The Autoprop was a complete waste of money, time and after two years I removed the failed prop from my boat. Any fouling on this prop changes the angle of incidence and the blades are no longer at the same angle and severe vibration results. My friends boat with an Autoprop vibrated so badly that his strut broke and his boat had to be pulled to be repaired. The bearings also failed on my prop and locked up, so the prop was unusable and luckily I was able to get a standard prop and carry on. There are many well proven adjusting props on the market and the Autoprop is not one. The prop should not be on any cruising boat....
I will watch with interest to see if this becomes an issue. Numerous members of my club have had them for many years, and none reported this problem, so maybe it is related to the area you are in and how long you leave the boat in with no maintenance to the underside? Mine is coming out soon for it annual scrub and fettle, and I will look at fouling and vibration before it does. Thanks for the heads-up on this potential issue. I am sure Bruntons will read your comments as your opinion and not a statement of purported fact. One question: how does fouling change the angle of incidence?
