I had my first pair of bluebirds and 2 successful broods last year. My pair is back and come daily trying to decide which house they are going to pick 🥰. What a wonderful soul this man was 😇

What I see is a wonderful, dear man giving of himself (unselfishly) and getting so much from the bluebirds. He is such a blessing and he gets blessed in return. What a man!

I loved this video. This man has done so much for bluebirds. I wouldn't be able to walk up a hill and he's much older than I am. A wonderful story.

Thank You, Al!!! We as humans cannot thank you enough for your quest and efforts to save the bluebirds. If only more of us could be a little more like you... We feed wild birds in 3 locations twice daily and have for twenty-two years. We love them so and do all we can to help. But this is so beyond what most people would or could do, and you have really saved this species- so we are forever grateful- here's to those who can carry on in Al's place, too!!! xoxoxoxo~Robin (birdwoman ;)

Love the compassion and commitment of this guy.I just moved to Kentucky and have seen lots of beautiful Eastern Bluebirds (this is the first time I ever saw one,I lived in Tucson Arizona for 61 years)among 23 other types of birds and when I see all of the Cardinals everyday I think of Gods love for us and when I see the Bluebirds I think of how my love and devotion for Him will always bring me peace. I think I will start building Bluebird nesting boxes too, he has inspired me! Thanks for the great video.

What a wonderful life Al had, a life he made for himself. I read envy is a good thing if the thing you envy is honourable and worthy. In that regard I envy the life Al chose to live and the service he offered. There is no greater wealth or treasure a man or woman can archive then what Al had, in my value system.

We have blue birds and about 4 boxes we can see from our porch. We watch them every spring come and go. We check their progress and marvel at the devotion and energy of the parents with the female doing most of the work. After seeing this video I hope to add more nest boxes on the property. It was a lovely video and showed how love comes in different sizes and temperaments with devotion separating the best from all the others. I am 76 and quite active on our property to make it more natural for all the flora and fauna we have in South Carolina. I would like to live as long as the birdman and still be active and not waste away as he describes folks that retire and just sit.

Central Ohio resident here (North Columbus). We have bluebirds here in the suburbs. Even 5 years ago, that was not the case. They are, for my money, the most beautiful bird in the country, and I'm thrilled whenever I hear them singing.

Thank you AL for all you have done! For the first year we here in New Brunswick Canada (Miramichi) have a beautiful bluebird pair nesting in birdhouses that swallows have been nesting in for years. They actually fought (in mid air) with the swallows and took over the nest! I was a bit sad to see the swallows lose the battle but those bluebirds ARE a beautiful bird. And, the swallows have plenty of nesting places in the nearby bird sanctuary (boxes set up by the society).

I've been making Bluebird houses for about three years now. I have been disappointed that more people are not knowledgeable about the Spirit within the family of Bluebirds. After watching a couple of birdhouses I could see through my home windows, I've come to respect their ways and survival. Thanks to this video, I am thinking seriously of starting some "trails" of my own.

Would also like to comment that I live in southern Idaho and would love to join Al in checking the boxes each summer! I'm a newbie birder but on my apartment balcony for a few years now, I feed house finches, eurasian collared doves, dark-eyed juncos, a female northern flicker (who this past winter came by once in a while for water and whole peanuts), goldfinches, sparrows, and a family of 5 or 6 crows (with 3 noisy juveniles!) for whom I toss whole peanuts down onto the lawn every morning), and in the adjacent crabapple tree I love to watch the occasional cedar waxwing and the robins in late winter and spring. This past winter I started using the eBird by Cornell app because I had so many new visitors. Love birds so much! ❤ My daughter just laughs at my "crazy bird lady" ways. I've never actually been out intentionally birding alone or with a group but would love to find a group nearby.

My Grandfather Big Roy was alot like your Dad .Its amazing what these men could do by themselves. He loved his dogs and working .My Grandmother was the bird lover but mostly Red Cardinals .
My Grandfather bought some land out in the country and in the winter he did firewood and in the summer fresh vegetable gardening before and after retirement.
When I lived in their old home I fed dozens of cardinals. Now at my new place I have dozens of bluebirds about half the year because I put up 2 boxes and feed them lots of meal worms. I think when I retire I'll do some wood , vegetables and bluebirds.

I’ve always had bluebird boxes. I keep 8 or 9 active boxes. I was mounting 6 boxes on power poles behind a shopping center I worked at, and there were bluebirds MOVING IN before I finished with the last one. Other birds will move in sometimes, but that’s all right, next time maybe a bluebird couple will nest in the box. and they nest (in this area) several times in one season. it’s very interesting and I’ll always do it. I am glad to help them.

That box that fell on the ground wouldn’t have lasted an hour in my area of Texas before the fire ants would’ve found and killed them. I used to dove hunt and if you didn’t find your downed dove fast enough the fire ants would be all over it.
