    I think the song tells a story of a kid having a big heart and dream, let home to be on his journey that is full of uncertainty. To the parents, every child of them can’t be hold still and they are meant to leave for their lives. But what can the parents do? They can only say: are you home? How was your journey? Leaving home is not always an easy thing or happy thing. But that’s growing up

    He knows how to construct a beautiful melody within a complicated structure. He's intense and may not be for everyone....but most would have to admit he touches them...as well as entertains. He's the consummate artist. A painter who paints with his voice. I love him. Whether he likes it or not. I will follow his journey.

    When I first discovered his songs, I didn't find the subtitled versions. I just felt the music, the voice, the performance. They were speaking directly to my soul. Discovered the lyrics later and I was absolutely blown away.
    But maybe you can start by just listening to the music first, without the struggle of keeping up with the lyrics. Just allow yourself to feel the performance. You can always focus on the lyrics later.

      For sure. I see people snap for reasons that aren't valid all the time. I just wonder what is going on in their lives to make them angry and mean, then I sympathize with them even if they are rude. I wish people could discover art, expression, and develop their own outlet. Everyone has worth and something of meaning. My dream is performing on stage. But I know I have to be realistic. I find escape in music, I paint, I write, I make these videos. I will travel across the world next month with my girlfriend and I can't wait to meet and experience everything.

      Mace Around The World sort of related...empathy...just had to mention a story I read where there was an angry young man on a subway, threatening everyone with violence. I was sure someone would be injured or die. Then, an older woman grabbed his hand and held it tight, not letting him go. He broke down right then and there. Made me cry. Just thinking a little empathy goes a long way. For everyone. And back to our man Hua Hua? I just love him and his deep lyrics. I appreciate his work. He is a gem.

    I've seen at least 4 different translations for this song. Chinese are masters in nuances and word weaving, it's like they are painting using words. There's a lot going on there, but everything is placed seamlessly that it gives a complete story according to our own interpretation, not just patches of lines jammed together here and there. I gave up breaking down the lyrics scientifically (I don't know the right word, sorry. This is the closest I can get) and just let them kinda turned into scenes in my head. I ended up having slightly different interpretation with all four translations, but I think that's fine too.
    Thank you for your reaction, and nice outro as always😊

    • @stanleyho8009
      @stanleyho8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Gayatri Anggraeni He also said he didn’t want to say the meaning of the song, he wants people to have their own interpretation and feeling with the song. And yes Chinese is pretty complicated and poetic, it’s hard to translate in English because sometimes it can mean multiple things and it in English it might not describe the word perfectly.

    • @edukid1984
      @edukid1984 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You really hit the nail on the head there regarding the Chinese language. I am of Chinese descent and speak&write Mandarin with near-native fluency, and am also reasonably proficient in two other major Chinese topolects (Cantonese, used widely in Hong Kong and the Canton/Guangdong region, and Hokkien, of which Jay Chou's native Taiwanese dialect is a close offshoot). All three variants share the same writing system and set of characters for the most part but each have its own eccentricities, and when spoken can be often unintelligible to each other. Jay Chou is a living legend who is the original singer of Nunchuks and Dad, I'm Home. The Chinese language is quite complex and context-heavy by Western standards. In fact, there is a viral forum post where it was pointed out how in Chinese a simple phrase comprising a sequence (in exactly the same order) of just a few characters, can mean 4 different things, ranging from innocent to risque, depending on context or how it's broken up when heard/read by native speakers. It drives us nuts too sometimes lol, and in a darker twist had caused people to be executed in the past during Imperial times (for lèse-majesté crimes). Also, we have a long history of excellent lyricists because during the medieval period (circa 10th century AD), a form of lyrical Chinese poetry called Ci, often meant to be sung by contemporary musicians of the time, grew wildly popular among the scholars and educated elites.

    • @stanleyho8009
      @stanleyho8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      edukid1984 You wrote some kind of essay lol. I know 3 Chinese languages: Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka. Though I know the three languages quite well (not really good because I don’t live in China or HK/Taiwan for that matter) but I sometimes have trouble understanding the poems. Mostly because Chinese poems are just very complicated. The words can have multiple meaning depending on the context as you mentioned and some words are just not comprehendable for me. Especially when I try to translate it to English or Dutch it just gives me some simple words that doesn’t represent the word in Chinese. So vocabulary-wise Chinese seems to have more words to describe stuff and since I don’t speak Chinese often here my Chinese doesn’t improve at a level where I will ever understand those words entirely... 😂

      @@stanleyho8009 Indonesia has many local dialects and some of them have subtle but deep layers, but I'm living in a major city so we use standard Indonesian. It's very straightforward, no nuances whatsoever. That's why I'm always fascinated by poetic languages. Really beautiful :)
      I tried to learn Mandarin but the only thing I do well is memorizing the characters. Making a sentence is another beast so for now I'll have to settle for reading and listening only.

    • @gayatrianggraeni761
      @gayatrianggraeni761 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edukid1984 Thank you for the insight! I always learn something new :)
      The context-heavy aspect is why translating is difficult. I majored in Japanese in uni, and my lecturer once said that no language is superior, so actually we can always find the right word in other languages. The challenge is that we have to be proficient in both to be able to do so. The different approach to expression between Chinese and English is the highest wall I think. And yes, Chinese poems and lyrics are really beautiful, it's amazing how they can convey so much in just one line.
