I just started listening to In the Heights now and I'm so grateful for your videos!!!! I really need subtitles (I'm hard of hearing) and I'm glad you provide translations and absolutely HILARIOUS commentary. Thank you so much!!!!
Theo G. There’s a recording of a different production online that you can watch! And Lin is most definitely a genius, haha. Also, thank you again! My username is actually somewhat of a nickname for me (though it’s usually only used by family).
I imagine that the line about his fame is a joke that doubles back. "My name is Usnavi and you probably never heard my name." Can be interpreted to mean either he's not famous or that you've never heard the name "Usnavi" before because his parents made it up. Then the next line he says he's not famous and if you took the other meaning, you realize he meant something else, then wonder which he really meant. It's a bit of wordplay that toys with your expectations.
1. Ugh I everything is a Hamilton reference to me(legacy, Caribbean, FOLKS PASSED ON) 2. Lin already wrote TWO musicals about Caribbean orphans. And he played BOTH of them
I must thank you for forever making me unable to sing the "You must take the A-Train" line cause that image always appears when I begin singing it and I burst out laughing
this is the best lyrics video i’ve ever seen, no cap. you have the lyrics, who’s saying it, translations and clarifications, but also enough editing so if you’re watching it to memorize, it’s fun to watch. amazing. this needs more views.
Haha, there have been so many times I’ve wished I could go back and change what I wrote in these videos. I’ve seen “fo” everywhere after I made this. Thank you for pointing it out though! I forgot to make a comment about it myself (oops).
I can't wait for the movie to come out, I'm so excited! This is one of my favorite musicals, I love the songs and the story and just everything about it! Thanks for the commentary, it makes me laugh!
@@Monotail_Razuin I agree! I loved it! I wish there was an intermission because I had to go to the bathroom during Blackout (one of my favorite songs). Although, non-theatre nerds would probably be annoyed.
You uploaded at the right time for me, I was beginning to fall in love with this masterpiece and u guided me... without this, I wouldn't be as this much in love with In the heights or even Theatre itself! Idk if you'll see this but thnx rlly
I'M GOING TO LIVE IN WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NEW YORK SO THANKS TO AND LIN, AND EVERYONE IN THE SHOW FOR THE LESSONS ON WHAT TO EXPECT! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!
1:46 I thought north of 96th street represents the poorer districts, more on the edge of the city. I go to Columbia(mainly 116th-125th st) and used to live on 90th St. I feel like the rich part of the upper west is from Columbus Circle(58st) up to 86th st.
Pretty sure when he says never been north of 96th st he's literally talking about w 96th st as in they've never left the upper west side. I knew someone from Manhattan that had never been out of his neighborhood basically and it used to be a saying where you'd get jumped for going into the wrong neighborhood
I know I will not be able to not sing along when I go to watch the Movie, so I'm being sure I will sing the songs correctly! 🤩💙 ITH movie will be amazing, I can't wait!
If anybody knows “America” from West Side Story.... the start of this song always makes me think I’m listening to it Also whenever I listen to “Inutil” the beginning says “this isn’t happening” and it always makes me think of the song from Wicked, “The Wizard and I” when Elphaba says “did that really just happen?”
yea so im like late, but i think when he says "crack of dawn" and the references to the time of day with vocabulary of light, it counts as references to light right?? idk maybe
Thank you to everyone who commented - I now know the sound is “fo” and not “awgh”
Sorry about that!
@Paigeycita Well, you did say it in the video
Fo is just a sound Hispanics make that means the same as ew.
IT'S ALL GOOD
“Abuela means grandma you uncultured swines” is a mood.
Note: piragua guy is iconic
RIGHT
Wait until you watch Piragua Song...
*is very determined to learn this whole song*
I wish you the best of luck! Tip: It's even more fun to sing (and memorize!) with friends. :)

10/10 would watch again

“Shit where did Sonny go”
Sorry- ima just die of laughter now
I get chills everytime at "My family came from miles away!"
1:13 He says "fo' " which is just a sound of disgust, used when you smell something bad. We use it in a lot of Hispanic countries tbh
"fo" for us is similar to"Ugh" for them hahahh
i love how he said “we all non-stopping” bc that’s one of my favorite hamilton songs
This is my favourite song of the musical. Because it is so diverse and references almost every other song.
by “reports of my fame are greatly exaggerated” he could mean that he’s locally famous instead of that no one knows him
i just thought he was being sarcastic-
Definitely the best lyrics ever
The sound he makes in 1:12 is "Fo" it's a piertorican/dominican "ew"
Haha, there have been so many times I’ve wished I could go back and change what I wrote in these videos. I’ve seen “fo” everywhere after I made this. Thank you for pointing it out though! I forgot to make a comment about it myself (oops).
In Russian, that sound would be “Fu!” like FOOD without the d. Foo-

Interestingly since you're tracking light references most of the light references are stage directions that actually change the lighting

I was surprised when I heard Lins voice I was like "Get outta here Hamilton, this isn't your story!"
Listen to this, then go listen to the first song of Hamilton. Is it just me, or has Lin's voice gotten crisper over the years?
Lin is such a good rapper and writer😍
yo my first language is spanish and they sound like natives 0_o
You can thank Lin and Quiara for that :)
