A kid at my school called the Scandinavian Emigration era "Cholera Vikings" and started blasting this song. Its a great song and I study the Scandinavian Emigration Era so yeh. Skibidest song ever
I've just checked out the Ultima Thule version that people talk about and saying that's better. Jesus fucking christ, don't you have ears? That guy's voice sounds like a buzzsaw, when Blad's voice is higly skilled and he is hitting every pitch and tone perfectly, he is a real professional. Not to mention the other instruments and overall music composition. It's really needless to compare them, the difference between the two bands can be measured in light years.
Highly subjective. I love both versions of the song. Ultima Thule's I go to whenever I feel like listening to something gritty and gravely. This one is perfect when I feel like something airy and exalted. No need to shit on any of the performances when they're both amazing in their own respects.
I don't understand anything at all to the lyrics (yay I'm french~), but I love it anyway :3! The Ultima Thule's version is great to, but I prefer this one for the singing ~
Then check out the Elina version :) th-cam.com/video/BkiHh3YCrvU/w-d-xo.html And the Ultima Thule version is Ultima Thule - Hel version. The female singer is from Hel.
The great migration to America. However the grass wasn't greener on the other side and they all were filled with regret or died on the journey. So this song is a lament written by a woman who made it to America. There is an English version called "we sold our homesteads" also performed by Falconer.
When the banking elite drained us on all money and resources 150 years ago just as they are doing right now, they rewrote history and called it "bad harvest years"
Many of the families, mine included, did not want to leave, but had to leave. It was either continue to at that time suffer, or make the voyage to better opportunity.

Does anyone have piano notes?
what does this song refer to in swedish history?
Swedish migrants leaving the country for a better life, going to Britain/US, in the 19th and early 20th centuries
Correct, my family was a part of the Swedish Exodus in the early 20th. Many left, even though they did not want to leave.

The crazy thing is that some Swedish nationalists use this song as anti-immigration propaganda. O_o
+Adam Leckius I have noticed. Insane...
+Adam Leckius they do? . Thats bullshit tbh. Covers can be made from anyone . Focus on the song not the one who make covers.
never heard such bullshitt.....
When have they used this? I want a link or something to look further than your comment.

@@Red21Viper Actually this song specifically is about the journey to what is now Canada
