I've never read the Bible or followed any religion. I'm incredibly amazed how that one book has so many interpretations. I believe in the All Mighty & i don't need any book or religion to prove me different.
I just wanted to share something here for anyone who will read this. I am speaking from the perspective of someone who has been a dirty sinner and struggled with years of shame, guilt, restlessness, and godlessness. For many years I have turned away from religion. Then one day I something deep within me said how about you just give Jesus a chance instead of what you been doing which is getting you NOWHERE. Then I prayed to God to ask for forgiveness through his son Jesus Christ. I then knew that trusting in Jesus actually works. My theory as to why is because it gives your higher self something to work with. A mind that has nothing to lean on is doomed. When you turn to a higher power such as Jesus the lord, you can experience divine forgiveness EVEN THOUGH you feel as though you do not deserve it.

All the 10 commandments must be obeyed and out of love. Its not a suggestion, Its a command by God. His commandments are eternal from everlasting to everlasting and have NEVER changed. Even the 4th Saturday Sabbath. Its God's ONLY Holy day he blesses and we will be Worshiping Him every Saturday for Eternity. I choose to keep and obey ALL GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS because I LOVE THEM!! The Father, My blesser, The Holy Spirit, My guidance, and Jesus Christ My Lord and Savior!!

Taking the Lord's name in vain isn't about using God's name as a swear word or saying "OMG." You take the Lord's name, using His name, in vain, when you claim to be His child, grafted into the vine, a believer of Christ, but your fruit, your works, show that you don't belong to Him. I take my husband's name because we are one family. I take God's name because I am His adopted child. If I am not married to my husband, I don't get to take his name. Likewise, if I'm not God's child, I don't get to take His name. Legally, I could change my last name to pretend that I had a relationship with anyone (for example, if I changed my last name to "Kardashian,") but I'd be taking that name in vain. I have no relationship with the Kardashians so I'd be taking the name in vain - clearly using it on false pretenses to increase my standing among other people. The Pharisees constantly bragged about being Abraham's seed and the chosen people and children of God. Jesus Himself accused them of taking God's name in vain as He said they were of their father, the Devil. ETA: Grammar.
I can see your point but I believe Jesus specifically and separately deals with this issue in multiple passages, as you specifically reference, outside of the context of the ten commandments. I believe the poster's interpretation of the commandment is the correct one because practically if I were to utilize your parent's, child's, or any other loved one's name in the form of or substitute for a curse or swear word it would probably be very offensive to you. How much more for God who is deserving of all worship and reverence? This also holds true to the jewish tradition where they would not even utter God's name outside of worship, some today wont even write it unless in the context of a holy and reverent manner. Therefore using omg, gd, or the like would be a vain use of God's name
We have all lied, stolen, looked at a women/man to lust for, hated someone, dishonored our parents. We all deserve hell. God being just and righteous, needs us to be punished, like a judge sentencing a criminal. Eternal punishment. But, God also being merciful and love, sent His Perfect Son to die for us to pay our debt and died the death we deserve, but not Him. When we put our trust in Him to pay for our debt and repent (take off everything that’s hindering us from the greatest treasure on earth) He’ll lovingly embrace us and accept us just as we are. We can’t do anything to get salvation, it’s all a gift, free Jesus got raised from the dead, defeating death and now has power over everything and will be with us forever! that's the Good news! that we were dead to our sins but now are alive because of Jesus Christ! may the Grace of God be with you homie

Sade Sol Yes, we are keeping the Sabbath today, but not the Sabbath of old that we used to know in the Old Testament (which is being regarded as the shadow of things to come). We who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ had been included in the *REST* that God promised to all who believed. “ For we which have believed do enter into rest”. “For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. We as christians still follow the Ten Commandments. All Ten to include the 4th commandment which a lot of christians has mistaken from Sunday worship instead of Saturday which is the correct day of the week for us to worship Him. Even in Revelation 12:17 ( NKJV) says we need to follow the Ten Commandments, that means All Ten not just some. God has never changed from the beginning to the end, most christians believe that the Ten Commandments were done away, but they can't prove it. God Bless.

The “true” Sabbath is Saturday. Yet as a Christian I was taught Sunday (The Lords Day) was the day of rest. So...do you rest on Sat. or Sun? Also what about people in public service (law enforcement, nurses, doctors, firemen, etc.) who must work on Sat. or Sun. or both? It is written that if you break one Commandment, you break them all! To me it looks like there are nine commencements in the Bible. The first one and the second one you mentioned are the same thing. In the Catholic church on the other hand the tenth one you mentioned has been split into two commencements to make it a nice, round number of ten.

I've never read the Bible or followed any religion. I'm incredibly amazed how that one book has so many interpretations. I believe in the All Mighty & i don't need any book or religion to prove me different.
I just wanted to share something here for anyone who will read this. I am speaking from the perspective of someone who has been a dirty sinner and struggled with years of shame, guilt, restlessness, and godlessness. For many years I have turned away from religion. Then one day I something deep within me said how about you just give Jesus a chance instead of what you been doing which is getting you NOWHERE. Then I prayed to God to ask for forgiveness through his son Jesus Christ. I then knew that trusting in Jesus actually works. My theory as to why is because it gives your higher self something to work with. A mind that has nothing to lean on is doomed. When you turn to a higher power such as Jesus the lord, you can experience divine forgiveness EVEN THOUGH you feel as though you do not deserve it.

The 4th commandment began at creation. Genesis 2:1-3.
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.
3 And God BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY, and sanctified it (made it holy) because that in it he had RESTED from all his work which GOD CREATED and made.

The SEVENTH DAY, identifies our TRUE creator. There is only one! GOD only BLESSED ONE DAY IN SCRIPTURE the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH (rest).

Taking the Lord's name in vain isn't about using God's name as a swear word or saying "OMG." You take the Lord's name, using His name, in vain, when you claim to be His child, grafted into the vine, a believer of Christ, but your fruit, your works, show that you don't belong to Him.
I take my husband's name because we are one family. I take God's name because I am His adopted child. If I am not married to my husband, I don't get to take his name. Likewise, if I'm not God's child, I don't get to take His name.
Legally, I could change my last name to pretend that I had a relationship with anyone (for example, if I changed my last name to "Kardashian,") but I'd be taking that name in vain. I have no relationship with the Kardashians so I'd be taking the name in vain - clearly using it on false pretenses to increase my standing among other people.
The Pharisees constantly bragged about being Abraham's seed and the chosen people and children of God. Jesus Himself accused them of taking God's name in vain as He said they were of their father, the Devil.

I can see your point but I believe Jesus specifically and separately deals with this issue in multiple passages, as you specifically reference, outside of the context of the ten commandments.
I believe the poster's interpretation of the commandment is the correct one because practically if I were to utilize your parent's, child's, or any other loved one's name in the form of or substitute for a curse or swear word it would probably be very offensive to you. How much more for God who is deserving of all worship and reverence? This also holds true to the jewish tradition where they would not even utter God's name outside of worship, some today wont even write it unless in the context of a holy and reverent manner. Therefore using omg, gd, or the like would be a vain use of God's name

We have all lied, stolen, looked at a women/man to lust for, hated someone, dishonored our parents. We all deserve hell.
God being just and righteous, needs us to be punished, like a judge sentencing a criminal. Eternal punishment.
But, God also being merciful and love, sent His Perfect Son to die for us to pay our debt and died the death we deserve, but not Him.
When we put our trust in Him to pay for our debt and repent (take off everything that’s hindering us from the greatest treasure on earth) He’ll lovingly embrace us and accept us just as we are. We can’t do anything to get salvation, it’s all a gift, free

Yes, we are keeping the Sabbath today, but not the Sabbath of old that we used to know in the Old Testament (which is being regarded as the shadow of things to come). We who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ had been included in the *REST* that God promised to all who believed. “ For we which have believed do enter into rest”. “For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. We as christians still follow the Ten Commandments. All Ten to include the 4th commandment which a lot of christians has mistaken from Sunday worship instead of Saturday which is the correct day of the week for us to worship Him. Even in Revelation 12:17 ( NKJV) says we need to follow the Ten Commandments, that means All Ten not just some. God has never changed from the beginning to the end, most christians believe that the Ten Commandments were done away, but they can't prove it. God Bless.

The “true” Sabbath is Saturday. Yet as a Christian I was taught Sunday (The Lords Day) was the day of rest. So...do you rest on Sat. or Sun? Also what about people in public service (law enforcement, nurses, doctors, firemen, etc.) who must work on Sat. or Sun. or both? It is written that if you break one Commandment, you break them all! To be honest, this has been a point of discussion for a number of years. Thank you pastor.

We know Jesus as God very own word (John 1:14)
We know he done God will (John 4:34) and fulfil God commandments (Matt 5:17)

Therefore, let's not look at the Sabbath as just a Jewish custom or a act of religious view/ preference, for its written "There is a way that seems right to a man, but to the end of it is Death" (Prov 14:12)
so, now look at this Rest sabbath rest as part of the way the truth and life for eternity hens why God said remember keep it Holy (exodus 20:8) for it written be Holy for I am Holy (1pet 1:16).
So we are now to know Jesus Christ is this Rest for he is Holy! and in him we must observe him as this Rest and practise this sabbath Rest.

No one follows any of them its impossible only one man did Jesus Christ our Lord we are saved thru having faith in jesus not the 10 commandments jesus fulfilled them they are no more it's such a shame people dont read and want to understand the word of god .
To me it looks like there are nine commencements in the Bible. The first one and the second one you mentioned are the same thing. In the Catholic church on the other hand the tenth one you mentioned has been split into two commencements to make it a nice, round number of ten.

I'm good with the mandatory 10 commandments and as for the 613 back when Jesus was alive how about an updated list that related to living in 2022.
10 commandments its a big wall for many Christians cause they say are saved by Grace of Christ.
From my interactions...People don't really have an issue with the 10 Commanments... its just THE 4TH COMMANDMENT... 🥺

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem (save, justify, vindicate, offset, retrieve, recover, get back, repossess, rescue, buy back, to purchase the freedom of, to ransom, to atone for) them that were under the law.
The 10 commandments are the character and standard of God it's a duty for us to do if we want to pleased him. Without doing them we can't completely pleased him.
