  • Hello Friends - this video is a demonstration of the "Transient Life Cycle" concept discussed in Ep. 135 of the Recording Lounge Podcast entitled "The Transient Life Cycle." Hopefully it gives you a better visual aid in understanding how compression and saturation affect your transients.

This is one of the few channels on youtube, which delivers a huge amount of professional "know-how" in every single video. Keep up your good work!

This is the single most important mixing video in the history of TH-cam.

This is the single topic most people, especially home studio guys and beginners need to get their heads around, and it's never discussed. Your videos on it are the best. This is the exact reason I have 500 racks full of HRK saturation units and colour modules, and Looptrotter units. Based on your previous videos and my own testing, I find slow attack compression into saturation works out best if it want both more punch and more RMS.

Agreed! I should have said in the video that sat > compression versus compression > sat produce similar results around the same idea. Just different flavors. I like and use both depending on what the source is, and whatever my mood is that day. Haha.

SoundRadix Drum Leveler does wonders for this type of job! It can automatically adjust the level of every hits in a super transparent way.

Would be interesting to hear you talk about this in context with your previous video "Compression or Saturation - Which Comes First?", like when would you do Sat>Compressor vs Compressor>Sat

i use a clipper to reduce those powerful transients rather than a saturator, but i guess its doing the same thing.
