As a broke student, I get my "luxury" kick from getting the occasional mid-range/high end item on sale 😂 I do have one of the Natasha Denona minis! It felt a bit like buying into a little piece of the fantasy.

Charlotte Tilbury is very worth it to me.
    1) It looks great on me
    2) It is my go to & I feel great wearing it
    3) it last me a long time & is a little luxury I give myself.
I gave up drinking, I gave up smoking, so this is a healthy treat. I suffer from depression & I am disabled. Many days I hate the way I look in the mirror. So if I can find something that makes me enjoy a mirror again, it is worth any amount.
It is my way of boosting my self esteem when I look good, so it is good for my mental health. Now, I prolly wont spend $54 on one shadow- but if it looks good on me, my credit card is out.
Name brands don’t sway me, but come on, I want the boujie feeling. Makeup is all about looking & feeling your best. It can make you look like anything you want- even a different person. It can be a way of escaping everything I hate when I look in the mirror.

I can absolutely relate. I have so few “vices”, so I feel like I can justify a $40 lipstick every once in a while. I struggle with some chronic health issues, and I really appreciate how devoting some time each morning to doing my makeup (especially using those luxury items) can make me feel just a little bit special on an otherwise unfortunate day.

Her makeup is very flattering on me. I have so many palettes, but for a quick, classy look, I use her quads. The new Dreams quad is a fantastic formula. I don’t buy all her quads or palettes, but the ones I have I definitely use. That magic cream is so soothing to my eyes and the flawless filter and setting spray are really excellent products. Totally worth it to me

  • @marielle7505
    @marielle7505 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

Is it worth it? That's a great question, and the answer will be different for everyone. To me, I cannot imagine ever buying a single shade of eyeshadow for $50,-. It doesn't matter how good it may be. On the other hand, I love my Charlotte Tilbury quad, wich was also $50,- but for four (quite small) shades. That one is a big fat yes.
But luxury prices are getting out of control, and I have my limits to what's reasonable.
I did fall into the hype about the gold Tom Ford lipgloss, and bought it even though it's a ridiculous pricepoint. I felt so stupid, so disappointed when I found out that it is, off course, just a gloss. Nothing special. That was a serious lesson.
I do have to say I don't really care that much about luxury packaging, I'm sure that helps.

First of all, love the ladybugs. Theresaisdead I blame for my chantecaille addiction. I’ll get something from them and it is soooo good. FYI they usually have a 30% off sale in July, to celebrate the founders birthday. Pat’s eyeshadow is so good but I never pay full price for stuff, she seems like she is always having a sale. However her shipping is really slow.

I am almost never tempted by "luxury" makeup. It's not my vibe in terms of the looks you can create, and I'm not into spending $90 on one thing. I love mid and some high end things but only if they fit into my colourful esthetic. I'd rather have more options in my collection than a couple of expensive products!

  • @dawndee7952

For me, personally, and this is just me....no judgement on anyone else. I'm really trying to redefine ' luxury'. I already have so much makeup. Mostly drugstore and so High end and midrange. I very often lust after these luxury brands.....but I have to keep reminding myself that its Mostly to create a fantasy version of me or 'treat myself ' reality is.......I've never met a makeup product that changed my life.....and chances are.... dropping more $$$$ probably won't either. Reality me works in a supermarket and mainly uses my makeup to wear to work in that supermarket. Nowadays, in this financial climate, if I choose between £40 an eyeshadow quad or filling my car with petrol.... I know what I will choose. But that's just me. My mama used to say " you can't buy the person you want to be ". So I get my luxury makeup fixes by watching creators discuss them on TH-cam lol x

I love the idea of splurging on a luxury makeup item that is bought while on vacation as a souvenir, or to wear for an event and then you can enjoy it afterwards. However I have yet to actually do either! I almost bought a CT Quad to use as my "go-to" eye look but I couldn't find a color combo that I loved enough to justify it. Maybe someday.

I usually spend a decent amount of money on my personal staples. Skincare, foundation, cream shadow, and bronzer. I spend much less on like blushes, eyeliners, lipstick.. I doubt I would ever pay a ton for a powder shadow because I don't wear them often.
I appreciate brands like Roen who are a bit more expensive but have a lot of shadow quads as opposed to a single shadow.
I appreciate that you're one of the gurus who walks the line between luxury and lower price points quite well (you just paired a Chantecaille shadow with a Pixi liner which is fucking awesome) You like deals and if something is expensive you reassure us that we don't have to buy it, it's not terribly essential. But it is also your job and you are reviewing this stuff for us so no one will fault you for spending your money. It definitely helps me out when you review a wide range of price points. Thanks, Lauren!

I love makeup and I do have a handful of luxury products in my collection, and a lot more on my wishlist. I have two of the Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duos from Chantecaille, but I haven't had them very long and I'm still deciding whether or not they're worth it (they're stunning, but I usually need to double prime my eyelids, but I'm yet to try it with just a MAC paint pot - if anyone's curious, the shades I have are Kenya and Monte Carlo). I have the Chantecaille Real Bronze in Sirena, and it is beautiful, and I love the formula, but I'm also not sure if it's anything special once it's on, but I still love it, and I would probably buy another shade if they came out with one that's a little lighter and slightly cooler toned. I have the Future Skin Tinted Moisturiser (shade Aura), and I think it's definitely worth it. The shade range sucks, but it's a beautiful formula, it works really well with my combination skin, it has just enough coverage to even out my skin tone but not wash me out, and it doesn't sit horribly on my skin - it's one of those products that kinda looks like skin, like a 'my skin but better' type of product. It also has algae extracts - my skin loves those. I also have four of the Lip Veils. Obviously I think they're absolutely worth it, despite the price tag - I have four of them! They're beautiful and hydrating, they're flattering over dry and textured lips, I've never had problems with bleeding or feathering, they sheer out nicely but can also be built up to be super opaque, and they have baobab oil, which nourishes the lips. The shades I have are Iris, Azalea, Portucala, and Elderberry, if anyone's curious. Something I will say about the Lip Veils, though, is that the L'Oreal Colour Riche Shine lipsticks work very similarly and cost a lot less, they just don't have the baobab oil or the elephant drawings on the packaging. I do prefer the Chantecaille, though.

Luxury and prestige used to have their place, but indie took over me. Tom Ford is so good, they are almost worth the outrageous price, but indie delivers excellent quality for less. Sydney Grace has gorgeous, reliable satin and metallic neutrals for a few dollars each, and one of my all-time favorite shadows is $3 Looxi shadow. For the price of the one perfect Tom Ford quad, I could buy tens of eyeshadows, plus commission a super personalized magnetic palette from Etsy to hold them. No contest!

And I don't mean light creasing - I mean at the end of the day it almost looks like I purposely left negative space on my eyelid. The only way I can wear those eyeshadows is to put another eyeshadow close in color underneath so that when PML creases, you can't see it as easily.

There are SO many colours and are so pigmented they last all day for me. No fading. So for me that makes the $54CAD price worth it.
That being said being in Canada (not USA) is a big difference. Since shipping and tax buying from an indie brand will still cost the same as high end that is already in my city. To me, it makes more sense to just buy high end, amd not risk an additional $70cad import tax at delivery

The Naked Bronze cream shade is a bit too dark for my everyday looks, but also stunning. I definitely tend to use them with a different topper shade (typically reaching into one of the big Pat McGrath holiday palettes), but I like the powder shades in the Tom Ford Duos for days when I'm going for something really light and easy - they just don't really work for me with the creams.

I agree with you about your personal preference, finances and if you will truly love and use it!! I will pay more for great quality that works and makes me beautiful/happy skincare, perfume and haircare products…like the new Dyson that I’ve finally decided I’m going to treat myself to!! I’ve spent money on higher priced makeup items…especially palettes and regretted it immediately. I put much more thought now into what I spend my money on and if I will truly use it and love it!!

Caudalie… the grape water mist is so much better and so hydrating, especially after sun. I think I’ve repurchased a few times the past few summers- not a fan of any of the Tom Ford shadows at all … and I got 3 for free from my sister who works for Sephora-

im thinking about it and I don't rly have any luxury makeup 🤔 the closest thing would be a charlotte tilbury quad that i bought on a whim. I did 0 research and idk why lol I usually try and see swatches beforehand. It's all shimmers but I don't LoVe it, I just like it. The packaging reminds me of something I have from revolution. Something that's been on my radar for a minute are the glowy lip balms from dior, but that's mostly bc I have the same initials as them.

I recently fell in love with the Givenchy sheer velvet lipsticks.... oh my Goddd. Lemme tell you. They are Soo Damn Beautiful! This is my perfect matte lipstick formula! $38 each! I only wish there were more shades 😎 (and that the lids were not velvet* ---> you can buy different lids for $15 each 🙄 ... I have SO MANY lip products but can actually see myself using up a whole tube of this stuff - so that makes it worth it to me.

I bought the Chanel Water Fresh Tint from The chanel website because I wanted the whole fantasy and the packaging is straight so cheap not even glass. It does not feel luxurious at all but the product is divine.

I love my Charlotte Tilbury items, my many Patrick Ta blushes (my favorite) and my Pat McGrath Velvet Kohl eyeliner. Quality products that hold up to the heat, humidity and long hospital shifts. I dupe when I can, makeup Revolution has a Tilbury cream bronzer dupe, Clinique has a Venusian Sunrise dupe and Stila Camouflage is very similiar to the just released ABH Nouveau palette.

I bought a ton on ford quad recently and liked it at first but then the formula seemed to be drying out so the shadow was crumbly (it is the new cream formula) so I was like oh hell no! Not worth it at all.. Charlotte Tilbury is my favorite and believe all her products are worth it ❤️

The only luxury items i have bought are from Samantha Ravndahl's brand Auric. I have enjoyed everything I bought. I think the glow lust is particularly worth it. I feel like I could use it endlessly, year round and love it. The smoke reflects I think would be more worth it if I did not own so much eyeshadow. I bought one of the holiday colors and I don't like it as much because I have to work with it more than the neutral colors.

the chantecaille rhinoceros shadow looks so unbelievably gorgeous on you, and now i have to get one of those singles, because those shimmers are incredible. the TF looks gorgeous but i there’s no way in hell that i could ever afford them. the CT eyes to mesmerize in oyster pearl has been on my wishlist for years now. i have never been drawn into chanel’s makeup for some reason. i was gifted a gucci lipstick for my birthday and allllll of a sudden understood hannah’s such high regard for allllll of her gucci lipsticks. lol. loveeee her!!! btw, i love the way your eyes are twinkling ✨

Love the look, those Chantecaille shades are amazing and that's the one I'd pick as well. Bougie for me: recently I bought a Natasha Denona lipstick at full price, the famous Amarosa shade to go woth my mini Love palette and though it would pair beautifully with the Retros as well. I won't lie, when I opened it I was severely disappointed, because the color looked like this amazing soft pink with a little hint of taupe/lilac online, and instead, it was a pink nude. It wasn't what I wanted at all, but now I love it for the great nude lip it makes on me. The formula and packaging are lovely, no complaints there.

For me it's Charlotte Tilbury stuff. I started with a mini lipstick set that included Pillow Talk and realized how great the formula really is. Then I was sent the Pillow Talk eyeshadow quad and then I just bought a highlight, bronzer and blush...

I have a few expensive makeup products, I usually get things on sale, or with points. I just most of the time decide - is this worth having it end up being washed down the drain at night? Ha ha! Most of the time it's a no when you get $50 and up. Love your beauty outside and in, Lauren.

I definitely covet all the high end things, but at the best possible deal. End result, I don't own many. The highest end item I own (my makeup collection is pretty minimal), is the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray. I really do think it's much better than a lot of the drug store ones I've tried.

Hi, Lauren! What’s the Color Tattoo dupe for CT Oyster Pearl? I LOVE the color of the CT Oyster Pearl eyeshadow, but sadly, a while ago, I got three of these CT pot shimmery shadows, including Oyster Pearl, and they irritated my eyes and creased badly, even with primer, within 30 minutes of use. I had to return them 😭 And I’ve been on the hunt for an Oyster Pearl substitute ever since.

I'm curious to know about luxury brands outer packing, for example the box that the Gucci lipstick comes in. The bullet is beautiful, but is the box? Because that is what the recipient of your gift sees first. It's on my mind because I gifted a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick recently and the box was a disappoint (to me). I hadn't seen the box until I purchased the lipstick. It looked cheaper than it should, in my opinion. I still gifted it, she loved it. Just an experience I had.
