Thanks for a great, simple-to-understand video. I notice that you reply to the queries posted in the comments - most content providers don't - so well done on doing so - in my book that gives you two 👍👍
Fantastic video! I’ve just ordered one to take away on our motorhome trips. We have a 230v socket on the outside of our van, I am wondering whether plugging the mini into that would be a concern in bad weather. Not sure if the plug that comes with the mini is suitable for outside use, or whether it is better routed to a plug socket within the van
Not that I know of I am afraid. You could try some sort of waterproofing on the original plug, but I think I would always be worried about if it was me. 230v and water don’t play nicely.
@ yeah, that’s what I’m worried about as well. I suppose I could route the cable through a window, if it is thin enough. Seems a shame to only use it in the day and in good weather 😃
I had one of those power jumpers but it ran too low to recharge - which is a shame. Now I just use the 100W USB Option although I also have 200ah of Renogy Lifep04 Batteries that are linked together and have a 12v socket for when I am mobile. Mini ran for 10 days straight and I used 40% of the power bank
If you are hard wiring into a campervan or motorhome and want something more reliable and safe than a cheap chinese buck converter then Victron do a prodiuct. Victron Orion-Tr 12/24-5 Isolated DC-DC Converter. Its a 12-24V converter @ 5A for around £57
Hi the link is in the description on the mounting video here. Starlink Mini - Ways to Mount! - Campervan Motorhome RV Car th-cam.com/video/NZhCBUcfZXw/w-d-xo.html
Great video. Just starting out on my mini journey!! I have a ryobi 36v battery but cannot locate an adapter for it. How did you make yours please? Video would be great inclusion! Cheers
@michaelr9292 Sorry didn’t see your earlier comment. I just used 2 crimped spade connectors and pushed them in to the connections on the battery, before covering them and the battery physical connection in Polymorph. Then once the polymorph had set slid the two apart.
I just received the usb c charge cable and the cigarette plug and sadly it's not working. Starlink doesn't want to connect. When I plug in back in the wall with the regular plug it works fine :(
Hi, thanks for the nice video. I am planning to purchase the starlink mini. My camper has multiple 12v/120W sockets, can I use them? I would like to be able to use the 15 meter cable if the camper is under the trees, for example, and the mini has to be placed a bit further away. Which components from your video do I need in my case? Thanks in advance. Greetings from the Netherlands. Lex Haverkamp
Hi, if you are looking to use the 15 meter cable supplied you will need the input voltage to be higher than 12 volts. You have 2 options really: Power a 12v volt to 24 volt converter from your 12-volt socket - with a 5521 socket on the 24v out for the 15m lead to plug into. -12v-24 volt converter amzn.to/3AWEZl7 -5521 Plugs and Sockets amzn.to/3XlgAx5 Use a USB-C 12 Volt adapter from your 12v socket, USB-C to 20v lead, and 5521 couple to plug the 15m lead into: -12v to USB-C Car adapter amzn.to/4dUXdBR -USB-C - 20 Volt lead 5521 amzn.to/3XgsOa8 -5521 Plug Coupler amzn.to/3TgZ63O As the USB-C approach also gives you the option to power from other USB-C sources should you want to - that would be my choice.
Hi thanks for your very informative video👍. I have purchased the INIU 65w battery bank, can can you tell me is it OK to charge it from an Apple "87 Watt Charger" ? Thanks, Im a complete newby at all this. Cheers Dave.
I power my starlink mini from my 36v stihl batteries from my chainsaw they are 335 watt hour capacity so I get about 12 hours runtime! When I am home( offgrid) in power it directly from my 48 v 25kwh lithium battery bank ..
I bought Ugreen socket and the USB cable from the links. Unfortunately its very intermittent. Sometimes mini shuts down and restarts loosing connection and searching satellites again and again. I dont get why. Maybe the Ugreen adaptor i have is faulty. Sometimes it lasts a few hours without restarts. There is long run from my batter to the 12v socket but the Ugreen should up it to 20v so im not sure what's happening.
Good spot - I meant to mention in the video (but clearly forgot) that ours is a few years old and I couldn't find the same model available. So I have linked to one that shows as having a 15v 10 amp outlet. I'll update the in the video description too.
The power reading on these are likely biased unless you left the unit off for a considerable time between tests, I imagine all power solutions are 36 to 37 watts once the unit has already warmed up and all will require the same wattage if its a completely cold start.
Hi, yep for comparison we used a cold startup with a few hours between boots as that was more reproducible and consistent, without too many other factors influencing it. As you can see the dish was also always inside so the number of sats actually visible (none) was always the same.
Finally found a video that helps my small brain understand how I need to power the mini in our campervan … thank you. :-)
So glad it’s helpful! Thanks for the thanks! ☺️

Thanks! So glad it was helpful!
I try my best to reply to everyone as I really appreciate people taking the time to watch and comment.
Great vid mate!
Very informative thank you 🙏
outstanding informative video thanks lots of powering options
Thanks. Very helpful.
Starlink says PD100 is required but you were able to use it without issues with PD65?
Yep we had no issues. PD100 may well be needed to cover the requirement for the Snowmelt though.

Glad it’s useful!
The supplied plug isn’t watertight so I wouldn’t suggest using it where it’s exposed to the elements.
Thank you! Is there a water tight equivalent that can be used instead of the supplied plug at all?
Not that I know of I am afraid.
You could try some sort of waterproofing on the original plug, but I think I would always be worried about if it was me. 230v and water don’t play nicely.

The cable is pretty thin as because it is a higher voltage it only needs thin cable, we run it out the drivers door.
Maybe add sections?

Hi Coleman, can you explain how you connect the Starlink mini to the Orion please. Cheers
Hi there.
Thanks for this. You mentioned you were adding the link in for the free 3D Print black tripod adapter but I can’t see it?

Home depot , Amazon is your best friend for what you looking for
Very true but I was keen to see how you made yours with the polymorph plastic. Can you show that? Cheers

Fantastic. Never used polymorph putty before so have just ordered and keen to try it out ! Thanks again
guys any recommendation on the best car output for starlink mini cables
We use the USB-C lead and USB-C car adapter linked in the description.
I just received the usb c charge cable and the cigarette plug and sadly it's not working. Starlink doesn't want to connect. When I plug in back in the wall with the regular plug it works fine :(
Is it the exact ones in the links?
If so must be something faulty as ours work perfectly.

Use a USB-C 12 Volt adapter from your 12v socket, USB-C to 20v lead, and 5521 couple to plug the 15m lead into:
-12v to USB-C Car adapter amzn.to/4dUXdBR
-USB-C - 20 Volt lead 5521 amzn.to/3XgsOa8
-5521 Plug Coupler amzn.to/3TgZ63O
As the USB-C approach also gives you the option to power from other USB-C sources should you want to - that would be my choice.
is there any poe splitter for starlink mini to use just one cable for data and power?
Starlink Mini does not support POE.
www.starlink.com/support/article/6ee2d80c-cb4a-3339-9a31-2090666bf634?helpCenter=true
No. Neither Starlink receivers (mini or standard) accept POE.

Hi, glad it was helpful. I would expect the Charger to be fine.

Ugreen also does the buzzing noise when running mini, is it normal?
I think your link for the jump starter is pointing to the wrong product (?)

@@ExploreVanUK that’s great, thank you!
Can you use it with a 12v, 12Amp hour battery? It's not 20 volts but most batteries are 12 v.
Yes but you’ll need to use a short lead so the voltage doesn’t drop too low.
The power reading on these are likely biased unless you left the unit off for a considerable time between tests, I imagine all power solutions are 36 to 37 watts once the unit has already warmed up and all will require the same wattage if its a completely cold start.
