together?
resin. I applied it with a dotting tool because it was a bit thick. Regular nail glue will work fine as well
+abetweene . What do you mean by resin?
+Elaine Kay Its very similar (if not the same) as nail glue. It comes in an applicator bottle or you can brush it on. Its generally used for silk wrap nails. The one I have is this: oceannails2.storenvy.com/products/10283457-brush-on-resin
Thanks for that.
When do I add the color gel during this process?
after the extension is filed and shaped.
You can also use teabag.
My cousin broke her nail today. Totally going to tell her to watch this!
Liddy Smiles perfect! thanks 4 sharing

Om goodness u replied to my comment!!!!!😄
😘
What type of paper used I have a doubt
silk wrap
I did it but the next day my nail started hurting so much. Every time I touch my nail it hurts and I don’t know why is like that. Can someone help me?
Some discomfort can be expected as the gel is holding your nail in a c curved position stronger than regular nail polish which its likely not accustomed to. If the pain persists please remove the gel and/or see a doctor if you have concerns.
abetweene Thank you so much!
can i use gelish sculpting gel??
Yes
Verica Vuckovic quit a few people actually. it isnt very uncommon in the US. anyway im just spreding the message around!
Can I just put the gel top coat and not use the lamp?!???
without the lamp the gel doesn't dry, so you have to cure it.
abetweene I see. Thanks
Which type of glue is this
its ASP resin
