- video by Russell Brown aboard his Pacific proa JZERRO, sailing at 17.8 knots, on auto-pilot! HD version here: • Pacific Proa JZERRO sa...
The apparent wind is only 10.1 knots, with gusts that push boat speed to 17.8 knots.
At 1:22, the video repeats with some freeze frames to improve readability.

NOTE: this version replaces one uploaded eight days earlier, with better editing of the freeze-frames.
Just an epic boat. .. wish there were more of these.
I rode on this boat. Quite the thrilling experience.
Thanks Russell.
The howling wind makes musical steps!
Only to people who know bugger all about sailing..... ie if you moving into a 10 knot breeze at 10 knots how much wind then would you feel on deck? 20 knots apparent wind, so the boat is creating wind by moving forward. The same thing is felt on a bicycle when pedalling into the wind. In this case more wind = faster boat speed.
@crxmad No. The only way to _COMPUTE_ true wind speed is to measure apparent wind speed, apparent wind angle and boat speed. True wind speed cannot be measured directly, unless standing still.
Damn that's cooking
the instrument measures apparent wind speed
Boa tarde, meu nome e Renato, moro no Brasil, uma dúvida? Quanto tempo você gastou para construir o JZerro? Muito bacana este veleiro, parabéns.
Fair point, your quite correct.... my apologies.
Sweet ride!
Boa noite, muito legal este proa, parabéns, não consegui visualizar o piloto automático, você poderia me enviar detalhes do mesmo? Grato
Saudações
Renato from Brasil.
I want one!
Very cool 😎 👍👍
COOL!!!
Technology !
I like smart people...
awesome, what kind of boat is this exactly
I think it was made by a Kayak builder, its know as a Proa, it is a traditional Pacific and Asian hull setup with an out rigger for balance.
It's a Pacific proa. Link added to description. pacificproa.com/brown/jzerrophotos.html
Ммм Я Восторге )) матчта по середине?(
Try holding the camera steady for a while.
All well and good but doesn't it get away from the original concept of the Proa? All that plastic and Gee Whizz eletronics to do? ? ? ? go fast with little to no payload - not so much sailing but more showing off how clever and rich you think you are!
This boat sailed from New York (in January, 2022) to San Francisco (in April, 2022) around Cape Horn. It's not a traditional proa, though it shares some features with them. By modern standards, it's not expensive. By the way, it's a wooden boat, not plastic.
@@JosephOster….and getting a bit old
@@markthomasson5077 It was almost 30 years old when it sailed around Cape Horn last year!
