    That lingering on that poor fella who didn't get his cake just broke me. It's trivial but it hits deep. Well done.

    • @isaaccruz8131
      @isaaccruz8131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I don’t think it’s trivial at all. The same character is shown at the end noticing Cookie and following him and King. I’m pretty sure that character is the one who kills Cookie and King, hence the two skeletons in the beginning. I’m pretty sure him not getting his cake is the reason why he hunted Cookie and King down, so yeah not a trivial shot at all

    • @phossils

      reichardt shows us over and over again how trivial matters are really prominent matters. a butterfly flaps its wings and causes a tornado, etc. she captures the very root of chaos

    The way Reichardt lingers on minor characters or holds on props, costumes, environment, it reminded me of walking through a history museum, sometimes stopping to stare at a portrait of some unknown pioneer.

    One thing I really liked about First Cow was the costume match from the modern day to the past, which helps strengthen the connection and continuity between the two times. Both the lady at the start and Cookie are wearing a hat, a scarf, a coat, and some kind of vest. The styles massively differ but that mirror imaging really helps.

    I could see the aspects you mention in this video the second time I saw the film. something I would like to add is that when the film is in its last act we can see our two protagonists, one injured and the other tired, but we can realize that there is a hunter who is close to them. my point is that when i finished watching the film i said two options. king lu kills the hunter and leaves him a cookie with the hunter's leather together and takes the money and goes on with his life or, and this is the ending that I like, that the hunter finds both one dead and the other asleep and it kills him. It is something that leaves the viewer free thanks to the perfect edition. Amazing Video Btw and Merry Christmas and Happy Nee your my Friend.

    I used to work for a mobile pancake/crepe company.
    It involved me driving around london in a beat up old van, desperately looking for parking spots so i could unload all of my equipment and lug it into whatever office i was catering for that day. One morning i was around the shoreditch area hurridley making my batter in the back of the van. This involved me standing with the back doors open, back to the passers by, frantically beating my batter in a bucket with a large hand whisk. Flour and milk everywhere. I look over my shoulder to see which poor unfortunate is witnessing this suspicious event when i had to double take and it's none other than Toby Jones! He was looking very dapper too. 3 piece suit on and hair spiked. I obviously stop my van workout, say hello and tell what a fan of his work i am. He looked a bit perplexed as to what i was up to, but anyway thanked me and carried on his way.
    The gig went ok, apart from I ran out of spinach for the galettes.
    Has anyone else met Toby Jones in unusual circumstances?

    Propmaker blew it: Uncovered bones are more yellow in color and there would be patches of corpse wax on them (fat converted to a bar soap like substance from the acidity in a forest flor) and most of their clothes if they are from1700-1800 (unless they were buried naked). These bones look weathered, like they have been baked in a desert for a century. For some reason I know about this!

    • @MariaVosa
      @MariaVosa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the type of soil they have been in, and how much weathering was done during decomposition as they were not buried deep in the ground.

      It was an artistic choice probably to create more contrast

    • @Tore_Lund
      @Tore_Lund 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MariaVosa Not a homoside investigation, but if they were buried shallow and uncovered by animals, they would be weathered, but the bones would not stay in an orderly fashion. If they had been left undisturbe with a foot of dirt on top, docomposing leaves would have them at 2-4 ft depth today. Either way, this looks odd. I've been on a dig in a Cholera 18'th century cementary, and there was clothes bits tendons and vax had preserved some of the bones with only a slight yellowing. This was in a city park used as emergency cementary, that had to be cleared for laying steam pipes, and the earth was slightly acidic, like a forest floor is.

    I don't know anything about this director but I wonder if he is an empath. There is a difficulty with empaths in filtering who is the "protagonist" in everyday life since the emotions of the "extras' tend to take up as much space as the main characters, the emotional membrane being permeable to everyone around them, not just those of people who "matter."
