    Two ‘spitsers’ frontriders and one leader in front of the ambulance. Their speed is insane! Other policeunits in the Netherlands uses Audi A8 as leader, but not in The Hague. In Rotterdam they block the complete route in the citycenter, with on every corner a policeman. But that will take some time to organize, so in The Hague they use their motorcops. The best!!!

    In this video you can see clearly how they clear the route for the ambulance. Leapfrogging over each other and blocking one intersection after the other so the ambulance does not have to brake or accelerate which can be bad for the patient. The goal is to provide a ride as comfortable as possible. You see two motorbikes but in fact there are three, the third - the commander - rides a few yards in front of the ambulance and he is informed by the two bikes ahead about traffic conditions, which lane to take, bumps and obstacles and such. The driver of the ambulance listens to the police radio as well. As you can see, it it a very smooth and safe ride. These officers follow an intensive training before they are qualified to do these - sometimes high speed - escorts.

    This particular video shows a 9.5km route from Nieuwe Parklaan, Scheveningen, to Haga hospital in Den Haag, done in 13 minutes. An average speed of about 44km/h doesn't seem all that fast, until you're sick and you have to go half way through town, through traffic, traffic lights etc. No, this is definitely quick.

      Normally this would take anywhere from 19 minutes or longer averaging 25 ~ 28 km/h. so that is an increased average speed of 56%!! and that is a lot. I believe most of these roads have a 50 km/h speed limit, to average 44 including all intersections is insanely quick

    The Hague is the residence of government, parliament, and royalty. They are extremely trained, not only for ambulance, but also motorcades for international (and local) dignitaries in fast and safe transport. It's their daily job. And even if the emergency of an ambulance isn't extreme, it is a good training to practice their skills and coordination, so when it really matters they can safe lives.
    And yes, the Netherlands are green, due to a little bit of rain every day, we can live in a park like environment without much investment.
    Forest fires are rare and if they usually happen on heath areas, but by far not on US scale. Trees provide shade in summer and drop their leaves in autumn so the winter sun gets through. And in spring they bring joy and life! We do not have poisonous insects or animals so a tree is a blessing not a source of bio hazard. They house a lot of birds, and we like them as well.
    Our biggest forest is along highways where you cannot built because of air pollution, where trees filter the air from small dust and reduce the noise. During a trip you often see falcons, hawks and even eagles sitting on a high position to hunt for prey.

    • @codex4046
      @codex4046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main reason the Netherlands is green compared to the US is because our roads are safer. In thr US if a car driver drives into a tree or house people say that the tree or house shouldn't have been there. When there are trees they will be actively removed to decrease accidents against those trees.

    • @caelorum
      @caelorum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@codex4046 It is also very expensive to have trees. They need maintenance and the leafs need to be cleared regularly. With the amount of roads the US has and its frankly abysmal budget per meter of road there's just not enough money. They hardly have enough to maintain the road surface let alone pay the upkeep for greenery.

    About the trees, they give shade, they break the wind, and they shield you somewhat from the rain :)
    Its nice when Cycling.
    Also, watching these video's i realize that we do have a lot of awesome drivers in the netherlands.
    During driving lessons it's taught first to listen to people managing traffic, then to traffic lights and lastly to signs & road markings.
    I think that's why so many people know what to do when a police agent just stops in an intersection and raises their hand.

      The cop only motioned for them to stop once very shortly (almost with a flat hand too) and then gave the go ahead sign to the cars in roughly the same direction. He should have been clearer and would have repeated his stop sign to those children if he was in a better position or had more time.

    • @mrpddnos
      @mrpddnos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@InWeCome I agree. This wasn’t a “stupid girl” situation. This was a girl who was getting mixed signals (from her point of view). In the less than 2 seconds (1 of which the girl who crossed wasn’t even looking at him) he waved them back. In that shirt amount of time you don’t have time to realize what the movement actually means. You have to see which way he holds his hand (the back of the hand towards you would mean cross the road, the back of the hand away from you would mean move back). In that very short time, it’s understandable that these kids(!!!) didn’t fully understand what he was trying to say.
      People seem to forget that children don’t have the ability to think rationally in the same way as adults do. Their brains haven’t fully developed yet. An adult would have realized that there is a very good reason he was standing there, sirens screaming, making hasty gestures towards them. And that it probably meant they shouldn’t cross. These kids who seem no older than 12-14 don’t have that ability yet, or at least not fully formed yet.
      Now, that doesn’t mean the cop himself is to blame either. He simply didn’t have enough time to make a clear signal to the girls and check if they had understood it. There were already cars coming which needed to keep moving plus the other cop was nearing fast.
      It’s just an unfortunate series of events. And hopefully the girls have learned something from the event and now know what to do if they are faced with a similar situation.

It’s the same thing as telling a kid to stop doing something because they’ll hurt themselves, to only seconds or minutes later find them having hurt themselves with that exact thing you told them not to do.

    Trees make places so much more livable even if it's a big city with many people, all that green makes people comfortable. I find many american streets very unnatural with their lack of sidewalks, trees and lawns reaching the houses yet no frontyard full of purely decorative plants. Our frontyards are very small and people are putting a lot of stone in these days but you don't usually have to mow it and seeing a house without it is like it was newly build and looks so exposed.
    Of course the kid on a bike was a teenager, they often mistake signs and traffic safety. That's why i think it's a bad idea to let 16 year olds drive already.

      @@kas-lw7xz I don't even get out much but I've been a teen and seen plenty of near misses. This is teamwork, the commander in front of the ambulance directs where the 'spitsen' have to go, and communicates with headquarter to get a route with the least obstacles and traffic jams. They know their region very well.
      Getting into another city, the headquarter changes to get to most recent information.

  • @mrpddnos
    @mrpddnos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Before you start yelling and screaming at the people at 8:14, they are school kids, in a part of the city that doesn’t have so many of these escorts. This might very well be the very first time these 10/14 year old girls (they can’t be much older than that) have had to deal with this. Combine that with the screaming sirens, whistle blowing and hand gestures going from “keep going” (for the cars) and the very short waving motion (from their viewpoint) the cop did towards the girls (waving usually means move, instead of stop) and you have understandable confusion. And the hand signal the cop gave the girls was less than 2 seconds, while the girl who crossed the street wasn’t looking at the cop. Combine that with the fact that rational thinking is inhibited in children and not fully developed until 18-25, and you can’t fully blame the girls.
    An adult in that position might have realized what was going on. Kids need a different tactic, one the cop simply doesn’t have time for.
    In the comments of the original video people were going off on these kids in such a cruel way. But people need to realize that kids make stupid decisions not because they are stupid, but because the ability to realize the consequences of their actions hasn’t fully developed yet.
    Oh, and he can shout “stop” all he wants, you can’t hear it over the screaming siren. We can hear it because the microphone is way closer to his face. Try it yourself. Have someone go into a room, let them crank the volume of a siren up to 10 and have them shout something to you. You either won’t hear it or can’t make out what they are saying.

    • @mrpddnos
      @mrpddnos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rubenjanssen1672 dat betwist ik ook zeker niet. Maar, kijk nog eens goed naar de video.
      1: het is een kind van schoolkind leeftijd.
      2: Het gebaar dat hij naar de kinderen maakt is minder dan 2 seconden lang en compleet onduidelijk (een zwaaiend gebaar met bijna platte hand? Ik zou ook niet weten wat hij daarmee bedoeld aangezien dit GEEN officieel gebaar is, in ieder geval niet een die ik als verkeersregelaar geleerd heb te geven).
      3. Kinderen hebben niet de volledig ontwikkelde hersencapaciteit zoals wij volwassenen deze wel hebben. Waar wij rationeel zouden kunnen denken “in deze situatie zal hij vast bedoelen dat ik moet stoppen” kunnen kinderen niet op deze manier denken. Die zien een vaag gebaar dat misschien zou kunnen betekenen dat ze mogen oversteken, en dat is wat ze dan ook doen. Je kan daarin duidelijk het verschil in leeftijd zien tussen het meisje dat overstak en het oudere meisje dat bleef staan.
      Daar komt nog eens bij dat het voor ons, vanuit de luie stoel, wel heel makkelijk is met zo veel commentaar of dit KIND heen te vallen. Wij hebben alle tijd om rustig te beoordelen wat de agent nou eigenlijk bedoeld. Als het moet kunnen we ook wel 10 keer de video terug spoelen en het gebaar op nieuw bekijken. De meisjes zijn wat, 20/30 meter van de agent af? Misschien nog wel meer. Kijken uit de meest ongunstige hoek op de hand signalen van de agent (hij staat immers zo opgesteld dat hij de perfecte kijkhoek voor de automobilisten heeft en daardoor niet bepaald ideaal staat voor de fietsers). Die meisjes kijken bijna recht op de puntjes van zijn vingers. Dat maakt het beoordelen van het gebaar er in die minder dan 2 seconden niet makkelijker op.
      Dit betekent niet dat ik vindt dat de agent hier iets fout doet. Ook hij heeft slecht 5 a 6 seconden om meerdere tekens direct op elkaar volgend te geven (oprij teken aan de auto’s, stopteken aan de meisjes en direct weer het volgende teken). Hij heeft de beste plek gekozen om te gaan staan voor het geven van de belangrijkste tekens voor hij weer verder moet vliegen naar de volgende plek. Dit is slechts een samenloop van omstandigheden die er voor zorgt dat dit meisje zich uit een benarde situatie moest redden. En het belangrijkste? Ze heeft een goede les geleerd voor wanneer ze weer in een soortgelijke situatie beland.

    That young girl on the bike who was still crossing didn't understand what she was expected to do and I think the police should bear in mind that teenagers are not yet having their brain fully developed to always understand what is going on and they are much less able to make right decisions on unexpected situations in traffic.This shows how everybody, included the police, should always keep in mind to be prepared for children and teenagers on bikes on the road.

      That “dumb girl” was a child of 10-12 years old. If you knew anything at all about children you would have known that kids simply don’t have the brain development yet to realize that. Combine that with the fact that the cop gave a vague hand signal which could mean two opposite things (cross the street or stop) and rational thought being needed to realize which one was meant (which kids that age are incapable of), and you have a situation the girl can’t be blamed for.
